It's beyond obvious the police departments/Donald Trump/racists are going to take up arms against the protestors. Why shouldn't the protestors defend themselves?

Respectfully, they're already brutally attacking, maiming, and killing people. They seem okay with people with rocket launchers and AR-15s getting in their face.
The fact that the president is trying to gaslight people into such a space is good enough reason alone for people not to do this.

The reality is that armed civilians hold no candle to the firepower of the powers that be. Change has to come from other ways.

How do you see that playing out. I literally watched a video of a white guy with his own assault rifle and tactical vest talking to cops while moving toward a crowd in a state where open carry is illegal.
You can't be for gun control and then want protesters to take guns to political rallies. It's just antithetical to the movement and it would end very poorly.
Still I know there are some people that advocate for that kind of movement. I think that it would be disastrous and you'd see peaceful rallies end in far more carnage and bloodshed.

Because how many innocent protesters would get killed because some idiot starts to shoot back at the cops. You think the cops are going to carefully line up their shot? They are just going to open up fire.
They'd essentially be declaring war against the US military. A war would be the last thing the protesters want. I'm actually more scared of some racist white supremacist dumbasses being suicidal enough to pretend to be a protester and fire on a cop to blame it on the BLM movement.

The moment protestors start shooting at police is the moment the public allows hardline tactics against them. Many people are largely supportive of the protests (not the looting). Actual shootings start and people will want this over fast. As many protestors as there are, there are not enough for that scenario by far.

They already allow it, someone already die. Individuals in the public who already condone the violent nature of the police don't give a shit if they use said violence to maim or kill protesters. It's the American way.

As of right now, the national guard is in Minneapolis as a symbol. They are there to say that there could always be MORE force if you don't abide by the rules and start getting too combative. And please believe, if Americans start shooting the American Military with live rounds, it will be an ugly, mismatched game that is brutal and relatively quick. There is not a single weapon you can get as a civilian that won't stop you from getting obliterated. I know that you're just making a thread topic hypothetical, but it really is a silly question.
