Meanwhile, the goblin slayer defense force found a new old argument:

Accuse the critic.

The rape scenes are called fetishistic and sexualized? Clearly, the critic must be the evil one because they were aroused by them!

These dudes just can't seem to understand what "sexualized" even means, but they sure are convinced it makes criticism invalid. Anime fans gotta anime fan, I guess.

What I don't get is that even if you take away the rape scenes...the anime still isn't that good? Like, even in terms of heroic badass anime, there's still a bunch of better options? Hell, Overlord is better and that also has pretty poor taste scenes and that's still pretty recent. Naryoko-San and Record of Lodless War are better animes based off of a western RPG. Like, everything that people praise about this anime...I can find better examples within the last two years? What is so special about this anime that gets anime fans so desperate to defend it?

Nioh version is awesome too
Yeah I wish she actually had a bigger part in the game, absolutely love her design.

All the anime talk in this thread has me completely lost. Used to be a big anime fan back in the 90's with things like Guyver, Dominion tank police etc and while I still like the odd Ghibli film my interest in most modern anime has just vanished. I've never even heard of the Goblin show until this thread. I am very out of touch it seems....

Come on people. The people that defend any type of sexual assault and sexy dressed minors are more often than not adults. Not just incels or otakus but adults that could be in relationships or have families. Adults that claim to be liberals. Adults that can function in society or are part of communities. And all of them unite to defend "creative freedom".

Anyone here playing Magic the Gathering? There are various female warriors wearing really cool looking armor, and from the many cards I've seen so far, they aren't sexualized. For one here's a Conquistador Vampire card
Image.ashx

Though I dunno if that's a proper armor, more like regal 16th century Spanish clothing, but you get the idea. Here's another card

Well, there is one thing that distinguishes it from these other anime.

Sexualized rape.

Totally can't be it, though.

MTG has a couple really neat designs and choices lately!

Well, i ended up hating it, but since it managed to hook me at first i guess i can rationalize it

Let's see... I dunno if there's any significant differences between the anime and the manga but, at the start, leaving rape aside, it has some "saving graces"

It's gorey and violent in a realistic way (Again, i'm leaving rape, and the violence it includes, aside) (I'm also leaving magic and whatnot aside too) Almost crude. That's rare to see today.

The protagonist, Goblin Slayer, feels interesting and misterious, he's also not an overpowered mofo, he wears weak and wear down equipment and struggles agaisn't anything bigger than a goblin.

Is not an isekai.

It all falls apart very quickly though, and becomes an edgy manga for edgyness sake where the shock value has lost its impact too fast and even becomes annoying, and the story advances too slowly.

It's kind of sad that even putting pants on her still results in a ridiculously sexualized design with the skin-tight chest pockets and g-string strap showing.

Genuinely thought the conversation was about Berserk while scrolling up through messages. People rave about it but it's kind of hard to take seriously considering what its most famous scene is and how it's depicted.

I mean Berserk does have pretty strong storytelling in its Golden Age arc and at least the character design and behavior feel in line with the world whereas Goblin Slayer has basically stereotypical comedy isekai characters get brutally killed and raped. It legit does not make sense how those characters in the first episode behave when, as the episode makes sure to tell, Goblins have been kidnapping and raping for a long time. It's drastically more gratuitous to Berserk because of all that.

Now you'll only hear me praise the 1997 TV adaptation of Berserk which features that arc. That has even trimmed some of the superfluous "monster of the week"-ish fight and makes it just the better. The Eclipse event is certainly disturbing and I'm not sure what to think of Casca's rape by Griffith, but the Eclipse also is a gruesome climax that had a lot of built up, after all.

The content that follows afterward in the manga, however, just gets progressively worse. Well paced storytelling takes a backseat to the monster of the week format. Torture and rape get featured so prominently that I certainly regard a lot of it as torture/rape porn at that point. Comedic relief characters and small little wizard girls join the party, which makes the argument I used above, about the character design etc. fitting the world, much weaker and there's even some romance in that. Oh and Casca, who I mostly deemed a pretty damn good character up until the Eclipse stays heavily mentally impaired for eternity.

I don't think the Golden Age arc, or at least its 1997 anime adaptation, should ever be put anywhere next to the instant-garbage that is Goblin Slayer. Comparisons to what the manga deteriorate into, however, seem completely apt.

Magic has been really good, with a few missteps, for a while now. Even a character like Liliana, usually depicted in a low cut corset or some sort of bra, is more tolerable when she's one of many diverse designs for women in the game and you get great designs like Saheeli

And for Liliana it's at least sorta fits the character. I'm more annoyed by stuff like the boob plate of Chandra and Elspeth.

User Banned (1 Month): Thread whining, deflecting from topic at hand, prolonged derail
Since there's a thread now where people propose that some games portray sexualized male characters to appeal to the women and gay audience, I think the point of this thread is not valid anymore. Either people will recognize the right to show both kinds of sexuality, or none. Otherwise, in my opinion, it's pure hypocrisy.

Goblin Slayer has nothing to do with Isekai. The designs that you're talking about are common ones for fantasy series, which is what generally a isekai will employ for it's alternate world with influences of the fantasy elements like Dragon Quest and other medieval series.

Again, what? The point of a thread pointing out the myriad, actual examples of sexualized women is no longer valid because someone made a thread about theorethical sexualized men?

The fuck are you on?

Anyhow, I came here to point out the meltdowns about Sony's apparent new policy regarding content in Japanese games, which I consider a net win.

Strangest timeline, innit? In short there'll be more sexualized women on Nintendo's console than Sony's.

Yeah, well, you could argue that it's not the same person that created both threads. I was merely saying that it's strange the different receptions to the idea of portraying sexualized women in games (which, in my opinion, is frankly ok) and sexualized men (which I don't mind too).

You really think it's strange that a thing that happens 10.000 times, in games and in society, has a different reception than one that happens 10 times.
Really.
As in, you can't understand why anyone would react differently to the sexualization of the one gender that is routinely objectified, sexualized and dehumanized by society.

Are you the kind of person that points out that "white lives matter too"?

Women experience a "death by a thousand cuts" when it comes to sexualization. Just because men get sexualized a few times doesn't suddenly make it equal. The 999th cut is worse than the 5th.

The "meltdown" have nothing to do with what you think of but the absurd policy of two regulations (one being in english) for companies to be able to launch a game in PS4 in Japan which is an added cost. That's terrible and at best will only make those companies go to other platforms if they don't want to follow it, not make those games disappear.

One person makes a thread asking if there is a market for sexualized designs of male characters so a thread criticizing the thousands of female characters that are inappropriately dressed unlike their male counterparts is invalid

What

Except that's not true and people are complaining about the "censorship" as well. From the OP:
これでもし新作ニーア作ったとしてもゲンシュタルトみたいにオッさんが主人公じゃないとPSには出せないな
"I guess this means the next Nier will have to have an old man protagonist like in Gestalt or they won't be able to release it on PS"

ペアレンタルコントロール機能つけて大人向けは無規制にしろよ
"Just put parental controls on and don't restrict games intended for adults."

おーい ゴキブリは硬派だから女キャラは全員ブサイクでもいいってさー性欲関係ないってw
"Hey! Roaches are tough. So,they are cool to have all of their female characters be so plain and ugly. Not like it has anything to do with any urges they have. lulz"

From the topic's first page alone:
y'all retarded wanting games you're not even gonna play to be censored so much.

Cruelty like in Mortal Kombat, or dehumanizing killing in general is still ok and not subject to censorship? The hypocrisy is ridiculous.

People are defending Sony because they don't want creepy anime games on their platform? You are not forced to buy these games.

Should I go on?

And for the record, the thread was closed precisely because there was no actual confirmation that Japanese games needed to pass English certification.

No, I'm not saying that men and women are suffering the same things in society. At least not in this subject.

But how can people think they are fighting for equality when all they want is to objectify men?

Two wrong things don't make a right one. Besides, there's some hipocrisy in this discussion because the majority of men that militate for non-sexualized women in games are the ones that would be attracted for a woman that goes out in tiny shorts, and they are the ones that like things like pornography, etc.

It's a human natural thing to feel sexually attracted by certain kinds of things in women, and even if people try to cover it up, it's not going to change that much.

I am going to repeat what I said in another thread: you shouldn't demonize nature. It's ok to point out some fan services here and there (they are bad depending on the way it is shown), but nothing will be solved by making women characters that dress in a composed way while making male characters that are objectified. You're just changing the target of the sexual objectification, nothing more.

And yeah, every human life matters, although I do recognize black people have suffered a lot throughout human history.

Well, I don't think it's a matter of making it equal. If objectification is wrong, then it is wrong no matter the target.

It's okay to have some eye-candy here and there, and that topic you mention is a discussion on whether it would work to have a AAA game with eye-candy for women and homossexual men. The problem that is being discussed here is that the rampant amount of sexualized female characters in the gaming industry is a reflection of how society objectify women in real life.

I personally think sexual objectification is okay in small doses, but for women it's almost everywhere to the point our real lives are affected by it. Men aren't even to the "small doses".
