SOON...
Games Workshop do seem to be making more of an effort to make more good female models.

I think this speaks more to how low the bar is honestly.

I wouldn't tell anyone they should be happy with it but at first glance at least they've stopped the descent into softcore porn. I guess they can squeeze that market dry with Heroes and leave the main series to have a broader appeal.

Yay?

Not gonna lie, that premise seems like the most boring way to make a Fire Emblem game. But hey, medieval anime high school! Good job Nintendo!

If I was in charge of designs, you'd hardly see any skin at all. But this is an improvement from the past few games and really does not meet my previous fears of exposed triple d's and garter belt armor among other things. It's better and by a fair margin, can we not acknowledge that?
I'll give it to you. There's still some dumb zettai ryouiki but nothing as fucking stupid as the frilly dress with thigh high stckings and garter belts like miss blondie wore in Fire Emblem Warriors. So yeah this is a step up.

And lets not call this a highschol setting. It may be a school and there may be students but those didnt look like highschoolers to me. They're at least of college age and, get this, we get to play as THE TEACHER!

In anime game world this is some sort of innovation!

I'm legit surprised (in a good way!) that there doesn't appear to be any creepy student/teacher relationships.
Like I've been saying, this game does have a school setting but doesnt appear to me they're highschoolers. It looks more like an Academy of young adults (i.e. college age 18+ year olds) rather than 14-17 year old kids like in every other goddamn anime school.

I could still be wrong though. I hope Im not.

A teacher/student relationship is still super creepy when the students are college age.

I'm still on about how boring a premise this all is. Three Houses made me think of three storylines in a war, but instead it's just... a school... with different colored uniforms. -_-

Well Valkyria Chronicles 2 did this and...uh...it was boring...uh oh.

To be fair, it does look more involved than that mess of a story but not by much.

Hopefully the naiions go to war with each other not long into the game. They could actually have an interesting storyline by having those that were once friends being forced to fight each other to the death on the battlefield. It would also be great for replayability if they let you choose which kingdom to ally yourself with.

Gonna go out on a limb and say this doesn't turn into a Game of Thrones, "stab your previous friends in the back" kinda thing.

Though I will eat my words so hard if it does and praise Nintendo all the way if they do.

It's certainly not sin free, but definitely a huge step up from the past few entries. So I think it's alright to be happy right now.
Nope, still hate the design. Supposedly a mercenary yet exposing her stomach, wearing tights and short pants. Yet the male Avatar hardly shows any skin. Classic IS. Hell, she must be also wearing boots with heels.

Why can't they create a female Avatar like Robin? Female Robin is wearing the same clothes as male Robin.

I meant the game as a whole is not sin free. I do not like her design either. The other female teacher and loli goddess are the other two offenders for me. Those three aside, I still think this is a huge improvement. Obviously things could be better, but expecting too much never was realistic. Hell, I didn't expect to be saying these things right now at all. So, small victories and what not.

Somewhere.
Gotta show off those thighs with the female protagonist in Astral Chain, though she looks fine otherwise. There is another cop shown later that has the gaps cover heh.

God the female avatar design for 3 Houses is hot trash. Especially when it's the same game with Edelgard who looks fine.

It's like they wanted to go with the sexy teacher archetype then realized she had to be a warrior but still really wanted the sexy teacher thing.

When you need to fight brigands at 8 but teach a class sexily at 9.

You can't even avoid her since she's the avatar. I guess I'll have to pick the guy this time.

Has the designer for Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn done anything since then? Shame really.

Every anime game in that direct had same main characters:
1459393391-0157f2f5b7b70d19f449c36b9f1a434a.jpeg

^this is not from the Direct.
Why is it always the same? Where's the creativity from this creative freedom?
The main male character with the same style hair, young, and featureless face and body.
Then the female character is the same but always shorter, younger, and more exposed.
Making a young character? Fine. Can they be 30 or 20 at least? Give them some muscles, different hair styles, facial hair, different fucking skin tones!
There's a range of young people you can base looks off of. ffs.

That last JRPG whose name I can't remember featuring the protagonist with heterochromia, they legit looked like preteens. We're reaching some sort of detail-less flesh but overdesigned sci-fantasy outfit singularity.

I've said this before but I can't think of a single male JRPG original protagonist (strictly protagonist, ensamble casts or playable party members who aren't the MC don't count) who has been seen with facial hair.

By original I mean not Mario who wasn't created for a JRPG and by no ensemble or party member means no one from Octopath or Barret from FFVII.

The only one I could think of, and this was a very recent one, is Noctis who looks positively dashing and handsome with a beard but that's only during a very very very small portion of the game and he's featured clean shaven in almost every single marketing material.

But if the JRPG in question has an anime style look the MC is always young and without facial hair. Always.

They're so genetically boring. Try asking to a casual Smash player if he can tell the difference between March, Chrom, Ike and this new blue haired FE 3 Houses guy. They won't be able to.

Seems like Japan is going through their own version of the "Bald White Male" phase.

Beaumont, CA
From the looks of her Twitter, she's been doing variants of her characters for Fire Emblem Heroes, and she also did this cool Samurai Shodown art for SNK's 40th anniversary.
DzP9k54UcAAO-M5

Yeah she worked at SNK before she did Fire Emblem. She's credited for the design of Rera,

Shiki, Asura, and some of the other 3D SS characters.

She did art for Samurai Shodown Sen last gen. Fantastic art, terrible game.

Yeah, Warriors Rage for PS1 has some GREAT character art from her, it's the first game where her trademark style really took shape. Great presentation, crappy game.

This always happens with anime characters. When you look outside the JRPG space, Japanese video games have older protagonists with diverse appearances. But once a game has an anime artstyle its welp better make them 15.

I've said this before but I can't think of a single male JRPG original protagonist (strictly protagonist, ensamble casts or playable party members who aren't the MC don't count) who has been seen with facial hair.
Kiryu from Yakuza is the only one I can think of, but Yakuza isn't a traditional JRPGs. Kiryu is also a rare 30+ year old character.

You know what annoys me about Astral Chain? The art direction. This is the artist's work

21626016414182_274.jpg

He also did Video Girl Ai (which honestly probably doesn't hold up too well but I haven't read it since I was in middle school) and does have a very 80's artstyle. And even he can't escape the generic anime faces for the protagonists.

Female MC for 3 houses looks like she came from TMS#FE and in the context of ~actual~ Fire Emblem that's a hell of a mess of a design

Just a footnote, 3 houses character designer is Utapris Kurahana Chinatsu. She's also worked on Aquarion/Samurai Flamenco/Tokyo Twlight. Utapri was a popular VN series aimed at female audiences. This is her website : http://www.chroma.cc
