Oh, I thought you were talking about Smash's Sakurai and was confused for a second.

It has some cognitive dissonance going, what with the sparkles and girly themes.
Just to clarify, this wasn't the reason why. Those type of pictures you describe were posted in that thread since page 1, showing off the game's photo mode. It was allowed in that thread. The real reason why is because there were too many instances of people coming in the thread to complain or troll about the existence of the game during a climate where people were looking at character designs and fan service games to such a critical degree that dogpilings were happening. The DOAX community didn't want to get involved into those types of politics but were dragged into it by outside influences, forcing the mods to take action.
It's clearly based off of a game called SNK Gal Fighters which was for girls. And they turned it into a game solely focused on men which is why you're getting the cognitive dissonance here.
Fair enough, I remember reading that somewhere in GAF but I couldn't know for sure so maybe I was wrong.

People told the story you heard as a reason to fuel a narrative and/or argument. The real story was buried and a community was axed for something they wanted nothing to do with.

There were different trailers in the international and Japan Directs. I take it he watched the international Direct.
The nintendo direct trailer had very small focus on that ... the japanese one and the press release stuff where the ones that blowed it up to beyond levels.
Or maybe I still had hopes that it would be a worthy sequel to gall fighters when I saw the direct trailer =/

Edit: Im not saying sexualization of children is acceptable, if its someone like Nanako in Persona 4, ya thats creepy and weird. But ive been called a pedo for liking P5 and choosing the Futaba route when really the difference is arbitrary when someone like a Makoto fan gets a free pass on the subject. Ok, fine, let's pretend there are no underaged characters are wearing skimpy outfits against their will. The entire plot of the game is that women are kidnapped and are forced to wear skimpy outfits against their will. This doesn't immediately strike you as somewhat out there?

I am a member of the anime and manga community since about 20 years and I dont like to be called a pedophile just because "most people in it must defend pedophilia", because they like a certain medium.
I wasnt talking about snk, I really dont know whats going on there. I dont play the snk fighters and I dont know what the problem case is here. Using force as a plot point is weird to me, I wont argue that
I'm not looking to ruin anyone. I don't delight in pointing harshness out. Those are sad moments.
But pedophilia is a horrible evil, that ruins lives. Seeing it normalized, disguised, excused, dismissed... that provokes a strong reaction from me.
And I can't help but feel upset when I see it provoking lukewarm reactions in others.

What about borderline cases though? Im not talking about explicit loli-content, but "fictional ages". Especially in a medium that you can define as art, they could draw a girl that is 16 years old, but then in another show a similar drawn girl might be a 25 year old Office Lady.
So you could take Nodame Cantabile as an example. A manga about a music college student, who is 20 years old at the beginning of the series.
Now, you can draw the main female character the same, put her in a high school uniform and put her in another show and say she is 15 or 16 and no one would bat an eye. In one case the character is drawn the same but is 20 (and later in the manga older, but still drawn the same), in the other case she would be underage.
Im not talking about the sexualization now, but just saying its hard to judge it when it comes to fictional charactes.
Even with real people my wife is usually seen as underage, just because westerners cant judge a lot of age of asians (she is 26).
"Most people in the fandom are complicit in it" is a pretty harsh generalization. By that standard I can argue that most gamers must be part of GG.
Im also not saying that there arent problems in the medium or the fandom. I would just argue that its not "most people in the fandom" who are like that.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm embarrassed I gushed about them the other day in this thread. Almost like I jinxed it. I kept thinking maybe there'll be plenty of costume options and the fanservice options will be a minority and that it would maintain the humor or Gal Fighters/the comic this is based on but...

It's not a situation where artistic aesthetic alone determines the end result opinion. I agree.
But aesthetic, combines with context, combines with history... and what SNK Heroines is showing us in this trailer feels very questionable and provokes apprehension from me.
I'm not even for a second casting stones at the whole of anime or manga here. Just speaking in regard to the strong reaction I'm having to the trailer of one specific game.
That seems like an uphill battle, given how anime and Japanese video games seem to be doubling down on this sort of stuff.
