Will Half-Life: Alyx gets review-bomb by non-VR users for being a VR game?

alright, since you guys are so unhappy, i will change the term

Topic. What do you think? this is the first VR AAA title that pizza gamers starts to sit up and take notice to beg for a pizza version, which makes this an easy target for review-bombing. This ain’t some B tier project or a shoved-in extra VR content, or some short experimental tech demo or passive experience.

I got a feeling that many toxic pizza gamers will be review-bombing this game, to vent their frustration for many reasons: that they can’t play this (because they cant afford one etc), because this is not available on their platform of choice, because this represents that VR is still very much alive despite what the haters hope for, and others reasons not related to the game quality.

Absolutely. Don't you dare expect anything better from capital G Gamers.

That use of "pancake" gamer is cringe as shit, though. Stop it.

At least on Steam you have to own the game to review bomb it, right? So you will be pretty safe to go after that score. Asuming people won't spend 45$ just to review-bomb it, lol.

And seriously who really cares about user scores on open platforms like Metacritic?

Probably, the internet is stupid. Best to just ignore it when the time comes.

Also first time I have heard the term pancake gamer. Sounds dumb.

there will obviously be a fair number of 0/10 votes, but going by the youtube trailer up/downvotes it may not be too bad

The response when it got announced made it seem like people were just disappointed. I didn't see any toxicity. It would suck if people review bombed it.

Also guys, Valve put the anti-review bomb thing out, didn't they? So that rating wouldn't be what's displayed.

If the question is if something will get review bombed because of something, the answer is yes.

Considering that there are a whole lot more non VR players than VR players, it will absolutely be reveiew bombed, I am personally happy that they are pushing for VR like that though, even if that means i'll likely not be able to play it unless it will get ported to PSVR.

probably
metacritic should just remove user reviews, they have 0 value
i don't think it'll be review bombed on steam

Review bomb in where? You need to own the game on Steam to write a review.

Expect more PSVR port begging though.

OP raises a hypotethical situation where toxicity might occur..... using toxic terms themselves. It's kinda stupid.

Judging by how people here are reacting to the term 'pancake gamer', yes it will.

Man, are people really in here getting offended by the wording "Pancake gamers"?
It's just a general term used to discuss non-VR games in VR communities.
It has not, and has never been used in derogatory context.

Probably on metacritic

Thankfully you need to own the game to write a review on Steam

Wow, I wasn't aware that there's so much toxicity and gatekeeping among VR community. Didn't even know that "pancake gamer" was a thing.

Where the hell did "pancake gamer" come from? Sounds even worse than XSEX. Why is it so difficult to use the proper terminology for things in 2020.

For context, "pancake version" is a term that refers to a non-VR version of a game, which, IIRC, was jokingly coined by a VR dev on Twitter when he was asked if there'd be a non-VR version of their game. "Pancake" isn't meant to be some sort of slight; it's just a reference to traditional displays being limited to showing a flattened (i.e. pancake-like) image.
