On "other places," (You know the ones..), some people took issue with the show clearly being more diverse than the games. With many more PoC in prominent and background roles, to put it bluntly....some people are acting like this but unironically:

BLACK PEOPLE EXIST?

rhPWtm6.gif

So the writer took to twitter and directly addressed people who are just so very economically đź‘Ź anxious đź‘Ź about the fact that not every character in their fantasy series that has *reads notes*
-elves
-various monsters and creatures that don't exist
-magic
-witches
-sorcerers
-ghosts
- tree demons
-water people
-curses

in it is white.

It seems a lot of people from slavic countries where diversity isn't really something they care for are the ones complaining the most.

The ones that claim to be among the original fans who read the books before they were translated or made into games. Claiming they don't see the slavic nature of the show from the trailer itself so therefore it must not exist. Myopic thinking. Expected.

I admire her willingness to wade through the idiocy. Seems like a complete waste of time to me.

Fantastic response.

I hope it is excellent. Unfortunately, it needs to be beyond just good if it is going to rise above the inevitable shitbag criticisms. However, it will be fantastic if it IS amazing and all the shitty people are forced to choke on their impotent rage.

Seeing replies saying "they Americanized our culture"
You can tell who actually read the witcher books based on that, because it wasn't "Slavic Mythology, the fantasy series." A ton of the short stories were just twists on old fairy tales that weren't from Poland. It was quite literally never originally celebration of Polish culture. All that said, like 75% of the "muh culture" posts seem like stuff straight out of /r/asablackman. And even the original writer of the books signed off on the world being more diverse.

- We're making the show for 190 countries. In all creative adaptations, changes are made with the audience in mind. In the video games, Geralt & the Witchers have American accents. That's not what was in the books, but developers wisely knew they should appeal to a broader base.

True. People complain but when Geralt has american accent in the game its suddenly oke and nothing is wrong.

That rando ought to be grateful they were honoured with a response from Lauren Hissrich. The entitlement on display is detestable.

"Established" characters? Like what? The descriptions of what these people look like is surprisingly vague in the books. Only specific details are given where they matter... violet eyes, ashen hair, etc.

So they thought Polish culture wasn't marketable enough and decided to put some 'murica entertainment in.

No real human being thinks this. X-Blades would be absolute trash of the highest order even if she was wearing a parka.

So you missed the part where The Witcher isn't an explicit example of fantasy infused with the culture of it's writer's origin because it's an amalgamation of twists on fantasy stories from different cultures? Which is even represented by the factions present which again, are inspired by very different cultures, for example, Nilfgaard is very clearly inspired by the Romans. 🤔
My comment is on how they are marketing the show. Even the trailer had a generic soundtrack in comparison to the games, where you hear slavic tones.

The trailer not having music that is a ripoff of the games doesn't mean that they're avoiding "Polish culture." They've said since the inception of the show that the show is not like the games.

It sucks they even felt like they need to come out and explain this.
When she was first revealed as the writer and posted a pic of the writing staff she got accused of "forcing diversity." So she's been dealing with these shitheels for a long while.

That's a really enthusiastic response to what clearly is a neo-nazi's twitter account.
