This is something i hope Sony learns with Microsoft, since they made an incredible work this gen with BC, enhanced patches, and they intend to continue this with the xsex with bc with all previous consoles, thats a very positive thing i wish sony would do the same, i know this an old request from many over here, but with the BC announcement from Microsoft yesterday, i hope sony see that as good selling point to invest and take this seriously next gen, not only for PS4 bc, but for ps1, ps2 psp etc,( and enhanced patches) since sony catalogue is great with some masterpieces in there.

I think Sony's taken the opposite approach to Microsoft. Present new exclusive games tsunami to buy into our ecosystem, vs relying on past games you'd love to experience again.
I'd like for them to tackle BC as well but I'm not sure it's part of their strategy.

People who had no problem with Xbone gonna get mad at Xbox SeX.

And I don't think there's any doubt backwards compatibility is coming to PS5 at launch. If it doesn't, they're going to get roasted.

Just call it Xbox SX. Its not that difficult. Calling it XSex just makes you sound immature. Like a little kid saying a naughty word for the first time.

Ideally, I’d like Region Free BC. Have many PS2 imports that I can put to use. Would be awesome if I can use my Japanese account for all those import PS1 games I got last generation too.

I still dont know if full BC means full xbox one support (and all its bc games) or literally all cbox family games ever

AFAIK, pre-XB1 BC is select titles already covered by the BC programme, not full BC with all prior platforms.

In any case, I wouldn’t bank on anything pre-PS4. Much as I’d like to see it, the business case going back further probably isn’t as immediately urgent as PS4 compatibility, and there’d be technical challenges for PS3.

How about no?

edit: thanks for the title change.

I’m pretty certain that Sony will leverage their extensive history properly with the PS5 by opening the floodgates for BC. I can’t imagine a world in which they don’t do this, lol. It keeps your invested user base with you.

I don't expect anything but PS4 BC unfortunately. PS1 and 2 might be doable, but PS3 sounds flat out impossible without tweaking the games themselves, like Microsoft is doing for their own BC.

You can tell this is a video games forum due to the fact someone unironically called the next Xbox the “Xsex”. Fucking Christ this is embarrassing.

Unfortunately I have a feeling we wont see Backwards Compatibility beyond PS4 games and PS2 games available on PS4.
And please, can we call the new Xbox the XSX?

As long as the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4, I'm happy. My backlog is essentially unmanageable at this point so thinking about playing games from 1992 is right out.

What BC announcement?

"One of the things we’re most proud of with Xbox Series X is the promise we’re delivering to our fans who have and continue to invest with Xbox. Thanks to backward compatibility, you can expect your gaming legacy, thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming, all your Xbox One gaming accessories, and industry-leading services like Xbox Game Pass to be available when you power on your Xbox Series X in Holiday 2020."
