From here BP will need a 23 week run and just under 40% drops to get to 700m. It it had 40% drops from here, by week 23 it would be 50k short. That said, the dollars left to go for it to get to 700m that a strong upcming week could basically seal the deal, again assuming Disney doesn't cut it early.

I've never seen people more ready to leave a theatre than with Fallen Kingdom last night.

About 20-25% of the theatre was already standing and beginning to walk out a good 30 seconds before the credits hit, and everyone else was up and walking the moment they did. Everyone was so drained it was fucking palpable. Keep in mind, this was a 7pm showing. It's not like it was 2am when it ended and people were just tired. The movie was just that fucking exhausting.

I can't remember the last time an audience was that subdued during a blockbuster opening either. I don't think it's ever been close. There were a few laughs here and there, sometimes at the expense of the movie though sometimes more genuine, but that was it. Not a single scene got even a single cheer or clap, even the numerous scenes almost specifically designed for it.

Honestly, about halfway through I very seriously considered walking out, but didn't only because I dragged four people to it.

I went 2 times. The first time was in Rotterdam Schouwburgplein, one of the biggest cinemas in the Netherlands. The theater was full and half of the audience stayed to watch the end credit scene. The second time I went to a smaller cinema and again a lot of people stayed for the end credit scene.

Both times the friends that where with me really liked the movie. Even the friend that's usually really hard to please. Black Panther he found extremely boring, Guardians 2 he did not like and he fought Solo was the weakest Star Wars movie since Episode 1.

Point is, Everyone should go see a movie for itself and not let internet posts cloud your judgement. You never know if you will like a movie if you haven't seen it for yourself.

I find it interesting that both JW films over-performed their projections by a fair bit. I guess the film is very walk up friendly.

Cinema audience for JW:FK here were groaning and laughing most of the time.
I'm not sure if they had a good or bad time watching it.

I like dinosaurs but man I couldn't finish watching Jurassic world 2015 without falling asleep halfway through. So yeah definitely skipped seeing fallen kongdom yesterday.

Saw Incredibles 2 instead last night. Was good but felt a little like a reskin of the first movie but with the parents role reversed.

Fallen Kingdom is definitely doing better than presales suggested (compared to other big releases). However 145M for the weekend is within the tracking range. Deadline said 135-150M on Tuesday this week.

It's a shame that Bayona got stuck with a Trevorrow script. He's an excellent director and although I'm still looking forward to the movie, I imagine the end result would have been much better if he was given better material to work with.

Wife wants to see JP instead of I2 tonight, all the good theaters are sold out for tonight. Ugh I really dont want to go to IMAX 3D. These bigger numbers dont surprise me in the least now.

As is always the case with films like these it's not about the first weekend but the second. It already feels like nostalgia made the first film a huge hit and now it's sequel has to stand on it's own two feet. If it holds that $145m is a great opening, but if it plummets next weekend then suddenly all bets are off.

This should still do a billion plus at the WW box office but given that it's predecessor made $1.6b that's a sizeable drop in an age when franchise growth is everything. I can already all but guarantee you that Trevorrow's third film will be just as awful as the first film so is this film series doomed for further downward trajectory?

Agree totally. I think this was a move designed just to get Bayona some 'big game' experience. I suspect he'll have a better hand on the wheel for his next big studio outing.

I'm impressed with those numbers. My theater just really didn't have that much traffic for it last night. I'll see how it goes today too!

Why is it that TLJ can make less than TFA and still be considered a big hit but JW:FK making less then the first one (while still making over a billion dollars) makes it a flop?

^ Just a huge ass weekend at the box office.

No one is saying it's a flop now though? All those posts were before real dom #s were out when some thought it would do like only $100m ow...now that it'll be around $140-150m ow, + the huge OS #s, no one is saying flop now.

Is this the first time two movies have opened above 100 million on back to back weekends or am I missing something?

That Hulk concept in that pic came back in Ragnarok tho.

Glad they did
Even the small thing in Iron Man's suit came back in IW

But the problem with AoU was the presentation of Wanda and Peitro + too much jokes + bad choreography (except for the Hulkbuster Scene) + the black widow thing + almost 50% of the movie

Adding a giant Ultron Minion won't fix it

I was referring more to the months leading up to release where it became obvious that it wasn't going to make as much as the first one (but still make a lot of money) some people here were trying to spin it like it was going to be some sort of financial disaster.

It just always put me off how some people were so determined to push a narrative about this film before it even came out.

I don't know if you knew this, but some people on this forum love to push narratives. It's like a hobby.

Shit, remember the "Suicide Squad has to make a billion dollars to break even" narrative a few years back? And don't even get me started on all the shit we've seen on here about TLJ!

When people hate a movie it seems like logic just flys out the window.

Remember how Spider-Man Homecoming was a huge flop?

Jurassic World 2 will make more than Homecoming, so it's an even worse flop.

I never once saw people spin it as a flop or financial disaster though, and I frequent the Box Office threads and any JP topics. As far as I can tell you're inventing a narrative just to push back against it.

Yeesh, I'm being dragged into seeing Fallen Kingdom either tomorrow or Monday.

Not looking forward to it at all. Everything I've heard about it makes it seem so goddamn stupid.

Wasn't even a big fan of the first Jurassic World. It had some fun action, but Jesus the writing was terrible.
