Asheron's call had pretty cool questing in that every quest was an actual quest with a specific purpose. It's a very oldschool game so the main method of actual character advancement/levelig up is just grinding mobs for XP. It also had a random loot system closer to something like diablo than WoW, so quests were the main way of getting specific, static items, many of which had unique properties.

I really just want to reply to you with the "ok boomer" image again since you used the term "oldschool."

Well, to be fair the run of the mill quest content isn't really that important for a lot of folks. The thing that keeps people subscribed and playing after the launch month is engaging end-game content and solid class/spec design that keeps people invested enough in their characters to keep doing dungeons/raids/etc week after week. At this point it's way too early to to tell how that stuff is gonna shake out.
my least favorite quests are escorts and "3D traversal" so as long as there's none of that I can be satisfied.

I've never played an MMO with "good" questing. I like to engross myself in the story and then just power through when doing it again. The quicker the better. Just don't make us suffer.
IDK, its not that there are no examples of good questing but there are alot of games that have more variety. Paths in Wildstar, SWTOR with its storylines, Warhammer Online with its Tome quests, Alot of the quests that influence zones in Guild Wars 2 and even some of the Rifts in....Rift. It just feels as if Cataclysm added some more variety to quests with some of the sillier ones like saving the bears in Hyjal and such followed by Legion adding World Quests which are the same kinda things on timers that give algorithm based rewards. I am the minority it seems that enjoys questing as my go to activity in WoW but the people who play for Endgame still have to deal with this quest design just to grind AP among other things.

It just seems as if its the biggest glaring issue in the game currently other than these expansion based progression systems*Garrisions in WoD, Artifacts in Legion, Heart of Azeroth in BfA and Covenants in Shadowlands* is the quest design. All of the playerbase has to do it at some point for the rewards it brings but it just has become such a boring piece of the puzzle. That or im just old and have been playing the same game too long, it can honestly just be that.

I should be clear that I really, generally -like- leveling my first time through. I take a week off at expansions, take my time, and just consume the world and lore and batshit stuff like a banshee queen who's been sEcReTlY eViL since 2009. As long as its not the kinds of quests I mentioned earlier, I'm fine.

After that? Fuck it. I want to burn through it because I REFUSE to buy boosts for my characters. I don't even use the "free" ones generally.

The AV quest is giving a ton of xp if you are looking for more ways to level alts. It's ticking off at an auto 21k xp for my 113 every 2 minutes or so while I farm stuff. I have no idea why. You can queue from 10-120 and everyone gets set to 60. I got 220k xp on a loss.

I expect that to be nerfed/fixed before I can get on. Oh well.

Also:

With the reveal at BlizzCon of the upcoming Shadowlands expansion, we've been getting a lot of questions regarding the schedule for the previously announced Visions of N'Zoth content update. To that end, we want to share that Visions of N'Zoth and the raid—Ny'alotha, The Waking City—will go live early next year.

SO there was a German interview by Buffed and they asked about class overahul and here was the quote.

buffed: You want to improve class identity. What's that going to look like?
Hazzikostas: We don't want to turn classes upside-down. Rather, we're reintroducing some abilities. In our opinion, we went too far in Legion with some classes and specialisations, which meant some players didn't feel comfortable playing the characters they've been playing for years. We do want to fix existing problems, though: Abilities that aren't working as intended. Talent rows that are too powerful. A complete rework, like the Survival hunter for example, that suddenly switched from ranged to melee combat, is something we're not planning to do. There are a couple specialisations we are looking to do further work on. Among them the Subtlety rogue, for example, (note: FUCK YES!) as that specialisation has been moving further into the direction of shadow magic and teleportation over the last years, which doesn't match the concept of a WoW rogue anymore. We may be putting more emphasis on control, stealth, and the PvP-archetype.

This honestly looks really promising. He mentions no Major overhauls like Survival from Ranged to melee, but a lot of work on class Talents and specs that are performing poor ( Guessing Enhance Shaman, Arcane Mage, etc)

buffed: What do you mean by "ranks"?
Hazzikostas: It's not like glyphs but rather like a new rank that hits offers a new feature. Your abilities will be elaborated on, like back in Classic or Burning Crusade. I believe we had something along those lines in Warlords of Draenor. (Note: He's talking about perks in WoD. They used to improve existing spells and were learned throughout leveling, i.e. Scorch increasing movement speed by 30%)

This also sounds pretty cool.

Man, revamped leveling would be the PERFECT holdover from 8.3 to 9.0. Make it happen, Blizzard. I'd probably level at least two or three characters in that time, including a new fox! :o

Also, yeah, I'd love to have a discussion about quest design here. I think we can all agree it's stagnant AF.
What kills me is, there have been the occasional fun, out-of-the-box quests from over the years (some in Wrath and Cata come to mind) -- why aren't those quest/gameplay designs repeated, at the very least? They appeared in like one or two quests ever, and then we never saw them again. Even if they were mediocre, they introduced variation into the game. Right now it's like 95% kill/collect quests, and 5% something different, like an escort quest or whatever.

I mean, just look at WQs. Why ditch some of the novel ones from Legion, like the Kirin Tor quests? I'd be happy to have them be in the rotation with all the 'new' Tortollan and Nazjatar puzzle box ones, if only to keep things different every day. Why do we spend 2 years doing the same few WQ designs, then another 2 years doing a different limited pool of WQ designs? Am I being clear? I'm a little rambly after too many coffees today, so IDK.

But YEAH.

With WQs at this point I seriously just parse my map for the elite enemy kill objectives because it's so mindless and low-effort to get over with.

I go out of my way to avoid the ones that start with "pick up x" because I know I'm going to be stuck doing something clunky and unfun.

Any Alliance guilds on the Whisperwind cluster accepting a casual? My guild up and left to a different server/faction and I'm not about to transfer all of my characters since I don't raid anymore anyways

No MMO on the market has really found a way to make the standard leveling quest experience all that exciting either. FFXIV and ESO both still have you going out and collecting bear asses, so it's really just the connective tissue to make you go out and do something while you're exploring the world.

Am I the only one who actually enjoys "collect X items" or "kill X enemies" quests?
Hemet Nesingwary's quest's are legimitely some of my favorite in the game, I love how relaxing they are.

Is anyone here familiar with the Warcraft YouTuber "Bellular"?

Can anyone tell me how reliable he is in terms of facts and information?

hahaha. Good times.

I was working on the PVP quest and got the honor I needed but the Timewalking Badges for the mount reward is gonna be rough. I'll just do a little each night I guess.

To be clear I don't have anything against questing as it currently exists, and I enjoy going through new zones as they pop up almost all the time. It's just not very exciting from a design perspective, and probably never will be. And I'm 100% fine with that, though I understand the criticism about it feeling like a relic.

Bellular's need to turn literally everything into a video is annoying but he's generally factual, I guess. I just don't need a video every time he sneezes but that's more of a YouTube thing, I suppose.

Yeah Bellular is pretty good, for me the only WoW YouTube content creator I don't find annoying, but I mostly get my facts from mmo-champion.com
Taliesin and Evitel is my usual WoW YouTuber, but not because of the facts he provides. I just think he and evitel are really entertaining. They do a good job. And i have seen Tali mention Bellular loads of times, but never really sat down and watched loads of his vids.

I am definitely gonna subscribe though. He isn't as entertaining as T&E, but I really good at giving the facts.

I love their cinematic breakdown videos. A really good perspective that (afaik) no one else really provides.

T&E? Yeah those are some of my favorite videos. Everyone and their mother does reaction videos, but T&E is the only channel that really takes a deep dive into them and gives an almost emotional level breakdown of everything we are seeing. It's great.

I also enjoy how that have a good sense of humor about everything. Tali knows alot of people think he is a shill because he actually understands alot of the decisions WoW makes, but he doesn't care. In fact instead of being salty he turned it into one of the running jokes of the show when he constantly refers to himself as a shill lol

Also the forum comments section is solid gold everytime.

So how difficult are the 15th anniversary raids for the mount? I haven't ranked any of these bosses for real in YEARS. I fucking forgot all the mechanics so I'm tempted to go as DPS.

they are face roll except for the old mechanics which still wipe raids, aka defile on Lich King, the dance on the Naxx boss, etc. But the fights are only like 30% of the actual fights (which is bizarre), so its still pretty easy.
