Unsubbed for the first time a few months ago after being subbed since 2004, BFA being a trash dumpster fire and developers not seemingly knowing why has given me no desire to resub, but man do I want that CE statue(I'll put it next to my blizz hq orc one).

Wonder how authentic Classic is actually going to feel. If I'm not melee'ing as a priest with Inner Fire up to level, they've failed. :p

Vanilla is going to get steamrolled, it's just impossible not to when the knowledge is dissemenated as it has been for 15 years. That said, they're AT LEAST doing it semi appropriately and gating content releases and itemization, even if they're not necessarily reverting abilities quite as far as I'd like. It should be fun.

One thing that I think will be particularly interesting is how much foreknowledge is going to be useful this time around - people will know in advance to keep their nature res items handy, they'll known in advance they're going to need a whole bunch of warrior tanks trained up and equipped for Four Horsemen...

I never played WoW Vanilla, was too busy playing Runescape but I am going to buy the CE. I played WoW on retail on and off since Pandaria. Played PS since WotLK.

Not sure what to expect, except for a more difficult game with way less handholding and a lot of community interaction. I fear the community will be split into hardcore players wo played since vanilla and newcomers who never experienced it, or were not engaged very well into the endgame. It happens in current WoW too actually. But since vanilla is much more community based with no group finders I think a lot of people, including me, are going to have a rough time without a solid community to play with.
Don't think there is any reason to worry, im sure most people who will not quit before level 30-40 are ~30 years olds who are just playing for fun and not tryharding and min maxing everything. Im sure new players are welcomed and why would anyone discriminate against players who weren't there 15 years ago.

Actually when I think about it would be pretty funny meme to call someone a noob (do people call someone noob anymore anyway?) if he/she didn't play vanilla before. It's so juvenile and dumb.

That's cool. I played wow in the early days and was there day one for the burning crusade. I played 7 years through mists. Good times. I suppose stopped playing because I don't want a gaming pc anymore as I'm torally console.

15 years... that's so crazy when you think about it.

Remember winning a Betakey for the game back in 2004 in a "sumo wrestling costume" competition at Dreamhack hah.

Wondering, wiill we be able to just install the Classic version on our PC to just play that, or we need to install all the WoW content to date, even if we just want to play classic?

I'm more interested in the upcoming expansion tbh, I'm so done with BFA.

I'm gonna give 8.2 a try. The changes to the Heart sound good, like how it should've been in the first place.

It'll be a seperate client you access via the Bnet Launcher, just as the alpha was, so no, no need to install modern WoW.

This is the only reason I will just check it out for the memory trip and not bother with any raiding or long term play. I main tank on a pally. I don't heal. Have no interest in rolling a warrior tank.

I really don't wanna go back at it until a pre-patch or if 8.3 is outta this world.

WOW needs some good really stuff in it to convince old players to come back, they gotta revamp combat one way or another... Also a new engine or a brute upgrade to it would help.

Let's hope what Activision said in the fiscal report regarding betting more on warcraft and cod will be true

In my experience on the private servers everyone is extremely helpful, whether they're trying this for the first time, or veterans. Getting the sense of community is the absolute main selling point for me in this. Leveling up in Elwynn Forest last month on a private server, I made two great connections already because it was just absolutely necessary to not be killed by a fuckton of murlocs.

I had the same experience when I tried out a private server a couple of years ago. People were using whisper and partying up to help each other out, it was a totally different game to modern WoW.

No way I'm going back, I was straight up addicted to vanilla WoW. Thankfully I got so upset that my gear wouldn't be worth a damn that I sold my account before the first expansion released.

Brings back great memories though. Amazing game.

I played on Nost when it was huge... It was an incredible experience, people were helping everyone out, general chat wasn't just MAGA chuds, it was people actually trying to do things... I can't wait to go back.

Same here. There were avenues to tank as a paladin in Vanilla, despite what conventional wisdom was - although it was largely just the likes of adds, although I *think* - and it's been a long time, memory could well be shaky - I was fine tanking the 20-mans. I don't remember how I managed tank swaps, though, maybe I only tanked bosses that didn't require one?

But if you wanted to commit to long-term tanking in prime roles, you simply had to be a warrior. And the few bosses that mana drained were hilariously brutal on paladin tanks.

Likewise I've been thinking about how knowledge of class balancing and PVP will affect character populations. How many people are gonna play druids, paladins and shamans to be healbots? Back in the day I don't think most people started those classes expecting that, but it took so long to hit 60 and gear up that they were pigeonholed in those roles. Maybe I'm projecting a little there but I know I'm not alone. Likewise even back then, Warriors and Rogues were a dime a dozen. But I see it being even worse now. On the other end of the spectrum I wonder if there will be far more dwarf priests.

Oh and since everyone knows about Thunderfury and Sulfuras now the competition for them will be intense. Meanwhile, my raid guild got the horde first Ragnaros kill on my server and ran MC every single god damn week long after we should've stopped. Never once got a legendary drop in years. Probably best to get those stars outta your eyes and settle for an Arcanite Reaper.

My friends and I are just going to play for a month or two to check it out. I can't imagine us having the time to do raiding anymore.
Also, this comes out three days after I take my paternity leave so hopefully I can get some time in and that baby stays inside for an extra week or two

A full year of MC; no Eye of Sulfuras, only one Binding of the Windseeker.

(And only one pair of paladin tier legs)

Streamers with big followings, giant discord groups, detailed youtube guides for every single thing are just some of the factors that will make Classic not feel like the "classic" experience people are dreaming about (unless you unplug from everything).

The game itself was just part of the reason it felt magic: not knowing where to go but slowly discovering it (with mistery and wonder), the necessity of being social in-game to achieve things were some of the biggest ingredients.

Yup. I off tanked some boss mobs Majordomo when we didn't have all our warriors and that one fight in ZG, can't recall the boss, the tiger guy I believe, but mostly was a healer. So glad TBC changed that, and WotLK solidified non warrior tanks.

Still flaws in both, of course; Illidan's Shear was downright cruel in TBC after you'd been able to tank pretty much the whole expansion (and been literally dominant in Hyjal) up until then, and WOTLK had General Vezax in Ulduar who tapped into that mana drain problem I indicated before, but at least in that case you could work around it if you were good!

For all Cataclysm's flaws, that's the point when they figured out just what a paladin tank is.

I hope this succeeds. I really want a wrath server. Also there is nothing else to do so its coming around at the right now. This years been pretty bone dry for mp games on pc so I hope I get in at some point soon.

Does it work like you just make a new character and go? I've always played a NE feral druid since TBC (never played vanilla) but it will probably be really hard to go back to that after the spec has seen some love. I'm thinking either mage or warrior right now.

WoWHead too and sites of that nature. The social experienced will definitely be interesting but I can't help but feel the rose colored glasses will crack by 2020. I am going to play BETA and see if I can get back the magic of my Vanilla days but I just don't see that happening for me personally.

I have played private servers: I can vouch for the fact there are at least some players who enjoy the vanilla world even with all the knowledge already in place.

The game requires socialising far more even with that knowledge, which is a big deal for me.

Excited for this. Not interested in playing beta. I'll check out some videos and streams, but looking forward to the release in August.

You would think that, yet I still bought THOUSANDS of elemental fire, earth and water for a few cooper/silver on private servers and made so much gold in later content patches. There will always be new/less knowledgeable players.

NGL, i'm pretty hyped, even if it means i'll only be hyped for like a month before the nostalgia wears off.

If they have shield spikes then i'm going Pally again, otherwise i'll probably see what's needed more, tank or heals.

considering the CE is still up on the site and hasn't been removed like they often do once something sells out I wouldn't be surprised if it got restocked

It sucks you have to be currently subbed to current WoW to have a chance to get into the WoW Classic Beta though.

Well I'm in the US and nabbed one at Amazon UK. Missed everything else so far.

What are the chances that bundled codes work on my US account?

The WoW Classic Beta is now live. A bunch of streamers are playing it.

Classic WoW is the most viewed game on Twitch right now lol.

I really wonder how they will handle expansions. because you know they're going to have to do bc and wotlk but you know there will be people who want vanilla forever but people who will want to take their classic character into bc

So from what I know, the devs seem basically open to anything. They've already said they're interested in making BC and wrath servers, and I have to imagine that it would be character-copy to start on those servers.

They've also said they're willing to create new content for vanilla if that's what the community wants. Imagine blizz releasing new content for vanilla while releasing BC and wrath AND while creating new content for retail (but honestly who gives a shit about retail at this point). If i could be playing BC and wrath at the same time while also doing the new vanilla content I would have so much shit to do, that would be awesome.
