Now, on to the thread!

I've noticed this article floating around that lists compelling reasons for GTA being on switch. The big question is would this game even SELL?
https://www.finder.com.au/gta-v-nintendo-switch
  • Has GTA 5 reached market saturation?
  • How has the game performed on pc?
  • Would Nintendo get in on the act with bundles or publishing?
What say you?

I'm going to assume this was a half-rhetorical question but answer it anyway: yes.

I own it on 360, PS4 and PC. I'd rebuy it for Switch in a heartbeat.

I haven't bought GTAV yet. I would probably buy it on the Switch.

It won't happen, but yes, it would sell huge. And yes, Nintendo would back it very strongly.

You could put it in the Gizmondo or Virtual Boy and it would sell crazy numbers.

Yes especially if the online is up to snuff.
GTA V is a monster, i am sure it would do very well on Switch. I wonder if it will happen tho, i hope it does since it would be pretty huge to get a mainline GTA game on a Ninty console. And honestly i would triple dip for GTA V on the go.

Of course it would. It's GTA 5. A million sounds guaranteed. Is it enough for Rockstar ? I don't know. But the economic viability of such port isn't in question.

Has GTA 5 reached market saturation ? It's still in the top selling games.

It sold over 8.7 millions units on Steam alone. You can add easily 2 or 3 more millions, if not more, from physical copies/3rd party stores/Rockstar Social club.

Would water be wet?

GTA V + Switch is obviously an explosive combination. I personally believe it'll happen.

The sooner it happens the better, though.

It would sell like candy, no doubt. Would it run decently in its current state though? GTA Online especially that runs like ass even on PS4 and Xbox One with crazy loading times, lag, glitches? That's a different story altogether. But even a single player-only version of the game (which would be feasible considering it launched on X360 and PS3 in that state) would sell crazy good. Rockstar is definitely sitting on some easy money there, unless they are already actively working on a port as we speak.

The better question is

Would GTA Online sell well on the Switch, cause that's what rockstar is interested in.

I'm still holding from buying GTA V on any console or PC because at the time I really wanted this game on Wii U. But today, having a Switch in my hands, I can only dream to play GTA V on the go. I would buy it day 1 full price.

I had it on ps3...traded it in. Have it now on ps4, but haven't opened it yet. I would buy it for switch.

I would buy it for a third time. Having that type of open world on the go along with Breath of the Wild/Skyrim style open world would feel great.

Yes, but porting GTA Online would probably be a nightmare and may well be nearly impossible. The game is also 73 gigs on my PC and around the same on my PS4 (I think bigger?), I don't know how big a switch version would be but that kind of size is going to cause all kinds of problems - no one would want to buy a $120 "game on cart" version, and requiring people to have 50+gb free on a (now mandatory) microSD card will cause havoc.

Rockstar ported the PC version themselves, they don't strike me as the kind of company that likes to outsource stuff and so it really becomes a question of: is it better to spend X manhours on making a switch version that will probably sell 2-4m copies or spend that time on RDR2 or another new concept game that will probably sell 20m+ copies. The answer seems self evident.

GTA 5 released on Sep 17, 2013. It was the 12th best selling game in Oct 2017 and the SIX BEST SELLING GAME OF 2017. Thats just insane, isn't it?
