Why would it be the same serial numbers? Their whole purpose is to be unique.
I think it's the model number, not the serial number. U-Boat watches all seem to have 4-digit model numbers.

edit: I can't find good pictures of that particular model, but the current range all have their unique limited edition number on a plate fixed beside the crown.

Received my SBDC061. Still need to get it sized. But damn this watch is gorgeous, and I'm amazed at the high level of quality. I have six inch wrists and its not that big. Once I get it sized I'll take pics.

This watch would look sexy on rubber strap

Ugh. Got it sized and it is too big. I think I'm going to call the site I got it from to see if they will take it back. It still has the blue sticker. If they do I'll add the links back. If not I'll sell it. Should've gone with Nomos.

...well fuck.

My Sinn UX GSG 9 has FINALLY died. it's been nearly a decade. I was inspired by OnkelC to buy one of these watches back on the old site. Now I'm pretty sure I have to send this bitch back to Germany to get the battery changed (and in the process, new set of oil and all that, since it's sealed).

yup, that would be the case, here are the procedural instructions as well as the price list:
it's not THAT pricey, though, I recently paid 220EUR incl. VAT to have it serviced. Still a great watch, and it has replaced my Sea Dweller as the daily wearer :).

I have to service my 556 which is not as involved obviously, but I am wondering if any local watch maker can service since it is an off the shelf ETA. My concern is whether or not the seals need to be specifically replaced with Sinn parts or if anyone would be able to source the seals as well.

You can also send to RGM. They're the authorized repair center for Sinn (and other brands) in North America.

(these prices though...)

Yea Ive been trying to avoid RGM due to cost. A watch service shouldnt be 50% of the watch's cost. I paid 900 usd for it years and years ago.

I'm in the market for a Rolex Bluesy, talking to an AD to try and get one outside of the grey market. Probably gonna have to wait a bit.
On a different note, I bought the 15th anniversary Monster Hunter Seikos, which I think are fun.
The watches arrived today. Surprised at how much I like the Nerg in person, especially in the sunlight. Apologies for the potato quality photo, it's dark here already and I don't have adequate lighting to really show them off.

Yo! That one looks like the nomos Glashutte tangente watch that I want to buy, but not feeling like paying that much. This seems like a really good second option-. Are the Tisell watches of decent quality?

Anyway, good get! Looks great!

I can't say much since it's the only watch I own, but everything seems quality to me lol. I wear it every day and nothing has been wrong, tho I did replace the strap on the day I got it for something I liked better so idk if it's strap gets torn up easy or anything. It's only around 200 too if you decided to go that route.

Cool, did you order the watch online? I read myself up a little bit and Tissel seems to be of decent quality and for that price, I feel it's a no brainer. Really cool finding out about the watch, so thanks for bringing it the attention to me :)

Yep! Got it from their site here; http://tisellkr.com/product/tisell-...-9015-automatic/30/?cate_no=1&display_group=2

$205 and not a complaint here. Fav part is that the blue hands REALLY pop in sunlight, and the casing gets a real cool effect in it as well.

I think I'm falling in love with the Cartier Santos. Not that I could ever afford it, but is it a good watch?

Edit: Wait, I just remembered I own this Seiko King Quartz I bought on eBay a while ago. Close enough, I guess. Time to wear it again.

Meant to post pics of these couple of fun watches I picked up. They're from a Seiko sub-brand Albi.

Neat detail is that sliding off the plastic case "moves" Mario. haha.
Tried to show this in the second picture.

Oh wow. I cant afford its counterpart, the Stowas but I always thought the Chinese made Rodina was the only other of its kind.

This looks like a much better buy. Where did you buy this?? Seems I cant find a store to ship to Canada without insane fees. Are you European?

_______

Need some opinions:

Do you guys think the Bambino is a better simplistic watch over the Tiseli:

I want this watch for its simplicity, but I want a higher end watch for the beautiful business of the moon/day cycle, day and week. That watch is the Orient Sun and Moon V3

Not my hand. Do you guys like this colour? Or this:

For every day wear, Im looking at the Timex Weekender, which is like $50, but Im not so sure about the quality.

I've heard Weekenders are great, but also LOUD, which is why I never bought one.

I prefer the silver Sun & Moon with the textured dial.

Bambinos are lovely and everyone loves them, so I'd probably pick the other one just to be different!

Yes, saw that about Weekenders. The Weekender Chronograph supposedly fixes this, but it apparently has its own issues with quality and the hands loosening to gravity... I dont want to overthink it, because at $50 it seems like a great watch, but at the same time if it's going to break down within months I dont want to bother

I've got a Weekender I've had for about 8 years and it's still going strong (standard Weekender, just now realized you were referring to the chrono). Just had to replace the battery once which is pretty easy to do yourself. I do think the loudness this is pretty over blown, but ticking watches don't generally bother me.

As far as the Orients, I've got that first Bambino you posted and for ~$120, it's a great deal for a mechanical, slightly dressier watch.

If I were only to get one or the other, I'd probably grab the Weekender. It's pretty easy to slowly start picking up a bunch of straps to mix it up and I think it looks great on something like the Form*Function*Form leather band.

Heya RESETERA!

I take the opportunity to (re)launch this timepiece/wristwatch/... thread today.

Welcome to all RESETERA! Horologists or not!

GS

edit: WIP BELOW. PM me if you want to help :)

WHY A THREAD ON WRISTWATCHES IN 2017? WE ALL HAVE A PHONE IN OUR POCKET...

Yes you do have a connected phone that can keep track of time much better than any mechanical/quartz watch out there.
And yes, it seems you don't absolutely need a wristwatch in this day and era.

Except you actually do, here is why:

Image3.png

- Because it looks stylish. It really does. Look:

NomosLifestyle-4r.jpg

65291b4b99949bdb8f3da764542f8406.jpg

(stolen from the dink)

Cz9u_We8.jpg

(stolen from reddit)

- Because when it comes to mechanical watches, the craftsmanship involved is interesting and unique. Let me explain:
All the stuff we own today is made in millions of units: Iphones/shoes/glasses/TVs/etc... And while some of us may find the original design interesting, we can all agree the process of building those items is actually quite boring (when it's not worse...). Mechanical watches on the other hand, can be both appreciated for their design - how they were conceived - as much as for how they are made: sometimes they are hand finished, often hand assembled, checked for defaults by the thorough eyes of a specialist, carefully painted/engraved, etc.
All this process, old and generally unchanged for decades, is poetic and interesting today in an era where everything is 'outdated' after a few months and very rarely handmade...

Image4.png

- Cause mechanical watch movements are the coolest/geekiest and they look absolutely gorgeous especially when finished and decorated by the hands of a master:

Image5.png

- Cause they have a fascinating history. Today most watches are just trying to capture a trend, but at some point during the last century they were really part of human history. I will just name a few iconic examples:

The first watches were actually pocket watches, they were followed by wristwatches which were first only worn by women. The very first dudes who requested a wristwatch were actually... Pilots! They needed to be able to time things and do it just glancing at their wrist while piloting a plane was much easier... This happened roughly during WWI.

In the 50s, the first diver watches hit the market. They are often seen with a 'bezel', a round shaped object around the watch dial which can usually be turned. Specifically the diver used to turn the bezel to try and align the 0 with the minute hand, and then be able to measure time underwater and gage the oxygen left.

43d1ff72140604c5c15ea3ed266f8473.jpg

In 1969, when landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong was actually wearing an Omega Chronograph called the Speedmaster. As you can imagine, the watch had to pass several extremely harsh testing, and the work of Omega's engineers is absolutely stunning in that regard. Even crazier, it looks fantastic! This watch, now legendary among collectors and nicknamed the 'moonwatch', is still sold today with a similar movement, and is still approved by NASA to use in space flights.

In the late 60s, the scientists working on the Super Collider in CERN in Geneva have an issue. They find themselves timing stuff all the time, but in their environment any mechanical watch is really unreliable as they get magnetized all the time... CERN reaches out to ROLEX and order a watch that could take up to a thousand 'gauss' which is a measure of magnetism. ROLEX diligently delivers the 'MILGAUSS' (Mille is a thousand in French), which quickly became the 'scientists/physicist watch' everywhere at that time, and is still sold today in what is (IMHO) its best iteration: (the second hand hints at this history :D)

Oh, and on top of having great stories, they were worn by people who made our History (in a good or bad way...).

- Last but not least: cause, when you want to check time, you can either graciously raises your wrist and gently push your sleeve up to reveal a lovely wristwatch, or you can awkwardly thrust your hand in your jeans pocket to grab a phone, take it up to finally turn it on... Think about it.

BLOGS/NEWS

HODINKEE - The number one blog of the watch world. Not really a big fan myself, but they are extremely influential. All their reviews are always very positive, and they work with a lot of brands which make their opinion probably biased.

SJX WATCHES - In my opinion the best watch blog out there. They feel the trends, and they give an honest opinion.

Monochrome / worn and wound / a blog to watch - other blogs, most of the time covering similar stuff as the 2 above.

INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS

A huge part of the watch community and culture is focused on IG these days. Here are a few interesting accounts to follow:

WATCH ANISH - sometime classy, sometime bad taste... But still, the guy pretty much invented the 'wrist shot' culture singlehandedly, you got to give him that...

FAKEWATCHBUSTA - as the name indicates, the guy busts celebrities and their fake watches... He was the 'coolest' a couple of years ago... Now he tends to be forgotten a bit...

WATCH FRED - If you like vintage chronos, Fred is your guy. Beware, includes an awful lot of watches in coffee beans. (?)

SANTA LAURA - Singapore based collector. If you think that tuning you fluo green half a million dollar watch to your (same colored) Lamborghini is cool, you may like this guy :D

ATOM MOORE - Art director of the famous 'AnalogShift' vintage watch store in NYC (they are vastly overpriced, don't buy from them btw :D). He has an interesting eye and artsy angle.

HDFANATIC - The excellent Hatem, possibly my favorite vintage collection on IG...

Obviously Hodinkee, SJX have an account too. And so all the major brands.

INSTAGRAM RESET ERA ACCOUNTS

I'd go for the black one for its versatility, but if you can afford both, then go for it. Nothing wrong with having the same watch with different dial colours and alternating between them.

Both are not an option, Id just buy the Sun and Moon or something else.
Too big/too much dial for me.

Thats the women's version, 35mm I believe, compared to 41.5mm.. That would not work for me right? My wrist is about 6.5"

Is it tacky for a 6.5" wrist to wear something thats 41-42mm diameter? Will people care?
Jewelry is always polarizing. Lots of people don't even wear accessories because they're afraid of what people might think of. Turns out, when you actually wear the watch/ring/etc. most people don't actually care or will even congratulate you.

You have to adopt a 'YOLO' mindset and follow your dreams. Rock that watch if you think it looks good!

I like those quite a bit. It does seem that every time Orient releases a new watch, their giant logo right at 12 sticks out more and more. I wish they could do a revamp, even if they only used it on some of their more minimalist designs, although it is my least favorite thing about the Mako so maybe they just deed to ditch it all together. Or even if they just dropped the crest and left the Orient wordmark.

Anyone know of any "unique"/fun watches?

For example, the Rainbow one above is cool because it uses discs. Is there anything like that involving planets? Keep in mind I cant afford the thousand dollar watches

For example look at these cool watches by Mr Jones:

Timewise (the mouse moves around the clock--minuteahand, and the owl beak chases it-- hour hand).

I adore this, but its a limited print ill never really have

A moon/sun phase watch where the minute hand sits in the middle, and the moon/sun act as the hour hand (going from 6 AM to 6 PM)

Still deciding on the Orient Sun and Moon and need help.

Seems the V3 is like 50mm lug to lug and I have a 6 3/4" wrist or so, similar to this guy:

Does it look ridiculous? And Id consider wearing this to work wear I roll up my dress shirt sleeves, and to parties with friends and such, where I again tend to roll or slide my sleeves up. Is it too much to have such an obvious watch?

My current watch is 47mm lug to lug, and I dont think it looks huge, but I guess I never noticed but an extra 3mm seems big.

This watch is also thick-- 14mm I believe.
