Time for an external HDD accessory? XD. Cheaper for everyone, but the option is still there for those who can't. I mean.. It'd be bad for physical in general... But... That's kinda already happening.

What I see the physical space becoming is more akin to what Limited Run or t shirt people do. Make relatively modest runs of physical games, with a significant portion based on collector editions though not entirely, then lean on global shipping to get it to the people who need it. Physical will survive, but its time as the default is beyond saving now.

Apex Legends, PUBG and Fornite have sold more than 100 Million copies, MP is where the money is.

Games like Apex Legends will help fund Titanfalls and A Way Outs of this world.

MS needs GaaS content to fund other games like Hellblade, Super Lucky's Tale etc and boost GP.

I don't know if they need it. People can only play so many GaaS at a time. Sony hasn't needed GaaS to release God of War, Spider Man, The Last of Us. I want the 1st party studios delivering solid experiences that aren't being provided by 3rd party studios. Microsoft won't need GaaS games to fund development, I see them betting on Game Pass to bring in the extra developmental revenue.

Umm, isn't he supposed to be under embargo or something? Or is this more of an impressions video?
He bought it from a retailer that broke street date, so he's not under embargo. He's basically saying that he enjoyed his time and he thinks the game is at least above average, but he feels that other games have done it better and he kept feeling reminded of other games that he enjoyed. There are some high highs, but a lot of mediocrity in design of interiors, driving, some aspects of combat, mission design, etc. He says it's for a certain type of person who will like it and stick with it, but he doesn't honestly know how to even begin to attach a score or recommendation to this game.

Sounds about right with the divisiveness of impressions so far.

I don't think these independent streamers care about breaking NDA's these days. they will lose inside access going forward though but they probably gain more by posting early and getting their name and channel out there. Unless he got the game elsewhere of course.

edit: heh yep, should have watched 5 seconds of the video.

I've got a premise/wish list for a potential Crackdown sequel.

"Crackdown"
  • soft reboot set in the not-so distant future
  • everything in the original trilogy happened in the past: in this world the Agency completed its mission and like to all those that wield it, their absolute power corrupted absolutely
  • Agency are the bad guys! (as we originally found out in the first game)
  • you, the protagonist, are a customisable force of serendipitous nature - whether you're good, bad, neither or in between is all up to you
  • story premise: shortly after its rise to power, the Agency devoted unprecedented funding for its super soldier program and at the height of their corruption, one of their leading scientists betrayed them, cornered and with nowhere to hide the scientist set off a reaction in their lab in New Providence that resulted in the rampant and widespread mutation and led to the birth of superpowers all across the region
  • several years later, superpower are commonplace, chaos reigns and the Agency is once again reduced to enforcing their tyrannical laws in the face of historic levels of super-powered gang warfare
  • you, the protagonist, are minding your own business when you are caught in the crossfire of conflict over a shipment of a superpower granting resource and as it would happen awaken powers shortly after, and with it the motivation to put them to good use: whether it's to take Control, restore Justice, or just to Watch the World Burn
  • each story choice follows a different progression as you are thrown in a world of lawlessness where you fight your way through superpowered mayhem and chaos in both the agency and enhanced gangs
  • game would feature new kinds of animations and gameplay additions to core Crackdown freeform mayhem experience with wall running, rail grinding, gliders and grappling hooks - each of which can be enhanced by the collection of orbs that are now more creatively placed to compensate
  • story and gameplay would draw inspiration form shows like Batman Beyond, Heroes, Flash, and games like Sunset Overdrive, Infamous Jet Set Radio, thereby giving MS a proper, bona fide first party superhero entree without the need for licensing an IP

Solution: Don't have a Title.
I like to think that we're not yet at a point where we miss out on a chance for some humor because we can't reach a collective agreement.

Also that would mean abandoning my dream of having it called "Game Pass: The Musical" as now all of XGS will sing to Game Pass' tune and also it was the best joke in the fake emails from Melissa McGamepass (and if you followed the exchanges between Greame and Game Pass' Twitter account you'll agree it's the most funny they've done hahah)

The founder of the studio did say in an interview that they would also be making AAA titles.

Not quite, he said it was going to be in between.
You mentioned moving up from double-A up to triple-A -
Brian Fargo:
Hold on - I would say somewhere in between.
Sorry, yes - I don't mean like a Rockstar Games. Anyway, presumably alongside Wasteland 3, you're beefing up to make something new for Microsoft?
Brian Fargo:
Yeah, we will be.
Are you working on something now?
Brian Fargo:
Well, we've had a project in development for some time we haven't announced that they're quite keen on, so we'll be looking at that and saying, 'Okay, what does this product look like now we're going to be given extra time and resources?' Evaluating how we could make it better.

Given that inXile recently hired Chad Moore and they're hiring for roles with MP experiences, their new project is likely going to be AAA, but I don't think they were entirely clear on the scope of the project under MS ownership until fairly recently.

Close to wiping away all doubt inXile going AAA.

Still my dark horse of the studio purchases. They have the industry experience. Fargo is self aware and knowledgeable of what it takes. If he says they're going AAA, no reason to think they don't have a realistic plan in place to be AAA.

I've been committed to claiming Compulsion as the dark horse, but I think inXile is the most underestimated studio of the bunch. That's a studio put together by veterans and great writers and designers that simply haven't had the funds to realise their ambitions - until now.

The game looks so good in this video.

In general the guy seemed relatively balanced I suppose in his thoughts, and frankly I am probably more excited after watching that because I LOVE the colors and everything that should look awesome in HDR. And frankly the game just sounds like fun to me: good selection of cool weapons, incentive to explore the world, varied enemy encounters and incentive to use your different gear, fast paced action that encourages chaotic gameplay like DOOM, and so forth. The whole talk about whether it is not "great" in terms of the best of the best open world games that have come out just doesn't matter to me frankly, as I want some freaking fun :)

You lost me at "story". Crackdown is about blowing shit up motherclucker. Lol

Actually I want them to use next gen CPUs to increase single player destruction and improve the sandbox. Can get orbs by bringing them down to you.

Preach, Wasteland 3 is one of my most anticipated games this year, looks like such a step on from Wasteland 2:

Maybe I'm getting it all mixed up in my brain cos I could have sworn reading a recent interview of his were he stated his interest in making AAA games cos he knows gamers like those too, anyways. I hope they make AAA games in the future and this quote of his gets me every time. can't wait to see what they have planned for the future.
"We also spent quite a bit of time with the development groups they purchased and their teams could not have been more enthusiastic about how fortunate they felt to finally be given the time and money to create. I only know the Microsoft under Phil Spencer and Matt Booty and they are passionate gamers who care deeply about supporting talent. More important than words and promises will be the games that come from us in the future, that will be the proof."

I never get tired of that screen shot.

People seriously underestimate inXile it's comical. They probably have better writing staff than Obsidian at this point. Hell, George Ziets, one of the main writers on Pillars of Eternity, joined them in 2014 and has headed up WL3 since.

Porn has stories too. Some stories don't count.
