They're all stuck on and weird, because it's a step in the composition of the piece of art used on the ultimate edition steelbook (which I posted upthread).

I hate every variation of the Gears 5 cover art I've seen.

I'd have much preferred a more simple, cleaner design over what they settled on.

The game is at its strongest point yet, and according to developer Undead Labs, currently has its highest player count ever.
“We’re in a really great position where we’ve gotten to keep adding players to the game,” Richards said. “We’re [at] 5 million players, and we’re looking to grow.”

Pretty fun article to read.

A few months later, Spencer took over as head of Xbox. Whatever jubilation he felt was short-lived; a few weeks into the job, he got a call from Satya Nadella, Microsoft's new CEO. "I don't actually know a whole lot about why we're in gaming," Nadella told him.
It seemed like a good time to ask that question. Spencer was facing a lot of internal scrutiny from his own team. Many developers who had worked on the Xbox One felt let down by Microsoft's big vision; it was, as some told Spencer, not in line with "the soul" of what Xbox was. "Satya was transparent that there could be a future where gaming isn't a business that Microsoft should be in," Spencer told me. "But it's better to have it above the table than below the table, right?" Spencer tried to work out what to say to Nadella. He looked at where Xbox had failed, and how the brand could be saved--if at all. When he finally called Nadella back, it was to say this: "If we're going to stay in the gaming space, then let's make sure we're all-in. The last thing I wanted to do was run the gaming organization here as kind of an afterthought of the company and kind of half-in, half-out. Let's go fix who we are."
"One of the first calls we got after the Minecraft acquisition was from Sony saying, ‘Are you going to pull it off PlayStation?'," Spencer said. "And I'm like, ‘Why why would I do that? People like playing it on PlayStation.'"
Three years ago, Spencer got an Xbox Live invitation to play Destiny with a man named Keith Garlington ("Hitman"), a father of two who runs a funeral home in Arkansas. "Phil had talked a lot publicly about being a dad and not having enough time to play games, so I just sent him a message saying, ‘Hey, I'm a dad too," Garlington told me recently. Spencer and Garlington now play together a few nights a week. They're usually joined by Amin Cooper ("Megatron"), who works construction and lives in New Jersey. The three men talk about life, work, and family as they drive around in Forza and co-op on Destiny 2 strikes. "We know each other's wives' names. We know each other's kids' names. We know what we're all doing next weekend," Spencer told me. "What other social construct would put these three random people together like this?"
That I only care about cross-platform play because we're ‘losing.' There's no way for me to disprove that other than to say it's not true.
The first person Spencer bumped into was Steve Singer, Nintendo America's vice president of licensing, who, upon spotting Spencer, promptly gave him the middle finger. It was all for show, of course--the two men hugged warmly and talked shop out of earshot. Even inside the booth of a direct rival, Spencer's fans weren't far off. A young volunteer in a red Nintendo shirt spotted him and jogged over to say hi; it turns out the two know each other from Xbox Live.
For his part, Schafer was initially skeptical of the acquisition. Firstly, it wasn't something that he'd been thinking about. Secondly, he was worried about potentially putting Double Fine's identity at risk. "Like, do we all change our emails to Microsoft emails and paint all the walls green?" he told me. What ultimately changed his mind was a phone call to the folks at Ninja Theory, who told him that Microsoft's insistence on letting first-party studios just keep doing what they wanted with minimal interference was true. "They said, ‘We are still who we are. They're letting us make the kind of games we want to make.' And that was a huge thing for me. I could see how it makes sense--it makes sense not to have them convert us to making Forza DLC or something."
When the discussions became more serious, Spencer invited Schafer out for a drink during this year's DICE Awards. He laid out what the acquisition would mean for Microsoft, and what it would mean for Double Fine. "I've worked with a lot of different publishers over the years and they all have their own personalities and styles--but Phil is just a very legit individual," Schafer said. "

I've been playing SOD2 a lot as of late. It really stands as my favorite survival game this gen which is pretty odd since I don't even like survival games. Good thing that they aren't done with supporting the game.

I do hope we get to see more different variations of freaks in the next game and even more depth in character systems.

IGN posted an article regarding Booty’s interview with Game Informer and the tag line reads:

“Studios like Double Fine and Obsidian might not be tied exclusively to Xbox.”

Articles written by uninformed journalists annoy me for obvious reasons.

Every site uses clickbait these days. Gamereactor also did it with the Ninja stuff.

"Ninja apologises for porn promo on his old Twitch channel"

Its this way more implied he had anything to do with it.

Pretty fun article to read.

I’ve mentioned it a few times when people say Phil ruined the Xbox brand. The Xbox still exist because of what it’s become. If it wanted to try re-creating the 360 playbook to capture the living room and exist as just a box, it would already be dead.

Reminds me of the Morrie about to get whacked scene From Goodfellas. Henry: “poor bastard. Never knew how close he was to getting killed.”

Of course Morrie got whacked anyways. Anything could still happen to Xbox however at this time, Spencer is a made man.

Problem is they’re very informed. Intentionally presenting the statements out of context for clicks.

So frustrating - improper “clickbait” usage only hurts public perception.

(assuming proper usage is creating an article on how to run X program on X new product, for example)

This is the best. Everyone said that about the PC thing too, but now that Microsoft has totally revamped their PC efforts, those posts have mysteriously disappeared and Phil is lying about the next thing.

They'll keep moving goalposts. Just wait until all 1P dev teams start churning out the good stuff. You'll see even more of it.. Lol.

Eventually, there will be no room to shift goalposts.
“I’ll just play it on my PC/phone”

It’s all about the sport of plastic wars. Some people holding on to the sport like Al Bundy used to hold onto the 5 touchdowns he threw in one game in High School. They’ll keeping talking about the day Sony routed Xbox even though most gamers don’t give a fuck.

Console wars are fun when you're a teen with limited resources, but being an adult and trying to prove that your piece of plastic is superior is just sad. Just buy as much hardware you can and enjoy the amazing world of video games. Simple as that.

I would like to believe that eventually you will see Sony following a similar route, putting their games on PC and having a streaming platform. It is just the way that tech is going. No sane business will lock itself from gaining more business.

When it comes to games, Microsoft is primed to more than compete with any publisher out there, and if Undead Labs and Compulsion make that jump in quality...........

I have been replaying all of the Gears games over the last few weeks to prep for 5 and finished Gears 3 tonight. I thought I would quickly load up Gears 4 to see what it looked like in 4k Hdr as I played it at 1080p on a TN monitor for PC. Holy effing s*** my eyes melted in the flashback sequence.

Side note, I forgot how good the story in the trilogy was and just how much of a step up each game is from the previous.

And thats imo the "weakest part" visually. Ones the game really starts and you get more into the night and lots of overgrown parts. Its insane.

Just finished 3 over the weekend and started 4 in 4k last night myself. First time playing through the series. Seriously can't wait to boot it back up and play the rest, and its getting me even more excited for 5. It looks amazing.

In the next month, four different games from XGS will be released
- The Bard's Tale Trilogy (August 13)
- RAD (August 20)
- The Bard's Tale IV: Director's Cut (August 27)
- Gears 5 (September 10)

We can already look at how much games we will be seeing for Xbox/PC once these studios are in place for next-gen

They will. And someday we’ll move on. We’ll get older, look back and talk about the plastic wars like Obi Wan made the Clone Wars sounds mysteriously cool during the original Star Wars movies. But us gaming vets will know better. For today, some people can relish in the plastic wars for a little longer.
