I'm really curious. When push comes to shove, what Forza Motorsport 8 at 4k/60, 1080/120, with RT support will look like with ultra fast loading times will look and feel like. If anyone will even notice.

I mean because honestly, how sick is this launch going to be for pre-existing users. Especially users who are on Windows too? I'm getting Halo Infinite, FM8, and probably one second party game - probably all on game pass for free at launch. You know how crazy that is? Sony will come out at $500, with exclusives totaling probably 60-120 additional dollars (and peripherals too).

I'm also excited for the uprezzed versions of Cyberpunk and Avengers and the new Assassin's Creed. I am honestly expecting a gameplay demo of Hellblade 2 at the reveal event and a release date in Spring 2021. I'm pretty thrilled with the prospect of next gen. Curious if the SSD from Seagate will go as low as 120 or if they'll do 150. Doubtful it will hit the $200 figure I've heard people predicting.

Jee willickers, I LOVE the xbox ecosystem.

It stinks that Halo probably won't get a resetera logo since it comes out the same day as the new console itself.

I'm interested how Xbox one X version of Halo Infinite will look compared to BF 5, Battlefront 2 and Destiny 2. Hopefully beta will be available in May.

I'm really hoping it is a tentpole example for how good ray tracing can make games look. Considering it's a tentpole game with massive resources behind it while the number of things happening on screen will be happening on OG Xbox One, there should be a lot of available resources to pour into ray tracing.

Yeah. I wonder if 4A and Remedy will add RTX to Metro and Control for XSX version. And hopefully Control patch won't be timed exclusive for 3 month.

Legit the next exciting times for Xbox were the launches of Halo 2 and Halo 3.

Those were exciting times for individual games; Xbox as a brand and platform has never had this much pure potential on the horizon, it's just bonkers. Sure, we've had stretches where Xbox had good game releases, but momentum like this? This year and the next may be the start of Xbox's golden age.

Want to put in a plug for Age of Empires 2 DE. "Hidden Cup 3" is the largest AOE tournament in 20 years, and it's going on right now. 50k prize pool. T90Official has been streaming it on Twitch, it's had as many as 30k viewers during times I was following it.

I don't know if that's big or not in the streaming world, but 30,000 people watching a 20+ year old game seems pretty awesome. DE really brought back a lot of enthusiasm for the series - exactly what Microsoft was hoping for.

What this guy said, McScroggz. :)

Yup! Been enjoying it. 30k is pretty decent.

I wouldn't know. Have no inside info. If that is true, that is super disappointing and a huge miss by 343 leadership. They have to have known that they were lining up with the Series X launch and that ray tracing was a key component for at least 2 years. Even Coalition had small elements of it in their game. Ray tracing is the one thing that the mainstream can see. I'll be giving 343 hell if that's true.

IIRC 343i did mention raytracing support being part of their engine (or one of the things they wanted to focus on). I wouldn't worry too much especially with how 343i constantly brings up Slipspace as a "next-gen" engine.

Maybe the user was referring to no raytracing in the Discover Hope teaser?

Yeah and those individual games were the most exciting things about Xbox as a brand and a platform. That's changing now yes as I said in the rest of my post which you excluded for some reason.

Hi! I have got a question. How long is MS going to release XSX games for Xbox One also?

The answer should be "As long as it makes sense".

MS sure has the data that would show if a release for xbox one is necessary or not after 2 3 years.

Just don't be that guy thinking Xbox one is holding anything back. It is the other way around, Xbox one games will be just the worst version of a game in the future.

Oh man broken shitty ass games on XBO will be so cool. XSX/PS5 games will have like 99 on Metacritic and the XBO version will have like 25.

I guess weĀ“ll reach a point in which XSX games on Xbox One wonĀ“t make sense anymore.

Seems like I mixed up the release date for BE and thought it was on the 25th. I'll look into posting the OT later today (on the 21st which is technically three days before launch).

I prefer to imagine the devs optimizing for SSDs and absolutely screwing up the game for HDDs.

That is the only thing I am wondering about. One would assume that they will have at least one launch Titel to showcase the capabilites of the new console to the fullest or at least close to. So if they have a game designed with ssd in mind how do they manage it to run it on Xbox one? Might that the reason for Halo infinite to take so long this time because they create for ssd and hdd!?

I wish I knew the extent to which the difference makes in terms of development. I'm kinda just spit balling. Devs have never optimized for SSD in the past to my knowledge so I don't think we know the extent.

Also Halo took a long time because they created a crazy new engine and that can take years.

Agreed, Forza needs to add something because i found the last game kind of boring to be honest. I like the idea of what Gran Turismo Sport is doing online, feels much more competitive and realistic.

I do know they are working on new tyre physics so I think that's going to be the big chnage in the new Forza to give a lot better feel to the game.

What absolutely baffles me is the fact almost every legacy game will have a marked improvement in some way on Series X, yet on the other end of the spectrum PS5 won't have that effect on its legacy titles (far as I know anyhow). Makes me wonder just how much and far in advance MS planned this, amazing.

Oh man broken shitty ass games on XBO will be so cool. XSX/PS5 games will have like 99 on Metacritic and the XBO version will have like 25.

XCOM 2 will be one of the first games I'll want to test, that game chugged like nothing else.

Forza is pretty much guaranteed to showcase RT but probably something RT audio and make even advanced physics calculations for tire deformation etc. I also can see them doing more advanced real-time weather and day/night cycles. It will probably be the first 4k 120 game as well lol

Kaironaut very nice and detailed OP, pretty exciting going into a new gen especially with so many studios working on new projects. Gonna be excellent on both sides but I'm particularly interested in MS this time around since a lot will be new, and all created under the helm of Phil Spencer's version of Xbox.

With the amount of talent Xbox 1P has its hard to tell which studio will come out tops nezt gen especially when I comes to utilizing XSX, based on what we know so far, I believe PG games, T10, NT and TC will be the first Xbox devs to push XSX to its limits.
Backward Compatibility also need test and could have some game not supported for Series X

Of course every game will need to be tested especially when BC covers 3 generations of Xbox .( OG Xbox + 360 + Xbox One) plus enhancements. I doubt we will have any issues with BC on Xbox cos BC is a huge part of the Xbox ecosystem and Phil and co have stated this over and over again, current games and accessories will work on series X and besides Xbox has a very capable team handling BC, they pulled off some wizardry on Xbox One and it's obvious they will do same with series X.
P.S - aren't you the same user who just got his thread locked by the mods?. You trolling this thread now?
www.resetera.com

Xbox Series X / Xbox One backward compatibility also needs test !

At last, Xbox is also saying that the situation on Backward compatibility is the same as the PS5 one, needs test and could see some games being unable to work. While they actually confirmed "thousand of games being playable at launch", note they talk among all Xbox Classic / Xbox 360 and Xbox...

Hi! I have got a question. How long is MS going to release XSX games for Xbox One also?

Here is what Matt Booty said in Nov 2019

"As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices"

So if we take him at his word that takes us up to Nov 2021.

Would be very unfortunate. I mean your system does RT and by the looks of Minecraft pretty damn well too. It's been years since your flagship franchise released on your system, now is the chance to show off that goodness!

IIRC 343i did mention raytracing support being part of their engine (or one of the things they wanted to focus on). I wouldn't worry too much especially with how 343i constantly brings up Slipspace as a "next-gen" engine.

Yeah, DF did remark there was no sign of RT in that video last year. But I guess things van change within a year? Sure hope so!

I prefer to imagine the devs optimizing for SSDs and absolutely screwing up the game for HDDs.

Hopefully right form the start man. Sure, Halo and Forza(?) aren't exclusive to XSX but I sure do hope they optimized these games for the SSD. Worst case scenario they aren't and they are like State of Decay 2 loading times (assuming here) which is still pretty damn sweet.

Yeah, I'll be there with you on that. To me they can't have used up five years of development and not implemented such a major technique. To me it should have a look and feel of next gen as a flagship title.

Hmm...I'm not sure but here's to hoping because it would seem like a major misstep.

Would be very unfortunate. I mean your system does RT and by the looks of Minecraft pretty damn well too. It's been years since your flagship franchise released on your system, now is the chance to show off that goodness!

Hell yeah. I'm gonna write it off as the person I read that from speculating and hope for the best.
