This is the second update in quick succession where my console has failed to update properly and is now showing E100. Now I'm in the "keep restarting until it finally works" phase. This will get really annoying if it's a common occurrence, it didn't happen until recently.

Are they getting less careful with the QA of updates before they go out, or should I be concerned there's something up with my console if it keeps failing to update properly?

I think my console is well and truly broken this time. Just restarts to an E100 error every time. So far I've tried:

  • Multiple 'Restart this Xbox' attempts - just returns immediately to the Something went wrong screen
  • Offline system update (although now I read this doesn't work in the preview program which explains why it didn't work for me)
  • Reset this Xbox keeping files - restarts straight to E100
  • Reset this Xbox and remove everything - restarts straight to E100
Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try before I look at getting the console repaired? It's out of warranty but I'm not happy at having to pay to fix it when the issue was caused by an update.

Do you have a Kinect plugged in?

Thanks. I posted there and /r/xboxone also, but it seems from all the replies there and here, I'm out of luck and the only option is to send it in for repair. MS want over £200 for an exchange so I'm reluctant to do that. Need to read up more on the EU 2 year warranty and see if I'd be covered under that, as the standard 1st year was up in January, but it's still within the second year.

I don't unfortunately, thanks for the tip though. I tried unplugging my external HDD and restarting but it still wouldn't go past E100 sadly.

Assuming you've been doing the missions and are eligible (or however that works).

Go to the main page of the XBox Insider Hub App.
There, next to one of the pins, you'll see "Console in preview Beta(?) Click that.
Should bring up new page, click manage. There, you should be able to pick which group.

Looks a bit different to how it did last time.
Really wish they'd stop changing the home screen over and over and would just add more features instead.

They moved the Games and last used app down like 200 pixels and removed the "Discover" title.
Because during the test people didnt like that.
We were used to the last used being lower down, and nobody wanted that "Discover" text to be there.

Its literally the reason we are in the preview program....to give feedback on stuff....if they just released and didnt take into account user feedback half the point of the program is wasted.
You do know thats the point of the program.....not "get features early", we are basically unpaid QA.

Its not even much of a changed.

Like Black_Stride said, it's an Insider Program where they want users feedback.
Insider builds can have problems, break game/device support (I could play Forza 6 with my wheel on certain builds a few years back) and changing UI elements.

If you don't want all that and just the features earlier, switch to a higher ring like Beta or Omega and you'll only get almost finished features before general release.

They could also just never have done that Insider Program and just updates all consoles in a few months with a new UI experience and you would have never known all the versions they went through. If you chose to be an Insider, then you have to deal with it, or you leave/switch ring.

I sometimes wanted to change ring as it broke things, but I accepted it and waited for updates. And the more important thing is to give feedback and report bugs, I saw one of my screenshots from a bug report being posted on their Twitter account as they wanted to get more reports on a graphical glitch I had.

You've both misunderstood me, I'm not complaining they're polishing the new dash instead of releasing it straight away. I'm saying rather than getting a new dash every single year they could be putting those resources elsewhere. Really don't appreciate the condescending explanations, IT is my job I'm more than aware of the process.

Man, I wish the first page/ home screen would be free of all these icons so we can see our background properly.

Just have my apps and games and the rest as icons vertically on the side or something.

Nope, it's not there. Almost 2 years as an Insider, level 16 or something. It just allows be to get into the Beta ring and that's it.

They do both and still do adding features at a better pace than the others so what's the issue?

From 'quake area to big OH.
Not sure if it's preview related, but my X1X cannot connect to internet.

0x800713AB

Finally got connected, but the worst way. The wireless setting screen kept crashing. So I forgot network. Then when I went to type password I had apc keyboard paste command pop up.

And trying to type this with android app didn't work. The keyboard kept disappearing.

All About Xbox Insider Preview Rings - Xbox Wire

All about the Xbox Insider Preview Rings: In June of 2018, we announced the addition of the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring to our existing Xbox One Update...

The Alpha ring and Skip Ahead invites typically go out to people who are consistent with answering surveys, rating things and occasionally reporting things as they come up. As long as you're active you should see an invite come around the next time they need to fill spots.

When did the "reminder" setting get added? I just noticed it.

It didn't work right for me though. I set it to pop after 1 hour. Nothing showed up until I quit a game. Then it said I played for 3 hours.

I got the new dashboard in the Beta ring tonight. Weird that it didn't take a system update, it just appeared when I booted up. It's going to take some adjustment not using the LB/RB buttons to access the Store and Community tabs.

Hope it fixes the sleep mode it just doesn't work right now.
How ? Are games crashing or closing ?
How long do you let it sleep ?

I put my console to sleep while a game was launched yesterday night after the update, I'll see if it's still up.

But as there's an update almost every day in the Alpha Skip Ahead ring these days, expect the console to update and reboot over night often (thus closing games).

A few hours and then when I boot back up they've closed, first time I've ever had issues with a dash preview.

A few hours and then when I boot back up they've closed, first time I've ever had issues with a dash preview.
So I went home and just tried, woke up the console and Crash Team Racing was still launched and working well.
It was sleeping for more than 12 hours and there was no console update during that time.
It even downloaded a few game updates.

I'm on the latest Alpha Skip Ahead build (updated yesterday).

From 'quake area to big OH.
When I booted up, it said Xbox Events was updating. I didn't even know that was an app, but when I tried to manage it said not found.

Also, all these hdr and wireless issues are bollocks.
