Starts at 50 sec.

5:05 cold boot + login test
Summary

Watch Dogs Legion
To get to the main menu
PS5: 21:25
Xbox: 24:32

To get into the game
PS5: 23:42
Xbox: 26:27

Dirt 5
To get to the main menu
PS5: 23:51
Xbox: 26:27

To get into race
PS5: 19:20
Xbox: 14:09

Valhalla
To get to main menu
PS5: 15:42
Xbox: 40:30

To get into game
PS5: 11:34
Xbox: 12:16

Valhalla had three extra splash screens on the Xbox boot to get through. Potentially a first time boot/showing of certain splash screens and it had been booted before on PlayStation.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate Watch Dogs Legion for giving us just a bit more time with our much beloved loading screens before they're gone for good this generation.

Xbox seems slightly slower. Very interesting to see differences in optimized games.

Edit: There are extra splash screens in AC: Valhalla on Xbox for some reason. I think it's the first boot on the Xbox, while it has been booted before on the PS5.

Edit 2:

PS5 vs. XSX

Watch Dogs initial boot: 21:25 vs. 24:32
Watch Dogs save file load: 23:42 vs. 26:27

Dirt 5 initial boot: 23:51 vs 26:27
Dirt 5 race load: 19:20 vs 14:09

AC Valhalla initial boot: 15:42 vs 40:30 (Xbox has 3 extra splash screens)
AC Valhalla save load: 11:34 vs 12:16

Console cold boot: 24:11 vs 19:13
Loading new profile: 3:37 vs 8:48
Booting from suspend: 5:55 vs 2:46

That difference in AC Valhalla is nuts.

Edit: nvm the Xbox has more splash screen logos for some reason.

Mostly the same, just AC Valhalla with big difference 15 sec PS5 vs 40 sec XSX

Ultimately, I don't expect cross gen or 3rd party games to show off loading differences. Differences will probably be fairly minor (Both significant improvements from last gen). I'm surprised some are in fact different. Makes me wonder how much optimization is involved to take advantage of extra speed.

Interesting that Valhalla booted much faster on PS5 whereas everything else is either Xbox favored (in-game) or PS5 has marginal advantage (3 seconds ish advantage on game boot).

Quick Resume tho kinda defeats a lot of that boot slowness

They make Spider-Man's loading times (or lack of loading times) look even more impressive.

The initial load for AC Valhalla is the only thing that stands out. Everything else is insignificant.

Very close but something is fishy about that assassins creed boot especially since the XSX is only 1 second slower loading gameplay?

So a complete wash really, other than a bizarre long load for Valhalla to load into the main menu on Xbox.

I think ps5 in general skips the splash screens after seeing them the first time. Very useful. Can almost quick resume on startup in a way.

I'll add these to the OP if you don't mind.

Really surprised to see the XSX not only keeping up so well, but also winning in some cases (00:05:11 faster loading into Dirt 5 Rally Raid race). I'd have to image this flips when the games become more CPU than SSD bound.

Definitely not a good representation of Valhalla for this comparison, as the game completely skips the splash screens on PS5, but not on Series X.

It's a complete wash. And the AC Valhalla has 4 additional unskippable splash screens on the xbox, making that comparison worthless. Loading into the game is virtually identical.

MS' backwards compatibility mode must be crazy good because those games load so much faster on my Xbox than PS5, but with new gen games PS5 is kicking ass. Thanks for the video.

Edit - actually new games don't seem that much different. Didnt notice that AC had more load screens on XSX.

Valhalla has a few extra splash screens on series x for whatever reason. Ps5 seems around 10% faster and is slower in 1 instance. Why is this with the far more faster ssd. Seems very little.

Dirt 5 race loading seems "slow". Using a MP600 nvme on PC my race loading is 9 seconds compared to the 19 seconds on ps5

I just did a quick test for Valhalla load On my series X to title screen. Clocked at 26 seconds with included Logos.

About what I expected, unless the games are trying to take advantage of the PS5 SSD, they are going to be pretty similar. I'm actually surprised the Xbox was faster on the one thing, the Dirt 5 race or whatever. It was like 5 seconds or so as well. Interesting.

So fanboys on both sides are eating crow -

Sony fans: turns out XSX's SSD is comparable and there should not be any games that are possible on PS5 but not on XSX.

Xbox fans: turns out PS5's power is comparable to the XSX and both will offer similar level of graphics performance.

There was never going to be a huge difference. A difference will likely manifest itself over the next couple years but unlikely to be big.

Series X competing very well in terms of loading times. Almost tempted to say its "punching above its weight". šŸ˜€
I'd say it's more like "the gains of the XSX GPU and the PS5 SSD were both very exaggerated". The differences that people have been arguing about for months look like they're going to be immaterial. Owners of either console are going to be VERY happy with their choice.

Whoops, already stated:
