Great engineering by the ms guys. Getting all that in such a smal form factor must have been tough

hmm, youtuber took a flir to Series x and measured 60 C I believe. This was on Gears 5. Not nearly as low as claimed here, but not alarming.

timestamp around 5:50 for temp gun

looks like gears 5 being more demanding may be the difference.

But RDR on 1x is probably pushing the console to it's limit. For series X it is probably not even breaking a sweat because it's so much more powerful.

It's amazing how they managed to make a far more powerful console that is quieter, cooler, and consumes less power than its predecessor. That's some top-notch engineering from a mainly software company.

This is important to remember, this is the series X pulling 128w, expect much closer to 200 when running a series X game.

Cooler, quieter, and less power draw than the One X?

Holy shit.

RDR2 on Xbox One X is a current gen game that was released at the end of the generation that pushes the system to its limits and beyond.

RDR2 on Xbox Series X is a last gen game that doesnt stress the system.

A true and fair comparison wont come until the Xbox Series X has a real next gen game that pushes the system to its limits, which might not happen for a year or more.

Yes this. I'd like to see the results with a Series X game. Not that I expect bad things, the One X was quiet enough for me.

This.

RDR2 on One X vs a next-gen game on Series X will be the more interesting comparison.
Meh. How would such a comparison even work if you can't compare the consoles with the same game? There are some very demanding this-gen games (like RDR2) that will be more demanding than some "next gen" games, so such comparisons will be unscientific, to say the least.

Better than the X? Good shit MS...

All those "concerns" can finally be put to rest, lol.

This.

Hard to make that apples to apples though.

Maybe a game that's getting a next-gen update. E.g. Destiny on One X vs the Destiny next-gen build on Series X.

Running a sample of games on One X vs a sample of next-gen games on Series X might alternatively give a rough idea of how games 'on average' consume power on each etc.

I expect we'll get all of that in due course.

The problem with this test is that it's a game running in backwards compatibility mode (CPU isn't being used nearly to its maximum and not using all of RDNA2's features) and with a game still with its 30fps frame cap, so the GPU isn't used significantly more than it was for the one x aside from fixing frame drops, which is why we are seeing oddities such as using lower power consumption despite having a larger PSU etc, a better test will be AC Valhalla or WD Legions during launch as one is running at 4k60 with visual improvements and another is running with Ray tracing enabled in an open world.

It's not about comparing the same game but the same (or close to) load relative to the consoles (as in really pushing both consoles, not just the One X like in this comparison).

I feel like people should test it on Hitman 2 or Sekiro, where the consoles have actually been shown to be reaching GPU limits (as evidenced by the dropped frames) rather than in RDR2 which rarely (at least that I noticed) dropped frames on X1X and definitely wouldn't on XSX.

The heat problems were a bunch of FUD anyway though...

Those are some nice improvements compared to a much weaker last gen system. Only the standby power usage seems a little high. Thought these things used much less power in standby.

But unless you use a game that is available on both consoles, comparing their heat/noise stats will be pointless and not representative at all.

At least when you use one game, you can say for sure that such a demanding game as RDR2 doesn't even make XSX sweat. Obviously a different game might show different stats, but using two different games on different consoles for comparison will be completely meaningless.

So if you play XBSX for 2 hours a day...every day, and your power company charges you 13.26 cents per kWh (average), then XBSX will cost you $12.39 per year to run.

Still so impressed they got the real hardware out this early. Such a change from prior launches.

RDR2 is running the One X to its limit,
the Series X is probably far from full load, so this test is not very meaningful,
unless you can remove the FPS can on the SX to increase the load or something
