It has been incredible to see fans around the world supporting State of Decay 2 and we are excited to share that we have reached more than 2 million players in less than two weeks since our global launch on May 22. On behalf of the team here and our incredibly talented partners at Undead Labs, we want to thank the millions of fans old and new who have helped build such a strong community of players united in the fight for survival.

With so many players enjoying the game, we've seen some interesting trends and data since our previous milestone of 1 million players. So far, survivors have eliminated close to 2 billion zombies! We're also seeing lots of successful survivor stories. Last week, players tended to survive about three days on average, and as of note, we've seen players complete over 121,000 community stories and start brand new communities with a new map that includes extra bonuses to help kickstart their new survival challenge. This shows an incredible commitment to the game and we're excited so many of you are enjoying the rich survival experience that State of Decay 2offers.

We look forward to welcoming even more players into the world of State of Decay 2 and continuing to support our growing community with further content updates and downloadable content in the future.

Those numbers are meaningless with the "free on gamepass", I would love to see the actual selling numbers

Great news for the game. Loving it myself, hope they continue to expand on it.

20 GB patch the other day seems to have helped performance.

Very impressive numbers! Happy to see indie devs find success.

Lmao at you guys joking about gamepass numbers. Don't you put that evil on this thread, Ricky Bobby! I've heard that if you say "free trial" 3 times while looking in the mirror, you'll summon a legion of haters to shit up your thread.

Sea of Thieves had two million players a week after launch and sold through 1 million units during that time. So no matter how you want to spin this, SoD2 will have sold a million units by now, without game pass.

Game Pass subscribers are definitely contributing to those numbers. Every new game released on Game Pass going forward is going to have a couple million players. It's a feature.

If State of Decay 2 can do it, imagine what Halo 6's player count would look like.

Triple that at least.

The game pass trial jokes are almost as bad as Pachter jokes at this point.

OT, gamepass is doing it's job here here. It's a great service, and although it's not my sort of game, it's good to see SoD 2 pulling big numbers.

I love how everyone is mocking the "oh but they are all trials/game sharing" thing and then:

we get this comment lol

I played the game for 4 hours at launch and never touched it again. Not my type of game tbh.

2 million again? Magic number for GP games. Waiting for Crackdown numbers.

Source about one million sold units?

Great to see the continued success of new game releases on Game Pass. It's going to be so helpful for Xbox first party going forward.

I never expected to like it considering I was not interested in "yet another zombie game". However, thanks to Game Pass I already put over 20 hours in the game and I haven't even traveled to the other maps yet.

Addicting game loop. I'm even considering buying it once my Game Pass runs out.

Which is a perfect reason to check out game pass. I only put a few hours into the first game and did not like it. With game pass I have easily put 20 + hours in a few days.

Really great game. Janky, but no other game gives you those The Walking Dead survival group vibes, not even Telltale's games. Every time you leave the door you know you could be losing a lot, causing potentially nearly unfixable damage to your group. You never feel unbeatable, failures come at a price, and sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. That's not something many games nail so well, so kudos to Undead Labs for delivering a very particular game. I'm sure some of the jank will be fixed with time, but until then it's already a really good game, definitely at least 8 on my scale.

This is incredible. Xbox gamers really don't care if devs release broken and/or unfinished games. Let's hope other devs don't take note...

Mod Edit: Stop quoting this post and derailing the topic.

Forza Horizon 4 will be the real test. Horizon 3 sits at 7.2 million players currently. And that's without Game Pass.

To be fair, I bought a Switch that same week and haven't touched the Xbox in a while (even if I have a shitload of games to finish) I will give it a second chance once I can play it with a friend.

Jup. And those are gameshared also.

Y'all spend more time with nonsense snark in these threads. At least let a knucklehead/troll set you up before you go cornballing. Ofc, old boy a couple posts down had to jump in too.

That aside. Good to see that SOD2 is doing well. Not a huge fan of the games, but dig the team for what they've done.

Awesome. Congrats to the team at Undead Labs. Lots of passion there. The great valued price point in addition to addicting gameplay and good word of mouth surely helps the game.

Serious question, would this not contribute to it significantly ?
Sure. It also "contributes significantly" to the money they are making though - especially with all the people who stay subscribed to the service or the $10 from people who probably wouldn't have touched the game otherwise.

Without sell through numbers, people will always question the true success of a game.

The game is legit good, I played it on a gamepass trial but ended up just buying it when the trial expired because I enjoyed it so much.

The game could've sold 1 copy and the rest being Game Pass users - Microsoft would be absolutely happy with this as they just got money from 1,999,999 million Game Pass subscribers - a good chunk of which will stay subscribed to the service.

Without sell through numbers, people will always question the true success of a game.

When Game Pass didn't exist, people would question sales because of game shares and taking back used copies when the high sales of a game didn't fit their narrative. Game Pass is just an extra excuse to downplay the success of certain products. Same old, though.
