Sega sure has no luck with this do they :( I really liked both Kanda and Nagumo, but those games were older while JE was newer (with the whole Hamura thing) so hopefully they'll not do anything drastic.

"Serious update" about RGG Online coming tomorrow. Its not exactly been a huge smash, so who knows what this means. Chapter 20 of the story was just released as well, and it doesn't seem like they are close to finishing it unless chapter 20 is several hours long and deals with the many lingering questions with the plot.
Oh, and it looks like they've got Mine in the game, yay!

Results of the survey
*ave.age 36
*gender ratio male 80%, female 19%, other 1%
*85% of players have played the main series
*fans don't feel this is RGG but they enjoy the story & Ichiban's character

Even though Sega wanted to get new players with online, it turned out that most of the players were RGG fans after all. So from now on, they will listen to the fans and try to satisfy them. They call this as reborn project.

With the September's update, the first part will end. The second part will start with the new protagonist, someone from the main sreise, later.

Also, Mine's content will be added and it tells you how he met Daigo, became a yakuza member and made his own family Hakuho-kai (Kanda's voice actor has been replaced already).

Found this on reddit:

lol, the end of that clip. The funny thing is the dudes kick totally reminds me of one that Kiryu has in one of the Yakuza games.

As always, thanks for the insight into this stuff :) I gotta say, I've been mainly just keeping an eye on the game for plot reasons, and I do agree that as of now I really like Ichiban's character, especially in the last couple of chapters. What does it mean with regards to the second part though (new protag, someone from the main series later)?

I really hope I can track down some footage/translation of the Mine stuff, as that sounds like a really cool story. I really liked him in 3, and seeing more of his plot (and Kanda) will be great. Glad they recast rather than removed Kanda though, I liked him in 3, so it'd be a shame to see him get changed (not like they really needed to change his appearance). Wonder what (if anything) will happen to Nagumo in future remasters/ports of 6 though.

Lol, something I just noticed in Yakuza 5 - Haruka's friend Akari is talking about Sotenbori and dance and mentions that apparently Osaka is where Breakdancing was introduced to Japan. That's actually really cool that 0 follows up with that when Majima is learning his breaker style. Never caught that before.

What they need to do for Yakuza Online is add the cabaret club mini game. And the clan mini game (or is that in already?)

Same here haha
You can visit hostess clubs in Online, but I think that's it? I've only really followed the plot, not the activities, which I'm pretty in the dark over!

I am in the dark as well but for everything that has to do with the story. Makes me wonder if we will get the same story as the game (as in same story beats).

Cool to hear there is hostess clubs. I remember I tought the idea was just a waste of time before playing Yakuza for the first time but they turned out to be really entertaining.

I do wonder about the story, especially with one plot chapter having basically 0 fighting gameplay, but basically being all about surviving on the streets. Plus there's the whole question over if Mayumi is even going to be in Shin RGG or is cut for the new girl that'll be alongside Ichiban. He does get some really good plot development in the last couple of chapters, so I'm excited to see how that translates over to the main console game.

Damn I can't wait to see Ichiban's story. It sounds amazing from the impressions and his backstory video I saw a while back right after they revealed him was really hype.

I wanted to watch the Yakuza Mobile story but at the same time I want to see everything in the main game.

I've spent SO many hours today on that Five Billionaires questline, holy shit. I think this is my favorite part of the game by far. I don't want to continue the main story or go back to Majima anymore. Can I just play a full game of Mr. President? :(

Marina best girl.

That Real Estate Royale activity was awesome. Some people didn't seem to dig it because of how long it can take, but eh I loved buying up all the properties and fighting the Billionaires.

I hope there's more interactions with Marina. Interviewing candidates was a lot of fun, and I loved even the small bits of Kiryu asking her not to read his letters to the radio show.

You have to look smart, Mr. President! Wear the glasses!

Agreed about buying the properties, it's my favorite part. Never imagined I would be into this kind of property management game, I wonder if I should try a game that is basically this all the way through.

Also got Quick-change Clothes thanks to the comment on the previous page, and it makes the combat SO much more fun. It does make it easier, but it's not like it was super challenging anyway.

I loved the plots with the 5 billionaires and club owners for Kiryu and Majima. Nice mini games that gave you a nice number of fights and some great dialogue/challenges to boot (while beating the Electronics King's Outrun score I ended up completing the game, which was an incredible run in itself!)

Only game I'd say has better activities/stories tied to them is 5. The mountain stuff in 5 is awesome, as is the taxi missions/races. Haruka and Shinada get plenty of great content as well, though Haruka's always felt a bit weird for me - since its the only one of the four that directly influences the story (as you have to participate in the Princess League stuff to the end, unlike the others where you can drop it after introduction if you wanted)/
Speaking of which, after a short Zelda break, I'll be getting back to Yakuza 5 this week with Haruka's part :)

Yakuza 5 is one of the best games in the series just because of these activities. The mountain and Taxi are my favorites of the bunch.
Makes me sad we never got an activity for Akiyama. I can imagine him having the cabaret club mini game if they ever make a dragon engine remake (which I doubt they will ever do).

Speaking of the cabaret club, I am going to have to go back to Kiwami 2 and finish that one. I saved it up to return later and finish the whole thing but I got busy and never did. I do love the throwbacks it had to Zero though.

I'd find it hard to believe they'd not cut content for an eventual remake. 5 almost had too much! That's why I never see a remake of 5 happening, it'd be a nightmare to get everything in (let alone add anything new) while making three new Dragon Engine cities, 4 new playable characters in the DE etc. Plus bar some draw distance issues 5 is pretty perfect as is. So slick and smooth on the PS4!

Akiyama would make sense to have something club related. I'd actually prefer they lean more on his money lending. GTA V had a thing with stocks, and Yakuza (and GTA) has dabbled with property purchases before, so that side of things would be a fun change. It would flesh him out nicely alongside some of his existing side stories in 5 which filled out his background nicely.

Other than having loading screens for the stores I agree with you that it doesn't need anything.
But yeah I tought about him having a money based activity. Something like Kiryu's property activity but more so tailored towards loans would fit.
They gotta bring Hana back if they ever give us a playable Akiyama though.

I can't wait to replay the PS3 trilogy. Just writing this made me have the itch to replay them (I already have them on PS3 and can fire it up right now) but I will wait to play them on PS4. Especially 3 which has tons of new (to me) content.

Yeah, Hana needs to be your advisor/office manager if A did get a "another drama" mode. She's too good to just feature twice on the phone in 5...
And the remasters are worth the wait, definitely the definitive way to experience the games now.

Yeah the larger side activities they started adding are pretty awesome.

I love how the rest of the game also fed into them. Side quests could result in getting a new hire for a position at your real estate business or a new draft on your baseball team in Y6. Loved seeing the goofy side quest characters come back and getting to use them. It also meant that side quests had a much better reward and draw than just some cash and xp.

I felt like this was missing in Judgment.

Yagami's side stuff were smaller stories/cases which I liked - tied in with the story nicely as I always felt I were taking on other cases to actually earn money while investigating the main case. That's my head cannon for things anyway. I wonder what Ichiban will end up doing...

Nah. One and done, if you lose you can't rechallenge them to those activities.

Yes! Finding everyone outside the building was SO cool! I love when games do that and gather everyone you helped in sidequests at some point.

Surprised I didn't get to hire the porn magazine kid's mom.

Yeah, his side cases were lovely. A lot of pretty high quality ones. Appreciated how they were often little bite sized investigations.

But like, I imagine I could have spent hours drone racing if they had thrown some little goofy emotional narrative over top of it.

I'd have liked a bit more variety in the VR stuff myself. A rival or three in the drone races would have been great as well for sure, that worked with Pocket Circuit and even Mesuking. Heck, even the arena in 5 gets a great storyline. Definitely seems like they missed a trick now you mention it.
I always wanted them to have more side stories tied to arcade games. 2/Kiwami 2, 0 and 3 all had side stories tied to arcade games (though 3's was cut in the remaster, because it was all about Answer X Answer).

Yep, just having a rival goes a long way.
I like a little context.

And yeah, it made a big difference for Mesuking which I wouldn't have played much otherwise.

Pocket Circuit Racer ended up being one of my favorite parts of Y0 as well.

Now that I think of it, maybe that turn based JRPG activity (if it is not just a joke) in Ichiban's game will feature the whole "do a sub story and friends will join your business" thing that Yakuza 0 did. That mixed with the Judgment way where you see them in the street later on would be awesome.

Also a mix of sub stories with the way Judgment did it (where characters might appear in other sub stories to help you) and the usual Yakuza where some sub stories are stand-alone would be great. That alone made Judgment feel the most alive game in the series because it felt like you would be one person living in a city with a bunch of people going around their business.

Judge Eyes side stories/friend events all tying together so nicely was fantastically done, especially the last few. Helps flesh the characters out and they were quality anyway, so double win.
Side story quality has been excellent for the last several games anyway, I think Ichiban's will be great. An RPG mode (or new clan mode) seems not too unlikely as an option. It'd take existing assets, could be fleshed out nicely, and while I don't agree with this - could be monetised in a similar way they've been lightly trying to do with the series since 6. So yeah, I can totally see it happening.

Chapter 20 summary of RGG Online now available:

So, as Gachapin mentioned earlier, looks like Ichiban's story is ending soon in RGG Online and someone else will be focused on. Kinda shocked, I assumed it'd be 100% Ichiban's story, so makes me wonder what Shin RGG will do. Glad we are getting news on the game within the coming months, so at least I don't have to wonder for too long!

Plot wise, this chapter had the twist I saw coming a mile away with
an Omi mole in the cops. Makes sense, else the rest of the plot would have the group hounded by the cops, this seems like a convenient way of having the police presence cease, just for a little while. Does cap off the last few chapters nicely though, with some cool character development. Also, lol at the rubber bullets call back!

Now for the ongoing question... just who the fuck is "X". Clearly they are a big force in the game opposing the police and Omi invasion, and the reveal is clearly being set up to almost certainly be someone known in the series. So thinking about it:

Gender is unknown, though with the teams track record, I see it being a guy, because if its not its either Haruka, Karou, the other Mayumi (lol) or Hana (oh how I wish this was true...)

X is elusive and is seemingly using Florist's cameras to monitor Ichiban. And said character is at the moment MIA (as mentioned in a previous chapter, he left before the Omi took over the arena. So he's in the wind. But Florist doesn't seem like the type to be in direct contact, it doesn't feel like his style. So who else could it be? Well, it could be an ex Tojo Clan member, who again are MIA at the moment. I think Daigo is in prison (his capture/dethroning caused the Omi to move in, but still, wouldn't put it past him), Saejima (he's been affiliated with Florist before, though again it doesn't seem quite like him to use cameras and tech) or... Majima. Majima who's had control of the camera systems before (Yakuza 2) and does seem like the kind of person to get involved. And Saejima probably isn't too far behind either. Its just a guess, but it adds up.
So yeah, can't see where the game goes next, and definitely can't wait to see what Shin RGG's announcements show.

So I've been meaning to post about this for the longest time since beating Yakuza 0 about a month ago and figured that this would be a good place to put my thoughts. I had a long drive from work one day and needed some music to listen to so I decided to listen to YouTube's random mix of Yakuza songs.... And MAN there are some real good songs throughout the series. Mind you my first and only Yakuza game I've played so far has been 0 on Steam (with Kiwami 1 and 2 in my library currently) but listening to some of the tracks a Karaoke songs has me pumped to play more and I cant wait to really dig into this series!

I just want to drop in here and say that even though I've only finished Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, I've been following this thread for months just because the "(No Remaster News Yet!)" title and eagerly awaiting if/when it changes as I'm craving more Yakuza (I'd really prefer to go in order of the series and leave 6/Judgement for the end).

With all that said, we're a few weeks away from the year anniversary of Yakuza 3 Remaster being released in Japan. In my naivety, I thought 2019 would be the "year of Yakuza" for me and we'd have all or most of the remasters released in the west at this time and I'd be able to go full bore into this series. Well, we're now past E3, Judgement's release and they're heavily teasing the next Yakuza series and we haven't heard squat about the remasters. Should we be getting worried that this might not happen? Or, have I missed some news somewhere along the way? (I usually just bop into this thread in hopes the title just hadn't yet been updated and X out immediately if anything comes near talking about 3-6/Judgement)

We are still in the dark so far.

If you are still itching for Yakuza then Judgment isn't really a bad game to play before 6. It is standalone with nothing connecting to Yakuza (aside from one sub story from Yakuza 6). There is also the fist of the north star game which is basically Yakuza but with you playing as Kenshiro in the wasteland.

The remasters are 100% coming over. Yakuza 3 being more work than 4/5 and Judgment taking up most of their localization/marketing focus has just meant it's taking a while. We'll probably hear some tease about it before the end of the year.

I listen to the soundtracks on a rotation all the time. For me, 3 is still the best of the bunch in terms of soundtracks, its just so damn good when it comes to boss themes. 6 I feel I under rated for the longest time as well, listening to that OST again made me realise just how damn good it is. 0, 1 and 2 are all excellent as well, and even though I don't quite like 4 and 5's soundtracks quite as much, they still have some fantastic tunes in there (4 has perhaps the best final boss musics in the series).
Ishin also deserves mention for how it remixes many of the songs in the series. Though you won't really appreciate them (or most of the fan service in that game) unless you can play 1-5 before playing it.

Precisely. You only need to look at the amount of work they put into Judgment's localisation to know that much have been an even more intense workload for the team than usual, guess it didn't help when the whole Hamura thing happened either...
3 needs to be retranslated not to mention the amount of cut content (doesn't help that some of the cut stuff is pretty intensive when it comes to text!), 4 and 5 need their scripts checked and changed in places - both of them use the word "tranny" at points (Akiyama in 4, and a cross dresser in 5 that is pretty important to Haruka's story/training) so those have gotta be changed.

I honestly think we're going to hear about Y3 within the next couple months. They definitely didn't want to muddy the waters prior to Judgment's lunch, but now that it's out I believe we'll hear somethin. No one quote me on this though.

Ready for that Y3 ost

Ah, Haruka's activities... there are too many repeating ones but after Kiryu and Saejima's chapters its just a nice relaxing pace to the game, at least until everyone's favourite money lender pops up (no, not Shinada's friend!)

Also, going on about 5's music, I'd forgotten how great Haruka's dance battle musics are. My only wish was that they made them harder, as someone who's put tons of hours into Project Diva, DJ Max and even a bit of Taiko Drum Master, these are sooooooo easy!

Hah, thanks for all the reassuring comments regarding the Remasters. It's kind of awesome how much Yakuza I'll have on my plate once these start being released as I really want to play them all in numerical order. I remember answering some surveys about Yakuza a while back and they asked IF the remasters were to be released here, if they'd package them all in to one thing or release each individually. I thought for sure since that they'd release each individually in Japan they'd do the same here...but now they've all been released in Japan and we have nothing confirming the date or the method of the release.

I personally think releasing all individually (physically) would be a harder sell. I know I love Yakuza 3 loads, but are most people wanting to buy that in 2019? Putting 3-5 together in a collectors edition or something. It'd be one of the most value filled collections out there, a good 300+ hours to 100% all three games. Who knows though, its hard to speculate when Sega remain silent on what's going on.

I think they were full price games in Japan at launch, so that definitely wouldn't slide in the West.

I'd be super in for a bundle release with all three. That could be why it's been quite a bit since we've heard anything on it.

I hope, if they do release a $60 product with all three, that they put out a deluxe edition this time too.

So I decided recently that this series is not self-aware in its silliness through sub-missions and mini games, but also its main story.

This is regards to the main story of Y0. I actually dropped it thanks to some contrivances I found in the story.

Namely

Makoto being the brother of Tachibana.

So that thing is, this series is intentionally soapy with its writing, isn't it? That has to be it. Really I'm just looking for an excuse to excuse the contrivances in the narrative so I can finish Y0.

I know the writing in Kiwami and K2 is comparatively weaker than 0, so...

The games are like J Drama's, so yeah of course your getting twists like that in every single game. I love it though, those kinds of reveals hit more than they miss.

Anyway, back to Haruka in Yakuza 5... Done a bunch more side stuff, I should probably forward the Princess League at this point, but the arcade is calling for me! Looking forward to playing more VF2 and giving Gunreihn a shot (been a long time since I played that one). Oh, and one nice thing as expected is much higher quality textures in a lot of Sotenbori compared to the PS3 version, not all perfect (the book store books) but on the whole it definitely looks a lot better, very sharp - and this is in day time, I can't wait for it to go to night time so the lights all come on...

Is there a place to read translated stuff on RGG online? Also, out of curiosity, what kinda game is it even? All I know is it's for mobile?

Dojima's Dragon Girl

Ryu ga Gotoku 24/7

This is the site I've been following, she's been posting up main story translations (though not the side stories each character gets) and its a great way of experiencing it without actually playing it.

As for the type of game, its a Gacha game - get characters, power them up, fight other characters, power yours up more, grind grind grind grind grind over and over to get new characters... honestly the game itself does't appeal to me, just the superb art and story.

Interesting to hear that the Shin RGG team shares many of the staff from Yakuza 0 and 6 and not Judgment. Makes me want to believe that the Judgment team is working on something different. Judgment 2? Something entirely new?

Yeah, they were working on Judgment for several years while the main team worked on the main games. Certainly makes you wonder what else they might be working on...
