Same place it usually is - in Purgatory. Which should be unlocked in chapter 5 (there should be a few story boss fights there). To reach it, go to the north eastern point on the map where the small park/rest room area is and go through the toilets to reach the Kamurocho Hills Construction site. Keep going through the construction site to find a staircase that leads down underground into Purgatory. Now just keep walking forward until you reach a fork in the road - on the left side will be the arena, right hand side is the casino.
Its worth noting that while most arena battles are unlocked through ranking up/finishing the previous tournaments there are two that can only be unlocked by meeting certain requirements in the story - such as finishing every single side story, or finishing the main story mode in Majima Construction. I only mention this because many people try grinding to Arena S rank which really won't unlock the last two arenas!

Just finished kiwami 1, as much as I liked it i feel like it broke something for everything it fixed from the original. Still super fun though!

Judge Eyes new edition will be out on July 8 @4,540yen
*Save files of the original version are not compatible with this edition.

So if you have the original version, your Hamura will not be replaced with the new model.

Well that's interesting, I assumed they'd just patch over Old Hamura. Is that not the case then? Is my launch copy safe?

Thanks for posting that interview, someone else mentioned it to me, its pretty darn cool. I really like Nagoshi, and that's for more than just the Yakuza series, Daytona is fucking brilliant as well as many other games he had a big hand in making. Definitely deserves more recognition in some circles for being more than just "that Yakuza guy". Him and Suzuki are responsible for making loads of my favourite Sega titles.

Thinking about Kiwami more in the nitpick thread on here I do think while its a fantastic remake its a pity that time/budget/ambition didn't have them go out and change/fix a few things with the game - mainly the Jingu fight not being shit would have been a huge improvement (strange they left it pretty much untouched aside from it maybe being a bit less bad thanks to the better combat/controls that 0's combat system provided).
I also have some issues with Majima, though not so much that they had him appear too much (though honestly they did), I loved his increased presence in the game however I felt that also undermined the gravity of his boss encounters (not to mention his new theme not being a patch on his RGG1 theme). Plus the new story scene with him before Shangri La felt forced and silly.

Its still the best version of RGG1, and one of my favourite remakes of all time but they could have done even better. Though it really was just a budget release while the main team was beavering away with 6. So all things considered it still turned out pretty great!

Yes, your copy is safe. It's terrible mess if you are forced to update the game and only thing you can do is to start a new game \(^o^)/

Ah good point, that'd be hilariously bad for me, imagine slaving away at Drone Racing and Puyo Puyo, being so close to 100% and then BAM! Save game no longer valid, Hamura just had a face lift and you gotta start the game all over again!

Speaking of Hamura, nice to see another Judgment thread derailed by people complaining about Japanese law... I sure hope the OT is actually about the game, not pointless whining.

Well, by my point I meant it seems like its company policy across the board to remove him, as Sega's not the only one taking this approach. Only difference in this case is they actually did something to get the game (re)released rather than have it lost forever. I don't agree with removing him, but at the same time I get why they did it. I'm just glad the game has another chance at selling, especially given that Sega has seemingly managed to get the game released in English on its proposed release date rather than delaying or even canceling it.

Yeah like there are things I absolutely love about the game like the quick style switches or the additional scenes with Nishiki. It just feels like such wasted potential that Kiryu's arguably most deep moveset is wasted on the worst roster of bosses in the series with reused movesets covered in super armor or invincible attacks that can hit him out of combos. And all the new scenes in Kiwami really highlight how ill fitting the original cutscene animations are for the new models when seeing a transition between the two, especially Kiryu's face and expressions. I agree on the new scene with Majima on the docks being pretty goofy too, its so out of character for Kiryu to just let Majima fall into the drink and be like "guess hes dead lol." If they wanted Majima to have the bandage on they should have just let him have it in all the Majima everywhere events following the batting cage.

Also what Kiwami made me really want was a game where you could switch styles on the fly as Majima, his movesets were so much more interesting in 0 than just light medium and heavy and id be doing a lot more than just switching from Brawler to rush all the time lol

It's a bit weird that everyone seems to be targetting SEGA on this when everyone else in the industry also erased Taki from their products. Granted this is a case of removing his likeness as well, but while I don't agree with the course of action taken, they would've stuck out like a sore thumb had they kept him and I don't think they were willing to do that for their product, it's not hard to see why. Until laws and social perceptions change, not much we on this side can do.

With little over a month until launch, this will come up again in the OT (unless a mod intervenes), count on it...Who is making the OT anyways?

Hopefully the whining will be drowned out by actual game talk. I don't want to have to see people raising the same tired drugs crap while I'm trying to read about the game especially as every JE news thread about it just turns into a drugs topic, as opposed to an actual Judgment topic, which sucks. And yeah, I agree that people targeting Sega specifically for this are being unreasonable (well, not the actual word I'd use, but its the kindest word!) as he's been removed from iTunes and even off the top of manhole covers FFS. So Sega replacing him in a game is not exactly shocking. What is shocking though is old versions of JE will retain his likeness, I thought for sure they'd release an update patch that removes him completely (it seemed like the most logical thing to do) but instead the new version is completely separate as Gachapin mentioned above. Which is cool, because it means I can play the original version on my PS5 (in the future) without having to worry about having him replaced!

Perhaps it's a comprise that Daisuke Sato was hoping for to not completely get rid of Pierre Taki's involvement. I'm disappointed that I didn't pick up an original copy before the controversy went down, but I had budget concerns and thought "oh this won't affect the release in the West where they don't give a shit about cocaine"...but turns out I was wrong. (That and I'm still not good with the Japanese language).

Maybe if the community comes through on the possible PC release.

and at that this point, I'd rather we all acknowledge Taki's existence/contributions even if official channels won't, instead of bogging down with yet another discussion about Japanese drug laws and social perception towards them...however ironic considering the game's setting.

This is the first summer in forever where I have a game each month that I'm desperately looking forward to. Judgment for June, Fire Emblem in July (the day before I go on a weeks vacation, too!); and Man of Medan in August. What a great hobby.

Looking forward to seeing the remastered Japanese Y5 in video form next month anyway. That game in 60FPS will be gnarly

So, i finished kiwami 1 and i am here to ask a question.
i had both kiwami 1 and 0 and started with kiwami first *hears groaning* but hear me out, i am not new to the series and familiar with the OG game plus its shorter .
Now i have 2 choices: going forward to kiwami 2 and keep the momentum plus its also shorter than 0
or going back to 0 ,experience the natural evolution of gameplay and graphics engine
heard that kiwami 2 is more connected to 0 but i dunno if its just substory and i can ignore it for the time being or it more central to the main story
help me choose which one to play first
note that i already played 3 and 4 , but its not relative to this i think.

Believe it or not, you're not really breaking any momentum going from Kiwami to 0. I know it's set chronologically earlier, but 0 is a pretty action-packed, dramatic story, and having more context on the background for these characters will only help going into Kiwami 2. There's also a big payoff in Kiwami 2's Majima scenario that you will only feel the impact of if you've played Yakuza 0.

If that's not enough to convince you, then I'll just say it plain and simple: Yakuza 0 is worth playing because it's (arguably) the best game in the series!

Hearing it's the best only make me want it to play it later, but if it is that connected to Majima story in K2 then that makes me want to prioritize it more, thanks!

If you decide to save it for later in the end, just don't play Kiwami 2's Majima scenario until you finish 0. It doesn't fully unlock until late in the game anyway, so it's easy to avoid.

Wait, what? I just finished Majima's stuff in Kiwami 2 and didn't notice anything that tied in with 0. It has been nearly 2 years since I played 0 though, so maybe I just don't remember.

Was pretty meh overall on the Majima chapters in K2. Mainly due to the fact that he has like 2 heat moves and no grab so there wasn't much variety to the fighting.

I mean, the
entire bits with Makoto and Majima is a direct sequel to 0. So playing it before 0 would be both pointless and ruinous to the other best part of Majima mini campaign (the other reason is the final boss intro and boss music, which is just plain epic)
.

I mean, you could do the super roundabout thing seeing as you already finished 3 and 4, and play through 2 and then 5 to appreciate 0 the most (seeing as it has nods to all 5 previous games in various side stories) but that seems rather silly in practice really as it just makes more sense to go 0, 2 and then 5 and 6 later.
Also, all the games are good, if you enjoyed Kiwami then you'd be bound to enjoy all the games. So saving 0 to last really makes little sense in that regard.

Makoto Makimura returns in the Majima Saga, and a sense of closure is given. People who haven't played 0 would have little idea of who she is, or her significance.

Ha, wow. I am concerned about my memory. I definitely remember that now, though. Thank you!
I think it confused me because I associate Makoto with being blind and she wasn't in K2. But if I remember correctly she even mentions it being psychological blindness or somesuch when giving the massage. That scene was fun, and it was nice of him to get her a new strap for her watch. It's touching how she brings out Majima's softer side.

So... any word on if these remasters are getting released in English? They've been quiet for so long
lol. Just kidding
.

Been really enjoying some Yakuza related music lately (as always). I've really started liking Kiwami's intro theme Bleed:

I've only played Kiwami through in Japanese once and kinda forgot about it, so its been nice listening to it again. Definitely a way better main song/intro song than the one that the localisation got. I still prefer Receive You though, and then, I think I really prefer the original RGG1 version of Receive You, just because its the series theme as a whole (there's always at least one "Receive You" song in any Yakuza game going by the track list, usually belonging to Majima.

The other song I've really been loving is this one from Judge Eyes. Its a super big spoiler though, so don't look unless you've already played the game:

Shin Amon. The baddest bastard in the entire game, such a great piece of boss music, goes together nicely with a batshit insane boss fight. Only a month left!

I completely agree! Yakuza music is so godly, recently I made a playlist featuring a ton of my fav tracks from across the series to play as background music while I play fighting games lmao

a big current favorite of mine is Butterfly City from 4 https://youtu.be/Luy73-vmEh4

im usually not too big on the vocal tracks but im captivated lol

Song wise in the series, I was always quite fond of the localised song for Yakuza 4 (which was used instead of Butterfly City) - For Faith (Vocal Version). But that's mainly down to me really loving the tune For Faith as a whole - it being used as the finale of Yakuza 4's fights just makes it sound even more epic.

Another I really like that I never really listened to as much for whatever reason is the song used for Yakuza 2's intro:

And what's even better is that someone in the team obviously loved it, as it shows up again with a new arrangement in RGG Ishin:

Ishin's main soundtrack is full of remixes. Receive You gets not one but two remixes for Okita boss themes (that's Majima to you folks!). Nishiki also gets a fantastic remix of his boss theme as well.

Also, another little Judgment vid showcasing English voice acting, this time showing off one of the most interesting characters in the game:

Just a month left now people!

I powered through and finished Yakuza 0 last night. I immediately Googled some questions I had about the ending:

Namely, Sagawa getting his comeuppance after Majima walked off. He was a huge dick who reminded me of Tom Cruise's character in Collateral but Majima still had respect for him. I was expecting Majima to slog him at one point but it never came. I do see how it makes sense that they have a huge amount of respect for each other because the drinking scene and the little details such as the quote about letting the dog out of the cage. Then I learned that Sagawa was one the people that had to fall because Shimano killed the Omi officer and wasn't able to deliver on Makoto selling the Empty Lot to the Omi Alliance. This is one of the dominoes that sets up Yakuza 1

Furthermore, I read through the Yakuza Reddit and realized that Makoto never once learns Majima's name which makes sense. It was bittersweet watching her speak to Majima without knowing who he was. But Majima was super cool about it.

As for Kiryu, so THAT's how he got the title of Dragon of Dojima. It was Shibusawa who had the dragon tattoo so it makes sense why he said there's only room for one dragon. I get why Kiryu decides to go back into organized crime and work for the Dojima family because as a fan of the series, I know hell that awaits to get in then try to get out again and repeat the cycle.

But because of his yakuza ties, it only ends destroying his loved ones' lives for the most part. It also looks like Kazama tells him to go back even though he could have been making a killing as a real estate agent. I like the little detail towards the end when he tells Nishiki that he's kind of broke now that he's back in the game. I noticed a hint of jealousy from Nishiki when Kiryu told him he joined the Dojima family instead of the Kazama family. I know Nishiki alludes to this a few times so this is one of the sparks that leads to the events of Yakuza 1. It's interesting that Nishiki reminds Kiryu of his humanity/moral even though Kiryu did kill a bunch of Dojima thugs that chased him, Makoto, and Oda. But LOL rubber bullets am I right?

Majima and Kiryu meeting with their iconic clothes made smile so much. Ending it with "Kiryu-chan" got a bit of a laugh from me but it was fitting: the Dragon of Dojima and the Mad Dog of Shimano finally meet face to face. And as I suspected, the Empty Lot does end up becoming the site of the Millennium Tower.

Regarding titles:

I was a tad bit disappointed that there weren't any cutscenes showing Kiryu and Majima getting their titles even though it was explained.

As a whole, I liked the more personal story of this game and Yakuza 1 before the story goes off the rails in later games (I still enjoyed 6 though several gripes aside). I think Majima's story was more interesting as Kiryu's story was par for the course but I liked the origin story of series mainstays. I plugged way more time into this game than 6 funny enough. But I think I'm going to put it on the back burner for a while as I usually do with Yakuza games before coming back to try to get most of the trophies.

I doubt I will go through the game on Legend or get everything in the Completion List but I want to at least finish all the substories (1 remaining for Majima and 3 for Kiryu---two are telephone mini game related plus the final substory). A good chunk of the things in the CP are RNG /gambling related which sucks. I'll probably get Yakuza Kiwami 1 at some point because I'm glad it's a much shorter game in terms of trying to do everything. Suffice to say, the localization was fantastic. I'm at 87.9% done IIRC.

Something I'm not understanding about a plot point in Y0

how did the person who killed Makoto's body double know about Lee's Idea to kill the body double?

Wait I'm an idiot, I thought Yakuza 5 had been released on PS3 AND PS4 in Japan, but only PS3 in the EU. Instead it actually was only ever PS3, the difference is that EU only got the digital version, not the physical.

Yakuza 5 is getting a June 20th release date in Japan for the PS4. Nothing else is known outside of its Asian release at this point in time.

Yakuza 6 is much shorter than the other games, isn't it? I'm in chapter 8, finished all the substories available up to this point (which is about half?), done plenty of other side stuff and I only have about 14 hours of playtime.

6 is the shortest to plat because its got the smallest amount of side stories plus you can use a exploit to just tackle the last fight again after beating the game to clear it on the hardest difficulty, rather than the whole game.
However, if your aiming for the in game 100% completion (no trophy, just for bragging rights) its still probably a 100 hour game. Aside from some pretty hard challenges (beat all Puyo Puyo characters, which means get a 30 game win streak) you also have some which take hours to clear (hit max level of spear fishing).

If we don't hear an announcement around E3, then I'd start to worry about the PS4 ports.
Judgment is out after E3. So no, I'd wait a few months after that release before starting to worry.

Trying to find an original print run copy of YK1 is proving to be a bit difficult. Some of the eBay listings are vague. But I found a listing on LetGo for $20 of the steelbook edition sealed. I just messaged the guy to hunt it down as it's a steal. I just hope the guy wasn't a former Gamestop employee who resealed it with a shrink wrap machine or knows someone. My friend's brother was a former GS employee and took a shrinkwrap machine with him when he quit.

That's not the same. 6 was due out at the same time as Kiwami 2's announcement, don't forget it was delayed for a month right at the last minute. People really need to relax and be a bit more patient, first its too much Yakuza too soon, but now its the opposite problem ;)
Also, remembering the early days of the series localisations vividly, you think a few months of working on getting Judgment ready (with the whole Hamura scandal to boot) is bad? Try going years assuming the entire series was canceled over here while multiple games get released in Japan.

Did not stop them from announcing Lost Paradise which was coming out a little over a month after Kiwami 2. Unless they have a tailored event where they can make the announcement, E3 seems like the best time for a fall release announcement including any of the ports (of which there is not much if anything from SEGA at the moment).

Unless, they do the Yakuza 2 route and make the announcement at TGS.

edit: wait, I'm wrong, there is the Space Channel 5 VR game for the fall, so it's not so empty.

During the second half of the year in the West, Sega has Catherine Full Body and the Sega Genesis Mini in September and then the Switch version of Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics late in the year, with Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 maybe somewhere in there, too. Definitely feels like they could get another release in the fall, though — I'm hoping for all three Yakuza remasters in one package.

I'm not counting Atlus' stuff though, despite them sharing the same US people, I'll give you the Olympic games on all platforms (not just Mario and Sonic), I flubbed on that. Along with whatever SEGA AGES product they're planning for that period.
