I see no reason to expect 6 before the remasters. They purposely released Kiwami 2 last year before 6, despite Kiwami 2 being released after 6 on consoles... I'd still guess the more likely reason is not wanting to canabalise on console sales by announcing the remaster ports early. Then they get the double dippers... at least that's the theory I'm sticking with. I mean that and it just makes sense to release them in order at this point, what with 6 being the end of Kiryu's story.

I don't see 6 coming next either. Remastered Collection on Steam i feel it's a given at some point and then 6. The real thing i wonder is if we will get Judgment next.

I finished 0 in January, officially a fan of this series now. My copy of the remastered collection should be here later today.

Meanwhile, I'm about halfway through Kiwami 2, and is it just me or is this combat kinda really not good?

Given the additional effort of dubbing the game plus putting it in new languages for the series it would be shocking not to put it on PC as well.

In Yakuza 0 is there any point in fishing outside of getting what is required for different side stories? Can you sell the fish or anything?

I never really bothered with fishing. I know you need to do it for the completion list, but if you're looking to make money, there are far more lucrative methods.

Fishing is a great way of making money in the series, but as Aurc mentioned its pointless in 0 because doing almost anything else pays better. In Kiwami, 3 etc. its a decent way of making money because Tuna's pay out big bucks. Also, if your modding weapons, fish in any of the games are sometimes used in staff or cannon weapons so again, worth getting if you want a goofy frozen Marlin stick.

Otherwise its just for the completion lists, so basically for people like me to obsess over.

Still in Chapter 4 of Yakuza 1 HD. I love the dated mechanic of chapter specific fail-able sub stories

yea, glad they stop penalizing severely for failing a substory, particularly locking you out of certain things like the underground casino or Amon.

In 1 - apparently you can get into the Underground Casino even if you mess up F Cup, someone, somewhere told me that you can get the info from a hostess.

2 was really bad for some of its side stories - with one being this surprise/timed party that if you don't reach the location within a few seconds you fail and are locked out of Amon...
Kenzan also has the issue where one side story won't trigger (and can be missed) if you have certain items in your inventory when speaking to the inventor, this scewed me out of Amon in Kenzan, still mad about it now!

Yakuza Kiwami 2. Couldnt play the game for over a month Earlier was looking forward to complete many things like Majima Construction & Cabaret Grand Prix storylines, bouncer missions, few remaining substories, haruka's requests, photoshoot etc but now because of the break just lost interest. Finished the main campaign though. Loved the ending, except...
The final fight with Ryuji ends with a f***ing QTE. You fight him for 10-15 mins(normal difficulty) and if you miss that one QTE, its insta death, WTF!! It was so frustrating and senseless.
On to Majima saga now.

I saw Sonic The Hedgehog last night and seeing Kiryu in the Sega Sammy logo of key mascots made me smile. One of my friends in the group not so subtlely shouted out "Hey! It's the Yakuza guy!" There were kids in the audience but they didn't get the reference for obvious reasons.

For me, it was the inverse. I did a TON of side stuff in K2 which made the final setpiece a joke when I got around to it. steamrolling Ryuji and Terada with an infinite weapon was hilarious. I felt like a speedrunner since the fights were over in about 3 minutes tops. But I still have some side stuff I need to do like finish the last couple of Majima Construction missions and final Bouncer mission, a bunch of other grindy stuff for technique books, Haruka requests, and getting bingo in golf (ugh). The Gravure stuff is so cringey but it's a staple in every Yakuza game at this point.

A word of advice on the Majima Saga stuff: Use the cheat items to gamble for money since money made in MS transfers over to Kiryu. Items do not transfer at all.

Yeah, damage output in Kiwami 2 is over the top, one heat move does stupid amounts of damage. I wish my final fight took several minutes... As pretty much every boss in that game was over in a couple of minutes tops. Which is completely at odds with how much health they get on the PS2 version (way, way more, makes for better fights). That said, the new engine makes the Shindo fight so damn badass. Guess you take the good with the bad!

Been 2 months since I finished Yakuza 0 (which I jumped into immediately after Kiwami 1, I know I know out of order but I got 1 with Humble and fell in love there) and I think I'm going to buy and play Kiwami 2 now. This series has become a fast and hard love, but I definitely needed the break after the first two I played.

Seriously, I love Saejima Karaoke in 5, never fails to crack me up. Also make sure to have Kiryu take Haruka to do Karaoke in Premium Adventure mode as his interjections with some of Haruka's songs are absolutely hilarious.

This just gave me my very own flashback, haha. Saejima really is a great support in karaoke.

My remastered collection physical copy finally arrived, so i took a picture of my whole collection so far. My physical collection back in 2015 was just 1&2HD Yakuza 3 & Yakuza 4 and it has grown so much since then.

Basically getting right toward the end of Yakuza 7... I'm only on chapter 12 but I've basically done all the side stuff possible for the completion list... its bizarrely compelling even if its technically completely optional this time (though its the best way to level up Ichiban's human stats, no grinding required)
Finished all the Ijincho Mahjong tables yesterday, the high roller table didn't really feel all that much harder to other tables... took a few tries to clear it but all round the AI didn't really feel that much more challenging than other tables, especially as more often than not I was getting pretty great hands... Kinda funny that no matter what, its Mahjong and the arcade that manages to always steal the most time away from me game after game, despite really not changing that much from one sequel to the next. Koi Koi is probably my distant third favourite, because once I picked it up, it is actually super satisfying to get a super good hand (and in 7's favor, you don't have to unlock difficulties like earlier games, which was more annoying than anything)... I miss Ceelo and Cho Han though.

Oh, and Zhao's "Devil's Hell Pot" Karaoke song might be my favourite song & video in the game. Can't stop listening to it. Speaking of Zhao... I'd really love for him to appear in Virtua Fighter 6 above any other character, the fact they give him a range of martial arts moves makes his attacks flow really nicely in this game, plus they wouldn't need much work to implement him, since he'd just be a clone of Akira for the most part...

I sure hope your planning to get the PSP games next! I've been revisiting their plots this past week and I'd forgotten how good 1's got toward the end - and I just love 2 as a whole, its one of the best in the series that few have played :(

They are on my get list (Alongside the Wii U version of 1&2 HD). Been trying to get them for a while but one thing led to another and i never got around to them, i suppose one day but it's not a priority right now.

Amazing. My collection is basically every game that came to the west from Y3 onwards.
How did you get separate PS4 cases for 3,4 and 5 remastered?

I need to up my game collecting the English releases, only have a copy of 4 physically in English. Everything else japanese, which I may have to replace as a few are garish The Best Releases.

Slowly making a dent in Yakuza 1's trophy list. At chapter 7 now and I think it's best to get Haruka's trophies out of the way.

Good luck on that baseball one... its evil I tell you! I really need to do another run on the HD Collection because the more I think about OG2 the more I want to play it. Its such a badass game, and still damn playable even today. If I weren't gonna replay Kenzan next the HD games would absolutely be top of my list... well, maybe Dead Souls now I think about it...

seen Majima's running animation in his summon for Yakuza 7. He Naruto runs down the side of a building. Please never change Majima!

How do I get the Hostess sub stories in RGG1 to start? I have the full 10 hearts with Aya but is there a reason she isn't texting to start the date?

In Chapter 7 (evening time ) if it makes a difference

I honestly forget how to start dates in RGG1... basically I usually do the following if its not triggering - can you go to the hostess club and request the girl? If so, somethings wrong. Do you have both her cards? Or is all this stuff things they add in later games...

Anyway, I saw this posted and thought it was pretty cool:

UK Charts: PS4 exclusives Yakuza and Dreams crack Top Ten

A collection of remastered Yakuza games was the biggest new physical release in the UK last week.Sega's PS4 exclusive d…

So this is physical only, and its not as if UK physical is enormous, but its kinda hilarious seeing the remaster collection bested only by the two biggest games of the moment. Kinda crazy when you consider just 5-6 years back we were still waiting for any news on Yakuza 5! Now we have a remastered version and apparently not selling badly. Kinda curious as to how the remasters end up selling outside of Japan, as in Japan they didn't set sales charts on fire - then again remasters (at least of Yakuza) never do over there. There might be a good chance that the games sell better outside of Japan...

It's UK chart so it's more about people getting hyped about the position than actual sales number.

I would say the Korean and HK PSN sell way more copies of RGG than UK.

We never got numbers from those PSN locations so while I don't doubt they did better than Japan, I can't say for sure they definitely did well, unless I missed something sales numbers wise. And we already know the remasters in Japan did pretty small numbers going by the Media Create first sales numbers, so its really not that much of stretch to assume the remaster collection didn't do that bad in the UK by comparison. I mean, I'm not saying they sold tons, but hey, placing 3rd is damn good for a series that was dead over here half a decade ago. The remasters are kinda doing their job over here - exposing more people to chapters of the games they missed previously (while that's not much of a draw in Japan since they actually cared about the series first time round).

Get a text message to start the date as soon as I start walking around with Haruka. All of her requests done apart from the dreading Batting Cages. Best I've done is 14 Homeruns out of 20.

Also the Pachislot request took over an hour to do.

What's the Pachislot request? Get 777 tokens? I certainly can't imagine it being fun either way. Speaking of slots though, the slots in Yakuza 7 ended up kinda being fun for me, thanks to the cheat items being purchasable. I mean, its still my least favourite mini game but I appreciate being able to play them without spending hours trying to get a jackpot.

You need to earn 3000 tokens.

I loved them in 7 too, mainly due to the fact it had a Fist of the Blue Sky machine.

Gimme a new spin off based on that please!

Fist is definitely the better of the slot machines in 7. The little cutscenes you get as you play are really cool, and I do like the focus on battles during the jackpots for further points. I still prefer the VF Pachinko machine though, that was a well designed machine with some cool jackpot modes (once you hit a jackpot that is!)

Watching the Netflix Dragon Quest movie. Immediately noticed the introduction voice sounded familiar. Then the character showed up and I had to look it up.

The character is voiced by the VA of Namba. The connection between 7 and Dragon Quest never ends!

Yakuza 5 remastered looks and plays so nicely. Finally hopping into it a bit. I forgot how endearing Kiryu's cab driver boss is. Still, kinda rushing because I wanna get to the Saejima parts. Just so good and funny. Plus I love the snowy setting and I've been dying to see how it looks after the glow up!

Almost done with Yakuza 7 now, should be able to finish the game this week assuming none of the late game bosses become impossible to beat (I'm already wonderfully overleveled as it is!

The story (without spoiling anything) is quickly turning into my favourite in a very long time. That's mostly thanks to Ichiban being such a damn good character, plus the main antagonist(s) in the game being set up in a really good way. I cannot wait to see where the last couple of chapters go. The rest of the support characters are great as well though I wish some got more screen time.

And gameplay wise, its so nice that modding actually feels like its worth a damn again - the older main games it felt mainly pointless due to weapons breaking pretty fast at times, while Dead Souls, Kenzan and Ishin made them more central points in the game with better weapons that had more permanent effects on the game - getting better armor and weapons for your party in 7 is well worth doing, and not a grind since all the materials are easy to get and money isn't exactly difficult to come by.
