First Yakuza game right? Because the mini game thing is totally where I fall down as well, always getting pulled away to play Snowball fighting, becoming an Idol, side stories, mahjong etc. in Yakuza 5. Casino stuff actually got me to care about learning the rules and hands to Poker or learning the best ways to draw, stand and double down in Black Jack. Also, it taught me how to play Koi Koi and other Japanese gambling games, which I rather enjoy now!

As for the money senders:
Kiryu you need to go into Bar Vincent (I think that's the name). Its in the North East corner of the map in Kamurocho - the bar where you can go into and play Pool. There's a guy in the bar that lets you move money to Majima.
Majima's guy is outside Club Grand, playing a guitar (you can't miss him)

Now, I'm not sure which chapters these guys pop up in. It might be slightly slightly later in the game. So if they aren't in the locations above, you can just come back later.
Thank you!

Yeah, first game. The minigames are so addictive, it's insane. I just enter a random building to check it out and spend the next 10 in-game hours there. Shouldn't I be helping a woman or something? I don't know, check out my hand, though, I'll definitely get a Royal Flush this time.

Yeah, the mini games (in my opinion) are really well designed. Sure some have their quirks, and you have some that aren't great but this is the only series that has me clamoring to do everything in each installment and they keep coming up with new stuff, different arcade games etc. for each game in the series.

Oh, forgot to mention because I couldn't use my PC that night, but the Chapter 6 boss fight was so fucking good. Not just the fight itself, the entire moment, all of the cutscenes, it was amazing!

Too bad I kind of broke the game with Real Estate Royale, though. I don't think that boss was supposed to go down that quickly, lmao.

Worth it.

So, finally had some time this weekend to get back to Yakuza 5 on the PS4. Cleared Haruka/Akiyama's part and am now going onto Shinada's section (aka my favourite part of the game).

So... while Haruka and Akiyama share a chapter (something I kinda wish wasn't a thing because Akiyama really needed more content for himself) I really like the plot in this section -
the dark side of the idol industry, and how Haruka doesn't seem to fit in - the way the game portrays the industry is a shady, sexist, dangerous place where idols are replaceable one dimensional characters for fans perverse enjoyment... Its particularly dark stuff, and I do love how Haruka never wavers in her kind/loving personality, she seems completely incapable in hating even the bitchy T Set and she even stands up to the monstrous Kanai. Kinda makes me wish they didn't pull the "kidnap" card, even though its reversed real quick as it just shows how she's really quite fearless, if a little too naive in some situations. The big twist with her boss getting killed early on is quite the gut punch, as the scene right before basically spells out how Haruka feels about her (a mother figure) even though the more you learn about her, the worse she actually is - fucking people over (probably wasn't the best idea to piss off Ogita that much) and yet when Katsuya enters the scene he's absolutely no better (ok, he's Yakuza, but still he essentially blackmails Haruka in their first conversation).

And then to balance out this dark side, you have a slightly lighter/funnier side - Akiyama. He's a funny guy and makes several scenes more enjoyable with his goofy, carefree personality - like when the Omi goons show up at his office for the second time, they are taken aback by just how happy he is for them showing up, or how his big showdown with Kanai at the end of the part has him out of breath, complaining about his smoking habit, completely unphased by the upcoming fight. Plot wise he really just does bounce off of Haruka's main plot, and is there only because of her "dream" (that word gets used so many damn times in this part, I guarantee that if you don't know what "dream" is in Japanese when you start this game, you sure as shit will by the end of this part), he basically serves as an excuse to fight since Haruka doesn't do that. And to be fair, its something that he does exceptionally well - he gets basically his Y4 moves list back and most of the heat moves unlocked from the get go, and a load more awesome ones unlocked as you continue playing. 60FPS means his combat feels even more fluid and badass, and his new "Marvel Vs Capcom" cross promotion to give you insane gravity defying air combos is just the icing on the cake at this point. Plus he's really stylish with a staff/pole weapon, so make sure you keep some of those on hand for fights. He also gets a couple of cool long fights (honestly could have done with one more, but since he only gets half a part to himself...) and some legit tough bosses (Ogita was the hardest, Kanai + goons was actually the easiest because I had so many heat moves that by coincidence all hit Kanai meant his health dropped real fast!)
My big complaint with Akiyama's side of the plot is how little screen time Hana gets. Its technically 0 (she only appears via phone calls) but still, she's great for the two odd talks you get with her. She's just as funny and brutal to Akiyama as usual, and I really wish we'd see her again (no Ishin technically doesn't count, but at least she gets to sing in that).
Side story wise, Haruka gets a few fun ones (the autograph signing mission kinda cracked me up) but more often than not most were just an excuse to have her sing or dance, not sure if I'd say her's were lower quality than the other characters, but I think they might have been less funny if that makes sense? More straight ahead having her promote her idol self. That said - two side stories (well, one mini game) do stick right out as being best in show - the first is the comedian side story/mini game. I know, it can be a pain to play if you can't get the timing down but I honestly had 0 problems this time, and actually had a real blast with this, it was genuinely funny and you get to see a different side to Haruka. Kinda wish we got more like this. And secondly, Haruka also gets perhaps the most emotional side story in the game - letters from Okinawa - so in this one you have Haruka doing another magazine interview (you do several as part of her idol promos) only this time its from a magazine out of Okinawa (where she's been living the last few years). Haruka (and the player, if you've played Yakuza 3 that is) quickly realise these letters aren't just from random kids, but rather the other orphans she'd been helping take care of the last few years and you get some pretty decent writing and responses. Its one of those genuinely brilliant side stories, that assuming you've played the previous games to get the connection it gives you a really great payoff.

Meanwhile Akiyama gets a few decent side stories that has him doing everything from dancing off against an elderly lady (and if you think that's the funniest dancing scene in the game with an old person, you'd be wrong because Komaki having a dance off with Haruka manages to be even funnier still!), to meeting his old boss who fucked him over years prior (basically, if you've played Yakuza 1 and 4, this side story is for you, gives you some great background into Akiyama and just further ties the two plots together). Also some other good loan related stories that help flesh out a few points in the main plot, learning how to haggle, a supernatural Photobooth and other craziness.

So yeah. That post ended up being longer than I expected. Its a great fun part of the game, I didn't even talk about how great Saigo and his wig was (fuck his SMG fights and grenade chase though) or how Mahjong AI is insane in the Sotenbori parlour for this game.

Yume.

So, well onto chapter 2 with Shinada... a couple of his grapple based moves feel like they recycled a couple of Tanimura's old animations, not sure if that's just me imaging things though.
I'm really liking Shinada's part again... sure you might feel differently if you either a) wanted the plot to really start coming together after the last chapter or b) hate baseball but personally the switch to a brand new character is welcomed. Plus he's so different - you've had Kiryu (legend that is just trying to live a normal life), Saejima (powerhouse that is counting down the days to rejoin the Tojo Clan), Haruka (up and coming pop idol), Akiyama (legendary money lender) and now Shinada... who ends up with a paltry 17 yen at one point in chapter 1. Don't spend it all at once...

Thankfully after a couple of fights and plat/gold plates all of Shinada's money woes are over. Well, not really... but it lets me buy some awesome weapons! As with the last time I played the game, Uno and Takasugi are great support characters (oh, and Milky) who help quickly define Shinada's character and the game also does a good job of hyping up the mysterious Nagoya Family.

Nagoya itself looks pretty beautiful, definitely the most "Christmassy" city in the game outside of Sapporo naturally. Exploring the park and little stream area just north of it looks great at night with all the lights on. Though I still find it so strange that it has a pretty large stadium landmark in the game map which is basically not used. Kinda makes me wonder if its either for show, or if there was a planned use for parts of the map that were cut for time - for example in the stadium area there's a big rooftop area that as far as I remember, goes completely unused (feels like a fight should totally have taken place there at some point).

Side content wise I really like Shinada's baseball side stories. Not quite Eastbound and Down, but still a pretty crazy story of the past, revenge and baseball! Plus it all ties back into leveling Shinada's skills up which makes the batting cages mini games slightly easier (though I try to avoid the heat eye mode, because where is the fun in that?)

Combat wise I quite like Shinada's small combo's and grapple focus however he definitely feels like he lacks an extra "something" to make fights more entertaining after a while, as ultimately there's not all that much variety to be had. That said though, his weapon skills are fantastic and are a blast to play around with. Though you need some decent money to get some weapons, its well worth doing just to mix things up and see those exclusive heat moves!

Oh, and training a prize winning race chicken is just as addictive as I remember. Nugget Jr will do the world proud.

Man your posts are making me really excited to replay Yakuza 5 once again. I really hope they announce them for the west soon. I could play it on my PS3 but I really want to replay it on PS4.
Yakuza 5 is probably even better on a replay as you don't really feel the need to "rush" to see where the story will go and thus the game is played on a pace that is intended. It is a really dense game and I really love that about it when I look back. Sure, the story is a bit meh in parts but the game shines if you look at each character's story as seperate stories. Each character has a very different vibe and motivation so the weakest part of the story for me is when they try tying everything together which made the game's ending feel very cheesy. Yakuza 0 executed the multiple storyline idea much better. Yakuza 5 is probably my favourite game to chill out in and do different activities.

I have been listening to the soundtracks of the games and I really love the soundtrack of Judgment. The use of synth adds a lot to the different vibe of the game. Lastest ear worm has been Hamura's theme:

The track really fits him and the "untouchable, power hungry" vibe he gives off.

I can't wait to see how Shin will be like. I would like them to be even more experimental with it as they nailed it with Judgment.

Playing 5 at a more laid back pace definitely just helps take in the sights and do everything the game has to offer. Only points I break off and main line the game is when I hit the level cap, and that's just so I can limit break when I bump into Komaki soon!
The more I play Shinada's chapter the more I like his plot. I mean, just the mystery of the local crime family and why its all tied back to Shinada. Its very different, but really cool. Its quite the departure from the different murder/mystery you just finish with Akiyama and Haruka. Definitely think if the final boss and end plot could have been handled better plot wise it'd be seen as the best in the series (or at least right near the top), as the individual parts are all basically excellent. And the gameplay is certainly second to none.

I beat Yakuza: Black Panther a few nights ago using a Google translated guide and had a lot of fun, even if I couldn't understand the story or went as in depth with all the content because of the language barrier.

Thoughts-

-The combat- there's a lot of styles to use and it shines 1 on 1 (group fights were eh). I prefer the main game's fighting system's, but this was a nice change of pace and while I kept switching styles to max them out, I only opened a little over half of the 20 in the game. There's also a fighting master to learn more moves from. It's deep, but there's some long load times to get into battles.

-The motion comic art design grew on me, but the unskippable cut scenes, some that were 15 minutes plus, were a drag. You can tap triangle to fast forward a little, but skipping entirely isn't opened up until the post game.

-The jobs (Strip Club Bouncer, Ice Cream Scooper, Burger Restaurant Worker & Ramen Cook) are all simple fun and a good way to earn money which you use to level up your 5 stats.

-There's technically no coliseum, but there is an NPC that will let you fight 30 different enemies allowing you to move up the ranks and get some really good items.

-There's no locker keys, instead you listen for and collect cats to get a small discount on training to learn new moves. A bit of a let down as you don't ever see the cats during or after collecting.

-There's bowling, simplified old style batting cages, UFO catchers, but no darts, billiards or arcade games. The Karaoke is a short clip and all you do is mash the O button to fill a meter before time runs out. Bowling is the best side activity here.

-Items have a generic icon for each class they belong to, if you can't read the Japanese text, It's hard to tell what you have when you want to use it or want to buy or sell something. This was my main source of frustration as it made managing my inventory or healing in battle a pain.

-There's a few trailing missions and they suck with the fixed camera angles.

I ignored the Hostess clubs and casino, but did a number of the side quest's. 74% & 101 cats found in 22 hours. I'd give it an 8 out of 10 and it's too bad these games were never localized. There's some really nice production quality, lot's of voice acting, a good amount of content, and except for one late game fight (that has a frustrating conditional requirement) the combat is pretty good.

Maybe someday in the future I'll get my understanding of the Japanese language high enough (or someone picks up and finishes the dead/dormant fan translation) to play through it again properly and really go in depth.

Yeah, restarting the second Kurohyou game and discovering I had to watch the super long intro AND recap of the first game again was sorta annoying! I did find a way to skip them later on when I replayed the ending but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. Aside from the skipping issue I was really happy they went with the manga look. CGI can date pretty bad, and this artwork looks fantastic, it'll still look great years down the line. Its nicely animated as well, like a manga brought to life.

Arena wise I guess they didn't add the normal arena as a side activity due to Tatsuya getting pulled into the Dragon Heat tournament as the main story (of both Kurohyou games). The ranked fights are fun though in the second game they have these silly timers and ways rank up matches work that means it takes way longer to hit rank 1 than it ever should!

The mini games are definitely super simplified bar a couple. If you get the chance one day, play the second game through, its even more feature complete with mini games (playable Mahjong, Karaoke that is more than just button bashing etc.) and I enjoyed the game even more than the first.

Only issue I really place on both games with the combat is fighting more than one enemy at once, and having to smash the "X" button over and over as I struggle to get up!

One on one the combat really shines and I think the dev's realized that as there's a number of fights where you'll face a group of enemies but they come into the battle area one at a time in intervals, even though at other times you'l be facing 3 at once.

That late game fight I mentioned before
with the automatic fail condition if you attack the enemies head too much took me awhile as I kept having to switch through styles to find moves that would only attack low
was my biggest gripe.

I see there's a 4 player versus mode and I wonder if it's nearly as fun as the developer's N64 wrestling games. These games need Kiwami type ports!

Just looking through the manual for Kurohyo 2 and reading your comments really makes me want to play the second game soon. If Sega doesn't announce the remaster's of 3-5 for the West in the next month I'm going to assume they aren't coming this year & I'll play that instead.

Okay, so I've played some of the Yakuza (2, 4) games to a limited degree, but have never gotten too far (for reasons unrelated to the games). Yet I always buy them in hopes that one day I will finally get into the series, because they seem to have everything I love.

Now the question is, without need to buy more games, what is the order I should play them in? I'm in a bit of a pickle, I want to experience the upgrades as the series moved forward, but I also want a cohesive story.

I have on my shelf:
Original 2, 4, 0, Kiwami 1, and 6.

I do not plan on getting 3, 5, and Kiwami 2. Even though 5 also looks so super fun for its diverse activities (and some of these posts in here are tempting me), I do not want to spend another cent on these games until I've played the ones I have which I keep buying over the years without playing.

Is release order ok? Or story order better? But since I don't have Kiwami 2 it'll be weird going from Kiwami 1 to old 2 back to 4.

2 holds up perfectly fine unless your not a fan of the static camera used for city exploration. And you'll find people recommend you play 2 instead of Kiwami 2 anyway (personally, both are great in their own ways). So really, you could play 0, Kiwami 1 and then 2 in that order, then take things from there.

Release order is great. If you are okay with PS2 games, the early Yakuza titles are perfectly fine. Yakuza 2 in particular holds up very well.

Story / chronological order works too as it's how a lot of people have gotten into the series post Yakuza 0's release.

I'm probably misreading this post, but you're going to play 4 and 6 without playing 3 or 5?

And I would just get Kiwami 2 tbh, well worth the $25. 0 --> Kiwami 1 ---> Kiwami 2 is an amazing set of games.

I've been playing this series since it's release, and never bothered with the hostess missions until I said "fuck it" in FotNS. Ended up pouring hours of my life into it. I had no clue that it was going to be this addictive. I ended up doing the same in Y0. I thought that it was going to be some kinda pervy side thing and not some addictive mini game that keeps bringing me back.

When I finish Y0, I am debating on firing up Kiwami 1, 2, 6 or Judgement. I own and beat Yakuza 1-4, got far in Dead Souls and never played 5 yet. I'm leaning more on 6 or Judgement than firing up the Kiwami games.

Hostess clubs in those two games are very different to every other game in the series (other than Kiwami 2). Just a heads up on that.

And as for going for 6 next, why skip 5? 6 literally starts where 5 finishes, so playing 6 without doing 5 first (which is an excellent game in its own right) seems crazy to me!

Assuming the user has a PS2 to play Yakuza 2 on (or better still, a PC to emulate it on) then I see no reason to immediately spend money on getting Kiwami 2. The original game holds up great and still has a few advantages in places over the remake - like certain content (host club Adam), combat and difficulty (i.e. bosses not being complete pushovers) and the larger/better soundtrack. Oh, and properly aged Takashiro.

Gotcha. I was thinking of starting it before 6, because I didn't think it was crazy to go from 2>3>4. Isn't 5 is only available digitally on the PS3? I guess it's time to fire up my old fat boy once again.

Yeah - digital only over here which is a great pity. Kinda why I hope the remaster gets released over here so that we can finally get a physical release of it after all these years.

Yes. How much will I be missing exactly? I've heard such mixed answers from people like some of the games are disposable in terms of moving the story forward. Besides not shelling out more money, I've also always wanted to play through the original Y2. It's just that I'm worried they've changed the story up in the remake so it'll no longer line up as well with the newer games.

Yes I do have a PS2 still hooked up. As for the 5-6 jump I'll see how burned out I am by the time I reach 4, or if I have become a superfan and craving more.

The story is kept exactly the same in Kiwami 2. People could mention the puzzle being changed as they remove the small Shinsei area from Kiwami 2, but that just means you do a different puzzle to reach the same cutscene. The extra/changed content is all side stuff. There's only two points in the main game where your briefly forced/introduced to a couple of major mini games but that's almost nothing in the grand scheme of things. Cutscene direction actually remains pretty much 1:1 with 2, so you could watch both side by side and the only real difference will be the change in the visuals.

Arguably Kiwami 1's story is changed compared to Yakuza 1 in a couple of places. In that game they actually do add a few new cutscenes into the game with the Nishiki story bits adding some much needed backstory, and Majima related cutscenes purely for fanservice (and one could point out that a couple of the new Majima cutscenes/elements somewhat dilute his story appearances.

Hmm, I don't recall any story alterations in Kiwami 2. But as others have said, if you really don't want to get it, then the original still holds up.

And I don't think any mainline games are disposable, especially not 4, but I guess I'm your mileage may vary as far as burnout and whatnot.

True, but if someone has 0 and Kiwami 1 already, I'd recommend Kiwami 2 to go with them over the original. That trilogy just fits really well together imo.

So looks like its just two weeks to go now until RGGS hold their meeting thingy in Japan to announce more details over Shin RGG. That's crept up on me (along with Gamescom next week). Its gonna be so nice to finally get some more concrete info on the game, I've been searching for scraps through interviews and RGG Online for so long now, will be nice seeing even just a tiny CG snippet of the game.

I wonder how much they will unveil. Perhaps part of the story with some CG cutscenes followed by a full gameplay reveal at TGS. Either way: I'm pumped (while still slowly playing Judgment. I don't have much time lately).

I just finished Yakuza 6. The feels.

I still have Yakuza 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2, but I'm ready to take a break from Kazuma Kiryu. Which game should I play next; Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, or Judgment?

If you're also looking for a break from Kamurocho, then Fist of the North Star (and don't use the Kiryu-skin/costume).
If you like to spend some more time in Kamurocho, but not as Kiryu, then maybe Judgment.
Otherwise, Yakuza 0 is the obvious answer.

Any chance we hear anything Remaster related at Gamescom? Getting a bit nervous here as I'd think they'd want that info out there before they really get into the next chapter of Yakuza.

I think, if anything, we'll hear news at TGS
Nah. Games are already out in Japan, and they'll be focusing on new Yakuza games.. I'd say its almost completely unlikely anything other than a brief confirmation that Shin RGG is also getting localised in multiple languages.

Well, I've seen people say we could expect a date, title and brief cutscene tease. Me, I'd expect the title and maybe a brief cutscene showing off the game but little else. I think we'll see a proper blowout at TGS myself. But hey, the more we get the happier I'll be!

It really would be odd to hear about Shin Yakuza coming to the West before the remasters.

I had a thought, what if the reason the remasters are taking this long is because they want to drop the pc versions at the same time?

In the next game, Sega should give Saeji a new outfit that makes him look like a real yakuza boss.

Spend like 6 hours just playing Mahjong in Judgment to get the Yurika requests, just for fun.

Took me some time to get the Pinfu ("No-Points Hand") because i was making a mistake, All Triplet Hand and Half Flush went pretty quick, but the Nine Gates i still haven't got it. That hand is very hard to pull off, i hope theres a cheat item for it. Her request are optional but now that i started it i want to finish them.

Could be, can't imagine those games should be too hard to port and really there's not much reason to not launch them at the same time. But you never know with Sega.

Also, I agree with Gacha and that Saejima costume, gimme one for the new game, though I can't imagine Ichiban wearing one (but at the same time I could see Arakawa totally wearing it, so giving him a costume based on his father figure totally makes sense).

Or better yet, give us another Yakuza with playable Saejima that has better clothes. I really love this character.

His haircut in 5 so they should just keep it (I think they did in Ishin?) so it would be cool if he wore a suit or some other "non hobo" outfit.

Ishin, 6 and RGG Online all keep the same look for Saejima's hair as well which is great. So yeah, give him some cool new clothes in Shin while keeping the same haircut and I'll be happy!

Good to hear.

I really hope we do get another game with him. Hell I would be down for a spin off that has him and Majima doing bro stuff.
Karaoke with both of them like Nishiki and Kiryu would be perfection.

In Shin Yakuza both Saejima and Majima are gonna be in jail or missing again, Daigo too. Thats been their excuse for like 2/3 games in a row.

So I have been reading about Yakuza 3 remaster and the changes they did. And I found out the Hostesses are changed.

I have questions to those that played them:
Do they have the same dialogue and voice acting (did it have voice acting in the original game?) or did they just reuse the same dialogue? (I know Kana from Yakuza Kiwami 2's cabaret club mini game is back).
And what hostesses got replaced?

Imagine if Saejima is playable yet again but you start in jail again.

They'll invent a new type of cryo-stasis prison where the body is frozen and the brain is stimulated to simulate life and Saejima will be the first person to be imprisoned in it.

And he'll still break out if it, do whatever he does in the game and wind up back there by the end.

Bought Kiwami II on launch day. Finally going to get around to playing it. Super excited. I was planning on playing it after playing through House in Fata Morgana, but since LRG hasn't shipped the game out yet...Kiwami II wins. I've only played Kiwami I thus far and loved it; by the end of next year, I fully intend to play through 0, Kiwami II, and Judgement...and then be all set for the 3-5 remasters.

Deciding to get into the Yakuza games and (Falcom) Trails games recently means I'm basically set for games to play for the next couple of years as I have so many games to play in each series.

Not sure on VA's, as they did have Karaoke songs in 3 but those sound the same. That said, appearances and names were changed, but dialogue was kept completely the same (I know this because I used a guide to blast through all 10 as quick as possible, and the questions/answers are identical to those in my original guide!)

At this point they need to make him the chairman of the Tojo Clan. Cody style.

Thanks for the explaining. So I guess they didn't add dialogue for the returning hostesses from Kiwami 1 and 2. A shame if that's how it is, thry could have added some Cabaret Club fanservice.

Have you guys been seeing how good the art for Yakuza Online is? I love it. Sure wish they could localize this somehow.

The art is easily the best thing about Online. I just wish I ha a online gallery to look at it all, I'm not really all that interested in playing the gacha game, but it'd be nice for the artwork to be preserved.
