Just finished Cabaret Club Czar in Yakuza 0! What a fantastic questline. Only thing left is to max out Mana and do her quest, but I'll leave it for tomorrow night. Then I can finally get back to the story and maybe move on from Chapter 7 after 74 hours, lmao.

But, uh... how do I say this...

WASN'T HE IN A FUCKING COMA????

I'm slightly confused, to say the least.

Gameplay-wise, Cabaret Club Czar is extremely addictive, and I loved the stories for each hostess, my favorites being Yuki, Saki and Chika (so far, maybe Mana is incredible, who knows). I wish Marina in Real Estate Royale had this kind of personal dialogue and story to her as well. LOVED the whole makeup/dressup aspect of it too, way more into it than I could ever imagine being into this kind of stuff. I waaanna beeee your giiiirrrllll, woooooo.

But the "main story" of the Real Estate Royale questline is waaay more engaging than Cabaret Club Czar. It was only in this final part with so much drama that I realized that I didn't give a shit at all about the main story, it was 100% carried by the girls and their dialogue. Which isn't bad by any means, but it kinds of lack that impact at the end, since what closes it is the least interesting part. Though I suppose what really closes it is technically Mana's story, since you unlock her at the end.

And I still have so many sidequests with Majima, too. Can't wait to do them all. This game is incredible, holy shit. Can't wait to test out my new style as well, hopefully it's a bit more fun to play than Kiryu's. Though I guess it's unlikely, since I'm not a huge fan of Majima's gameplay in general. At least it pushes me to use the weapons a lot more, I guess.

Hmmm, maybe I should spend a few more hours in the Casino before going back to the main story, just to unwind...

Yakuza 0 is totally worth $11 right??

Just beat Amon in 6. Holy hell that was hard. What got me the most were the exploding drones that take off all your health. I finally tiger dropped him to death. I only have one trophy left for the platinum. Can I just save and change the game to Legend difficulty, them beat it?

Yes, that's the way to do Legend quick. Very handy! I didn't really find 6's Amon that hard to be honest, I actually thought he was one of the easier ones in the series (as the exploding drone bit you just go into R2 Heat mode just before the explosion - it'll knock you down to 1 health but not kill you, then just wail on him!)

Maybe it was in some of the other press during Gamescom and I just missed it but 3-5 will be going on individual sale eventually.

https://www.mcvuk.com/sega-cuts-con...ommunity-was-different-to-how-it-is-nowadays/
The games release is very much aimed at long-term fans of the series. The initial offering is a digital season pass called The Yakuza Remastered Collection, with players able to download Yakuza 3 immediately, then Yakuza 4 in October and Yakuza 5 in February. And with that a physical special edition of all three games will also be released, and the titles will go on individual digital sale as well.

Because of the Yakuza collection announcement I decided to pick up my 6 playthrough again, at Chapter 8.

What a place to pick the game back up after four months. Stopped right before a dungeon level, and now Kiryu and Someya are being chased by a feral gimp in the remains of Shangri-la.

Well, ended up preordering the Remasters. I still want these games on PC primarily... but I might as well complete my PS4 collection, I guess.

Still missing Fist of the North Star and Judgment though.

It has a completely different atmosphere to the rest of the game (or even series). I loved it though, one of the best chapters in the game for me. Makes me want a horror game made by the devs very much, maybe in a haunted version of Kamurocho!

i really couldn't get into judgment, i think i played around 6 chapters before moving on. i completed FOTNS though. didn't like the main character or the gameplay they added in judgment, which is a shame. i'll give it another try if they decide to turn it into a franchise or something.

I think I'm the opposite, I finished and loved Judgment but I wasn't able to finish FOTNS. The combat changes and driving stuff didn't do anything for me :(

I loved both for different reasons. I loved the story and world of Judge Eyes while I felt the plot in FOTNS really missed the mark because they didn't make the most of the source material. That said, the combat in FOTNS is pretty much the best in the entire Yakuza series for me, crazy juggle and bound attacks and actual difficulty in the game. It was a joy to play.

Oh, one thing, was this supposed to happen?

I hope so.

Here's Saki all crestfallen because she's stuck with her shitty default look:

But then we review our training and she's radiating, happy with my superior aesthetic choices:

I could go for some karaage now.

God, I love Saki.

But you know who's even cuter? BUSINESSMAN KIRYU:

So adorable, Marina thought he looked more serious and respectable, I just think he looks like a baby.

To close things off, a screenshot I took early on because I thought the dialogue was funny, but now it's pretty much how I'm feeling after spending too much time with Cabaret Club Czar:

This game is amazing, and you guys are alright too, thanks for never shutting up about these games and making me finally play 0 because I thought this community was rad.

Not even near done with this game and I'm already thinking about how I'm gonna play the rest of the series. Hopefully Kenzan and Ishin will be available on the west when I'm done.

Now PSN have Yakuza Origins that has Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2. Do you think we will get a physical copy for it?

Been wondering lately if I oughta give 0 another chance via a second playthrough or if I should just toss it. I remember the last time I gave a game a second chance playthrough (Bayonetta) an heavily regretted the waste of time that ended up being. 0's a muuuuch longer game than that so I'm real hesitant here -.-

Glasses wearing businessman Kiryu is pretty amazing.

And yeah, after I finished my first Yakuza game. I was locking in orders for pretty much every game in the series.
Could tell that I would love them all if they even remotely resembled what I had just finished.
Playing through the series ended up being one of my favorite gaming experiences.
And then, after finally catching up, getting to play Yakuza 0 near (western) release was wonderful too.

You played through the entire game? I don't think a second playthrough will do much to change your opinion, that does sound like a waste of your time, to be honest.

Oh yeah, the worst part about starting with 0 is that, judging by most people's opinions on the series, it's all downhill from here.

Not that the others are bad, but I should already expect at least "not as good" in order to not be disappointed. And I think I'll manage, all I want is more Kiryu and Kamurocho after I'm done with 0. I can't believe I actually want to see more of the same city, always thought it was lame that they kept using the same city before playing, but I really want to see what it looks like in more modern times.

Also want to see more of some of the side characters that I'm enjoying, but I'm not really expecting that, considering 0 is a prequel.

Did they ever discuss the possibility of a Kamurocho game with a female protagonist? I'm liking the women in this game so far. If you told me I'd be this attached to even some porn star cameos, I wouldn't believe you, but here we are.

0 is a fantastic game no doubt but I don't think the drop in quality from the other games is all that steep and personally I found Kiwami 2 and 6 to be just as good in their own ways.

I always read that Kiwami (or Y1) is the worst in the series and I have not noticed THAT much of a quality drop coming from 0. Sure everything seems more simplified and one-note in the story, but it's still Yakuza. And if you like Yakuza then you will like this.

After playing both for a half hour, I made the decision to play Judgment with English voice acting, which I didn't think I'd do. The English dub has so much for flavor in the dialogue than the kind of stiff Japanese subtitles.

Agree 100%. This whole "its all downhill from 0" thing really annoys me, because it can give people the idea that the other games aren't worth playing. Which seeing as the games are pretty similar in many ways, is pretty crazy as I've always held the opinion that if you loved one Yakuza game you'll probably enjoy the others. Its not as if they overhaul the series each game.

Plus I do have to wonder how many people have played every Yakuza game when they post that up. Because I've played every game bar the mobile games released so far and I don't even agree that 0 is the best game in the series.

I'm betting that many have not played 3-5; I think after the remasters are out that might change people's minds.

I have played every mainline game + Dead Souls (if you want to get technical, I haven't played original 1 and Kiwami 2) and while I do like 0 the most, it's not like it's leaps beyond the other games.

It is a little unfortunate that the game that follows 0 is Kiwami, the weakest Yakuza game in my opinion, which may give people the wrong impression about the other games? I dunno. I still enjoyed Kiwami for what it's worth, but I definitely can see people coming from 0 being disappointed with it.

We'll see, I'd love to think people will appreciate 3 for what it does for Kiryu's character but I still bet people will complain about slow starts (because apparently its the only Yakuza game that has that!).

The more I replay 5, the more I personally feel its somewhat under rated. I mean, not in the sense people think its a bad game, just that the story is terrible. Its complicated, convoluted and silly in places, but so is 3, 4, 6 etc. if you really want to pick faults. I enjoy the individual plots, the baddies, and undoubtedly its still king when it comes to content (both in variety, and in fun - nothing else comes close to Kiryu's taxi or Saejima's hunting in my opinion).

I have played every mainline game + Dead Souls (if you want to get technical, I haven't played original 1 and Kiwami 2) and while I do like 0 the most, it's not like it's leaps beyond the other games.

Agreed. I personally loved Kiwami, but I'm different to newer fans because I've been playing since the beginning. I'd replayed the original Yakuza several times via PS2, PC (emulated) and then PS3 for the excellent remaster (which is the best way to play the original version of 1 in my opinion). I always wished combat was more fleshed out with more content, no missable side stories etc. which is basically exactly what Kiwami is. So to me, it takes a game I already love, and makes some changes so its my preferred version. Granted it also has a few issues mainly in some of its more repetitive requirements for 100% completion (mainly just fighting certain Majima's a number of times for the completion list) but I still see it as an excellent remake. Only, most people going into the series will not have this frame of reference, they just see it as "DLC for 0" or something.

I'd like to think it's mostly people who didn't play 1 and/or 2 before it that complain about 3's intro because otherwise... Talk about heartless smh. But yeah newcomers should dig it, I think. I love that game so much.

I'm grateful to Sega for making these a bundle that'll release in February physically because it gives me time to play the avalanche of new releases coming soon, haha. Still I'm itching to play 3 with a new translation... We'll see if I can resist.

I was watching a PC benchmark for Kiwami 2 the other day, and at one point, Kiryu grabbed a guy, entered a store while holding the guy, and then beat the shit out of him inside the store.

WITHOUT A LOADING SCREEN.

That was cool.

Game seems pretty demanding, btw. I think I'll need to have it at 900p to play at 60fps with a GTX 1060. I plan on moving to PC after 0 so I can have every game at 60fps, and also use the mods that restore the original songs. I wish I had Bubble in 0.

Subs over dub for Judgment. While the dub is indeed done well this time (well, better than FOTNS and Yakuza 1) I still can't imagine playing a game set in Japan like Yakuza or Judge Eyes with a dub... that and I really love the Japanese voice track for JE (though losing OG Hamura still hurts).

It is. I've even heard of one kyodai who had to turn off buildings in the game just to get a decent framerate.

The English dub has been really enjoyable for me in Judgment, and I've played Yakuza 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2, 3, 4 and the beginning of 5.

Aside from the lackluster combat performance in the vid, that's great. 4 comes close to being best in class combat wise, 5 is more refined but 4 has the same crazy bounce/bound mechanic that 3 has, making for some hilariously fun combos (I've seen some great ones against Amon).
I really loved my replay of 4 earlier this year with the remaster, its a bit light on story (something 5 fixes) but the amount of great content made it for one of the most fun 100%s I did in the entire series. Perfect length as well, doesn't really feel like it overstays its welcome, while later games like 5, 0, Ishin and even FOTNS have at least one trophy/requirement that really drags things on!

So ahead of Shin RGG's details reveal in less than a week, RGG Online got a new chapter:

Not much in the way of action, its basically setting the scene for a pretty big fight for team Ichiban. What's cool about the chapter (aside from the feeling of an impending big battle) is that it references some characters from the Kiryu saga. Best of all, Akiyama has a short convo with Hana, and the tattoo artist who pops up a few times in Yakuza 1 and 3 also makes an appearance as Ichiban gets some tattoo work done - Ichiban's tattoo is that half koi, half dragon combo so of course those two characters from Yakuza 1 are alluded to. Sounds like they will leave off Ichiban's story (at least for a while) after this next chapter or two, as they've mentioned in September they are switching protags, the second of which won't feature in the console game (they are exclusive to Online) - so I guess this might be wear the big change between mobile and console games pop up.

Finished Chapter 7. The Mad Dog style is SO MUCH FUN.

I wish switching to and from it during battles was a bit more seamless, it would be awesome to build heat with other styles and then switch to Mad Dog to use it, but still, really damn cool. The main story is super interesting now as well, but fuck it, it's side quest time!

Maxed out Mana and did her quest as well, loved her!

But hey, it also gave us the cheery Kiryu thumbs up gif!... ;( At least you didn't post "Hands" as an epilogue to that Twitter chain, that'd only made things worse!

On the brighter side, I wonder what kind of songs Ichiban will get in Shin RGG...

When I first looked up the lyrics to Today is Diamond... The tonal shift it got in my head was while and I got so sad. Yakuza 6 has this melancholic, quiet vibe that really suits Kiryu's struggle and when I finally unlocked Hands, looked up the lyrics and then played it I couldn't help but cry a little; it's just too much.

The only other thing in the series that hit me that hard was the ending section of Y5, now that was both extremely rewarding and emotional too, with a bit of tragedy of course.

I do have to wonder how many people have played every Yakuza game when they post that up. Because I've played every game bar the mobile games released so far and I don't even agree that 0 is the best game in the series.
I'm a more recent fan, being part of the huge wave of new Yakuza fans that started to crop up in 2017. Still, instead of stopping at 0 or the newer games, I did go back and play the original Yakuza 2, then 3, 4, and 5 on the PS3. Even after playing every mainline game, I remain of the opinion that 0 is the peak and clear winner because of just how much it does well.
A compelling story of vigor and passion, Kiryu and Majima are at the top of their game, fighting for their respective ideals as hard as they can. We can respect and feel for the guy who wants to see himself and his father exonerated, and we'll root for the guy who will do everything in his power to protect the poor blind girl from those who seek to do her harm. We want to see Makoto and Tachibana reunited, we wanna see the Dojima lieutenants (some of the best villains of the entire series) get their asses kicked. We love the bittersweet romance between Majima and Makoto, and the complicated bromance between Kiryu and Nishiki.

It's not just that, though. It's the incredibly exciting, vibrant 80s setting, the disco dancing and upbeat karaoke songs that accompany it, the best substories across the entire Yakuza series, the eight (!!!) total battle styles across two characters instead of just a single character with a single battle style, the crazy chapter cliffhangers that make you want to see what happens next as soon as possible, and more. The later Yakuza games are good, even great, but they lack all of this stuff. I think that's what makes 0 such a favorite for people, whether they be new fans, or longtime Yakuza series veterans.
