This is it, right? After Zero and Kiwami 2 - its all downhill from here?
Loved Zero. Could not have been more disappointed with Kiwami 1. And I heard Kiwami 2 is right up there with Zero as the top 2 games of the series...
I'm thinking I need to savor this game...and then significantly lower my expectations for the rest of this series going forward.
No offence but this is laughable. You make it sound like the rest of the series is trash and not worth playing. Your wrong, either way. People complain about 3's slow start but that doesn't make it a bad game. I'm hard pressed to think about what makes 4 bad aside from being a bit on the short side, but that's not a bad problem to have, especially with 5 being the opposite and being a juggernaut in terms of content, story suffers for it but its still damn good, just messy at the end. 6, Judge Eyes, Ishin and Kenzan are all excellent, and the PSP games are incredibly solid as well (especially the second one), those two might have better combat than the main games as well, can't decide, definitely more thoughtful, tougher combat which make for some far more interesting boss fights but those games lack more diverse heat moves and huge mob battles.
So couple quick questions:
I just finished up Yakuza 0 on the weekend and popped in Yakuza Kiwami 1 for about an hour. I was a bit disappointed at first to see how much of Kiwami 1 appears to be a repeat/how much is missing ( such as the cabaret club). Does Kiwami 1 introduce anything new really or are all of the mini games re-used?
Is the story in Kiwami 1 worth seeing? Kiwami 2 seems so much more....interesting? I loved Yakuza 0, dont get me wrong, just coming straight off of it into Kiwami 1, it seems disappointing. Kiwami 2 seems so fresh that Im more tempted to jump into it
My understanding is that this uses the same engine as Yakuza 6? Does that mean that a lot of the mini games and locations are simply reused from Yakuza 6 like Kiwami 1 uses from Yakuza 0?
Yakuza always does this, aside from Ishin and Kenzan which are set in completely different time periods you'll always see a lot of asset reuse from mini games, combat, locations.
Anyway, Kiwami 1 does suffer with not having much new in terms of mini games, its worth noting that the original Yakuza had a tiny amount, most of what people come to expect from a Yakuza game weren't included until Yakuza 3 or later. Only things I can think of added to Kiwami over 0 is the photo booth (which is copied out from 5) and Mesuking (which is a mish mash of taking 0's terrible Cat Fighting but making it good, and taking inspiration of an actual Sega arcade game about bugs fighting, Mushiking or something like that).
The real big new content is all the weird and wonderful Majima scenarios you encounter throughout the game.
And as for Kiwami 2, its a mix of old and new. It takes mini games from past games (5, 6 and many earlier games) while adding a few new ones as well. Its missing a few from 0 (some gambling, bowling, billiards).
