The Job system looks really cool.

So it's gonna be like Final Fantasy V? Oh shit.

Looks like a Yakuza game to me - are people really not going to play it because it looks turn based? Combat looks like its basically turned into a whole bunch of heat actions.

Mini Games (from top left)

Outrun
Afterburner?
Some card game?
Batting Cage (Baseball)
Mahjong
Dragon Kart
Virtua Fighter 5
Card game (as per above)
Darts
Driving Range (Golf)
Hostess club?
Road rage?
Not sure
Virtua Fighter 2
Shogi
Karaoke
Keep awake Ichiban cinema game!?

Has Afterburner been in a Yakuza game?

This just keeps looking better and better. Can't believe how well suited turn based looks.

Just need to finish 3 and then start 4, 5 and 6 before this is out.

Yep, everything looks fantastic. A minor concern could be the pitiful damage the characters seem to deal in-battle in the gameplay trailer, but I'm not gonna do any pre-emptive whining since we have absolutely no context to the tiny combat clips. Could be on hard, could be a story battle, etc.

edit:

Ah and there it is, no more pitiful damage. Looks massively more fun than the old brawler system which I've frankly kind of started hating over my Judgment playthrough. The encounter rate in that game is just ridiculous.

Some of those super attacks look just bonkers. Fuck it I'm all in, turn based is not what I wanted and the trailer didn't really alleviate my biggest worry that combat will start to really drag later on (already a common problem with Yakuza games, but you can just end fights in like 10 secs eventually), but they aren't half arsing it.

here
I imagine the break dancing class is good for groups, the yakuza/sword class is good against single targets

Host probably does buffs and debuffs?

I seriously doubt that's an exhaustive list of all the minigames. There are several gambling games for instance not shown that they would have no reason to omit.

If they made Yokohama so big - I'm guessing its going to be used again in future Yakuza games, meaning many of the characters here will probably make a return too. Yakuza 7 is really going to set the stage for the next few games to come.

That looked batshit insane.

I was bored of Yakuza many games ago. This will drag me back. It looks fantastic.

Sorry but this doesn't make me any more hyped ao ut the combat. Nothing I have seen could scratch that itch.

Side activities look good and would have made me hyped as hell if it wasn't for the combat.

Yeah Sega, everything I love about Yakuza...

Brawler combat is one of the things I look forward to each time so no, this game doesn't have everything I love about the game.

It will probably still be around for some time even if they went back to the brawler mechanics, it might just be the new Sotenbori.

WAS THAT A FUCKING AKIRA SPACE LAZER

Well Amon had one in Yakuza 4, its Kiryu's damn fault for not dismantling it! But yeah, WTF are they going with a couple of these plot points. Looks delightfully insane.

Looking at the story stuff, looks like we might be getting a female assassin as a villain this go round, which is cool. I really want to know more about Ichiban's main support cast (the lady, hobo doctor and guy) as I already like what I've seen. Story looks fantastic going by the scenes, though obviously I'd need to play the game to actually judge on the quality.

What I did like about the side activities - looks like you roam the streets with your crew, which is cool. Also, looks like they play a more active part in mini games - Darts, Karaoke and Hostess Club all showed Ichiban interacting with one of his team, which for hostess clubs is new. I like this idea. The job system looked hilarious and awesome, host Ichiban looks cool. The new mini games looked like great fun and the production values on them are as ace as ever.

What I didn't like - arcade wise looks like rehashing old stuff. Now when the old stuff is Sega classics, that's not a bad thing, but Judge Eyes just came out last year and had a rather nice mix of old and new, I wanted that again here. Also, while the attention to detail on the pachislots stuff is wonderful, nothing outside of cheat items are making those things fun to play, so play, gimme cheat items!

So yeah, I get people being hung up on the big change, but I really like the change of setting and different gameplay on this one assuming the gameplay is as fun as briefly shown). I've just finished Yakuza 5 afer 151 hours, and I do kinda welcome this change. Not to say I don't want to see brawler combat return, I bet they could do great things with a team based combat system, but I certainly like what they are doing here and certainly want to see more.

I mean that laser came in handy for Dead Souls, no?

and I'm fine with the change, give the developers actually something new to try...maybe if Binary Domain hadn't bombed so hard, things might have gone differently. But yea, I've played through most games barring Kenzan and Ishin, I was worried they might get tired of it, this might be good for them in the long run, even if they went back to brawlers.

jeez, i forgot all about the space laser, that's gotta be a summon or something right?
Who knows. Could be part of Amon's secret boss battle for all we know. They are definitely not shying away from the wacky side in the game. The story itself for the most part looks pretty serious, but some of the side stuff looks delightfully stupid. Makes me excited to experience the game!

Yeah true. But didn't old Amon use the laser against you in DS as well? I remember him kicking my ass!

And you should totally import Kenzan and Ishin if you are able to stomach playing the games with guides. I have and loved both games very much, the setting and slightly different combat were a welcome treat, likewise the fanservice in Ishin was ace if you've played Yakuza 1-5. Looks similar in this case actually with you actually sorta rewarded for playing previous Yakuza games to get all the summon in jokes.

I do wonder what the future of the series holds though. Will we get another brawler? Will it be RPGs from here on out? Both? I'd still like to have a brawler Ichiban game, but can't say I need it now when this game looks like so much fun.

Sweet, I was hoping someone would take a look at the map to give us an idea of how big it really is. Bodes well for a nice variety of carting courses at least!

It's still very weird that this a turnbased game. I wouldn't day I'm against it, but it's super weird to me.

I love that the jobs change how your character looks. So good.

Most RPG with job systems changes your character's appearance, so this isn't out of the norm. But here, the jobs are made to fit into modern setting instead of medieval warrior, monk or mage so it's quite unique. Really liking what I'm seeing here. Probably the first time I'm excited for a Yakuza game.
