The game basically references the last Yo-Kai Watch movie. They'll probably release it subbed/dubbed before the game anyway. It's not mandatory, it just introduces the characters.
Oh I forgot a tweet.
The dub movies aren't the best. You can watch the movies with subtitles. I believe right now there all available online except the movie 5 (forever friends).

It's probably good for us to wait for the game to be brought over. Seems like they're going to be adding a lot of content and probably polishing up the experience in the coming months.
Don't worry, it will also take them at least a year to localize... the only part I hate about L5.
Hell yeah, that it's getting announced bso soon bodes well for it actually coming out next year.
Wonder if we're gonna have to pay separately for the multiplayer mode...

I don't think they've given it a date, but... It's not gonna be a 2019 release.
It's probably an off year for Pokémon and this won't make it either lmao.
Maybe localizations are not as easy to confirm, given the movie tie-in requirements.
I think I'm about 3/4 of the way through it at this point, but I'll play it again, especially if it ends up being more optimized by the time we get the NA release.

I've been playing the Japanese version and it's a very fun game even for someone like me that has had no prior experience with the franchise.
No surprise that they would skip straight past a Blasters 2 localization and Japan in general seem very tired of this IP so a faster localization to offset some of the low sales would be beneficial.
Edit: Also yes, the game does reference events and use characters from other Yokai watch anime and movies that haven't been localized in English yet, but it's not to hard to pick up the gist of what happened.

Hopefully it releases next year with all the bugs and DLC already in the game. They should also bring the movie tie-in(prequel?) along too.

I've never played these games, but I saw some footage of YW4 last year and have been wanting it in the west ever since. This is awesome news and I'll be picking it up, granted I'm allowed to play with Japanese audio/English subtitles.
I'm playing through the game right now without having seen any of the anime or movies, and it works just fine.
