Ben Mendelsohn stans Spider-Man for life.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he said: 'I think what happens in these things is, most of the time, cooler heads prevail. Sometimes we end up in a situation which feels like it's going to be the lead up to World War I.

'But shit man. You can't lose Spider-Man from the Marvel universe. He's one of their absolute motherfucking pornstars. Boy, I could name 30 that you could quite comfortably lose before you start thinking about losing Spider-Man.

Reflecting on the idea of Peter Parker leaving the MCU, the 50-year-old declared: 'It would have been a disaster.'

No lies detected.

Be super cool if a character in high school wasn't referred to as a pornstar but okay

The MCU would've been fine. It's better with him in it, but the franchise is far bigger than any one hero now.

I'd have worried for Spider-Man on his own, though.

Where's the lie?

Spider-Man is to Marvel what Batman is to DC or Pikachu is to Pokemon.

Spider-Man is the most important Marvel superhero easily

Eh...

I mean Spider-Man is great but people act like there weren't seven years of well-received MCU movies without him. They would have been fine.

Yeah, the best thing to come out of Marvel not having access to some of their most well-known characters is it forced them to take a risk with their lesser known ones.

This. MCU heavy-hitters are yet to come: Fantastic Four, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel.

Now, a Spider-Cinematic Universe without Spider-Man though, that's really limited.

'He's not copying anyone else, he's a better movie star than we deserve. We don't actually deserve, I think, such a beautiful f***ing movie star, such a beautiful male movie star, that you can see and feel, you experience him as he's doing it,' he explained. 'You want to be him but you can't be him. You want to be somewhere in his proximity. He's a very magnetic person. Timmy was very reverential without being a d**k about any of it.'

'He's doing f***ing well and long may he reign. It's a delight to see people get that movie star buzz around him,' the star added. 'I have never heard audiences clamour and scream for anyone in my working life the way they clamour and scream for Timmy. And I love that.'

Uh. Wow. You OK there, Ben?

And yet, the new deal is only for 1+1 movies...
My guess is once Disney has time to recover from spending $70+ billion on Fox, along with guiding Disney+ and Hulu well on their way to success/profit, they'll try and get the Spider-Man rights back. The only problem is, Disney will have to overpay as Sony has no motivation to sell. I think overpay will be an understatement if it does happen.

He sliding in Holland's dms as we speak

That second quote isn't even about Holland. It's about the co-star in his new film that he's promoting.

Ben fucking STANS hard. You gotta love it.

It's kinda cool to see an actor promoting the hell out of his coworkers versus the typical star path of eternal self-promotion.

Plus, he also stans games.

Vice: Red Dead Redemption?
BM: Yeah, thank you—that new one, I'll have downloaded, because I pre-bought it. But I want to add, for the record, that I do think that the best video game, in terms of modern games, is The Last of Us. I just wanna go on record.

Vice: Oh, I just bought that.
BM: You just bought it?

Vice: I know, I'm way behind.
BM: No, no, fuck that. Have you cracked it open at all?

Vice: No, I haven't, it's still in the packaging.
BM: OK, that, for my money, that's the best video game. Classically, I'm a Civ guy, Civilization, because it's the most strategy and it's war and all that bullshit, and you can just go back and start again and have one more move, all that shit, but I do think that The Last of Us is an extraordinary achievement. But really, for what it does here. [gestures at heart]

MCU can pump up and make rockstars out of all these c tier comic heroes for the next 10 years, it still wouldn't matter, Spider-man will always be #1

The fact that Spider-Man has managed to stay relevant even while not fully owned by Disney says it all.
