Yesterday in another thread someone mentioned a game called Monster Tale. It's a DS exclusive metroidvania, pretty fun but people in general forgot it, so much in fact that the remaster that was supposed to come out on the 3DS in 2015 was silently cancelled. All of this got me thinking, what are your favorite NDS hidden gems?

My top 3 would be:

3 - Ace Attorney Investigations 2

The Ace Attorney series can't really be considered niche or hidden, can it? but while the mainline series was successful on the console, the Investigations subseries died in the west after the first entry. The only way you can play this is wi th a fan translation and, well, pirating the game since Capcom never brought it here. It's a shame, really, because Investigations 2 is imo on the level of Trials and Tribulations in terms of quality, it's the absolute best the series has to offer.

2 - Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure

Made by the same devs from Monster Tale, Henry Hatsworth is a game that mixes puzzles and platforming and it's G R E A T. One of the most unique games on the system, with an incredibly colorful artstyle, solid gameplay, catchy music, it's simply fun. It's hard to describe it and make it sound fun, so please try it whenever you get the chance, I doubt the game is too expensive nowadays anyways.

1 - Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

I know SMT isn't really the series you think of whenever someone mentions hidden gem, but I rarely see people online discussing it and the remastered versions for the 3Ds seemed to just exist without causing any impact at all. I really don't get why, because SMT: DS (devs really tried every possible combination to end up with DS in their game's initials, huh?) is a great strategy game. Regular SMT and Persona fans might be thrown off by the lack of dungeon crawling that the series is known for, and the game could be a bit more balanced in both mechanics and difficulty curve, but it's still incredibly addictive and fun. The sequel is even better, so if you're interested in them please check the remastered versions out.

Honorable mentions: Rhythm Heaven, Radiant Historia, Puyo Pop Fever (not an exclusive, I know), Tetris DS (after Effect, it's probably the best version of Tetris).

Lost in Blue - I actually think this is a really neat little survival action-adventure game. Unique and fun and ahead of its time. It did "survival sim" long before that became a thing.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is by far my favorite game on the system. It starts out just looking like a cute but super easy Zelda-lite game, but when you unlock the tank battles not too far into the game it becomes one of the neatest experiences I've ever had. The localization is fantastic and kept me chuckling throughout. I had never played a Dragon Quest game before Rocket Slime and that never hampered my enjoyment.

Soul Bubbles would be my other one that I don't think many people mention. It was stuck as a Toys R Us exclusive in America which probably didn't do it any favors. But it's an ingenious little game. The game has a super simple concept of just blowing bubbles around (using the touch screen, not the mic), but each world takes that idea and goes in completely unexpected and cool places with it; i remember the ice world in particular being a huge highlight, as your bubbles froze solid and it turned into a Sonic-esque experience.

Can't recommend these two games enough if you can find them.

Rune Factory series. It's why it's continuation as a series was the best thing to come out of the last direct for me.

Did anyone else play that DSiWare game Boxlife?

Incredibly charming puzzle game with brilliant music. I guess it's not purchasable anymore, can't get much more "hidden" than that.

Orcs & Elves. It's a mobile port with a ton of upgrades. Dungeon crawler with really nice presentation. Programmed by John Carmack.

This game has surprisingly punchy shooting and a campaign that is brisk, but paced as such. I remember it coming out on iOS and being excited but it didn't feel as punchy.

Solatorobo by Cyberconnect2.
Incredibly charming game and one of the best-looking 3d games on the DS:

Very reminiscent of old anime adventure shows like Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water.
Plus it took me like 5 hours before I realized the characters were speaking French and not some made-up language. I always love Japan's weird take on France in videogames.

Trauma Center games are how I got in touch with Atlus. And they pushed me to medical school (even if I changed since)

I remember Importing Ouendan 1 back in high school and was super stoked when EBA came out. Both are super solid Rhythm titles. I never played the 2nd Ouendan though, but heard it was good.

Pac-Pix was like the second game I bought for my DS, and I don't really have any regrets really. A decently interesting, unique arcade game you would only ever find on the DS.

Great games.

I was going to mention Trace Memory. Really nice adventure game. It doesn't meet the heights of something like 999 but it was well written. The gameplay was very "DS", lots of unique stuff that played on the features of the system. I enjoyed it.

I was always disappointed the Wii sequel was never released in the US.

Well, if we talk about real hidden/more obscure stuff:

An absolutely cute and charming Incredible Machine clone with some beautiful animation from some Vanillaware staff. The only problem it that the game is pretty expensive now.
