the thing about red dead, is as good looking as that game is, it doesnt have stuff as complex in models as, say the machines in horizon zero dawn.
it looks that good because it is the most grounded game ever. another issue i have with red dead is the blurryness. really bad.

which is why i will give my vote to horizon. because horizon does a lot more things while being very close to matching RDR2 in pure graphics comprison.

Blurry? Game is 2160p

Red Dead purely for the outstanding details. The line of sight is breathtaking, the animations (while slow) are beautiful.

Runner up for me would be Resident Evil, I thought it was a stunner. Dripping with atmosphere.

Horizon Zero Dawn wowed me the most. When it released it felt like such a significant jump to open world graphics. It also has stellar art direction

Red Dead Redemption 2 easily, what it does and on the scale it does it on is unrivaled by anything else out there.

Big shoutouts to Metro Exodus on PC with an RTX card, it looks incredible:

Can't decide between Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus:

They all are absolutely beautiful in their own way.

This is probably recency bias + me not have played some of the other stuff, but I'd go with Anthem.

RDR2 easy. Beautiful game, native 4k, gorgeous realistic locations, weather effects, face/character capture. It's the whole package.

Consistency wise, I'd go with Uncharted 4. By consistency, I mean the game really looks amazing in almost every aspect like lighting, animation, character models, etc, and this stays consistent throughout the entire game. Seriously, this game has pretty varied environments such as jungles, beaches, indoor homes, snowy mountains and THEY all look consistently good. I was constantly amazed at each area of the game and there was never anything that stood out as graphically dull to me.

Other games, while beautiful always has something which stood out to me that doesnt look as beautiful as the rest of the game. Eg. water in God of War & Horizon, character models in RDR2 but for Uncharted 4 I could not find any fault at all.

Still Horizon Zero Dawn for me (RDR2 a close second). As a whole package, it stuns in almost every single aspect. Beautiful hyper realistic and exaggerated art direction, massive scale, excellent lighting and shaders, high quality character models and subsurface scattering, lots of excellent post-processing and effects, super clean but still sharp IQ, volumetric clouds, super intricate and detailed models, super dense foliage, amazing textures and so on and so on.

RDR2 technically. Ori and the Blind Forest Aesthetically.

This is a great shout actually. I remember playing Ori and thinking 'graphics, in terms of this Ghibli like art style, can't get better than this'. For the style it's going for it's just peak graphics. It looks like a movie.

I think I'd say Ori and the Blind Forest. Maybe Witcher 3.
You're a good person. :)

I'd say anyone of these:
Ori and the Blind Forest
Unravel (haven't played the sequel yet)
GRIS

I'm so tired of the third person behind the character design, RDR2 looks and animates fantastically but it's still just yet another realistic looking third person action adventure, more realism doesn't really makes me go wow anymore.

I thought that too until I saw Will of the Wisps. The jump to a "real" 3D model for Ori makes a huge difference and those new environments we've caught glimpses of are amazing looking.

Hard to pick one, but among the very best to me there are Horizon Zero Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, Forza Horizon 4, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Artistically speaking Bloodborne devours everyone in my book tho.

There's quite a few games honestly.

RDRII, Uncharted 4, Horizon, Witcher 3, Breath of the Wild, Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil 2, Inside, Super Mario Odyssey, SSB Ultimate and others I can't think of are all utterly fantastic looking for one reason or another.

i agree, i like the looks of these games far more than red dead as i just feel they are doing a lot more in terms of technical complexity. i wont ever see a model as complex as a thunderjaw, jormungandr, or the colossi in that game, and in general these games have a quality of a painting. i absolutely love how they look.

I love these threads because of the gifs and screens!

Rdr2 does look good, but the setting bores me.

I vote for God of war and the uncharted games.

Gears 4 and 5 also look amazing.

Have yet to play Detroit.

I'd also like to add that gt sports, driveclub, ratchet and Spider-Man look amazing

Your opinion is yours...i just don't understand why you keep pretending what red dead is doing is so simple at the same time.

The best looking?
Easily Detroit: become human.

As for RDR2, the 2d foliage brings it quite a lot down for me. It does look fine in most areas though but it's really not the best looking.

As a complete visual package RDR2 is the best looking game I've ever played, and was just as breathtaking at hour 135 as it was at hour 2.

Honorable Mention:
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Resident Evil 2
Battlefield 1
Spider-Man
Gravity Rush 2

To me it will be Zelda BotW. I do not own any other current gen consoles beside Switch but in terms of art direction there is nothing like it. I have not seen a game that does atmospheric lighting better. There is a reason why half of my screenshots are taken in Zelda, half in all of my games combined (and I have a full 200 gb card).

Cuphead, Super Mario Odyssey and ARMS are other games with incredible art direction. ARMS will be one of those 3D games that will still look delicious in 10 years time, like Wind Waker would.
