The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic. Sheer perfection from beginning to end. This will always be a pick me up album for me.
Elliott Smith - XO. In many ways the exact opposite of the album above, this is my favorite album in a catalog full of masterpieces. By the time I reach the final track, I'm near an emotional breakdown but wouldn't have it any other way.
Andrew Bird - Noble Beast. I connect better emotionally with this than his other albums, from the musical ingenuity to his playful use of wordplay (many made up). Effigy and Tenousness are peaks but there are no valleys to be found.

Simple Minds - Acoustic (Kinda a cheat as a redone best of, but it's fantastically done)
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (Honestly, I know many prefer the typical Oasis big hitters, and I'm a big fan, but I think I prefer his solo output nowadays and his debut hits a lot of good notes. Everybody's on the Run is immense loud on a decent speaker setup)
TV on the Radio - Seeds is probably my favorite album of all time because of how consistently good it is throughout and how much emotion is behind it. It's a masterpiece, imo. A real journey through loss and acceptance from start to finish.

- Roger Waters - Amused to Death / The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (not my favorite, but I suspect you'll enjoy this one)

Hands down the best live band I've ever seen. The energy they bring is unreal, and they're so friggen loud.
My top 3 no skips are:
Colors - Between the Buried and Me: The entire album is one single song broken into tracks. Think Dark Side of the Moon but Prog Metal.
Blackwater Park - Opeth: From heavy as hell to haunting mellow tracks, this album is perfection from T to B.
Crack the Skye - Mastodon: Great concept, amazing musicianship, and some really groovy riffs. My favorite Mastodon record

Jeff Davis County Blues' calm, lonely resignation always hits me hard.
Everything Darnielle made prior to Tallahassee is a lo-fi masterpiece. There is not a single album, EP, or cassette prior to 2002 that I wouldn't recommend.

He's a great storyteller. Yes, I even liked his fiction novels. And the Mountain Goats podcast.
Probably could list a bunch, but go with some metal albums that influenced me the most I suppose.
In Flames - The Jester Race
Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Metallica got me in into metal, and I guess either RtL or MoP could've been chosen here, but think I still listen to RtL the most. I probably would've put Megadeth's Rust In Peace here, but I hate Dawn Patrol.
Somewhere in Time was one of the first full Maiden albums I had and still remains my favourite. It doesn't have my favourite tracks, but I think it's their best from start to finish.
In Flames best days are long gone, but they got me into the more extreme stuff, and The Jester Race is perfect. Maybe could've put Colony here, but I do skip Pallar Anders Visa, if only because it's too long and it makes a much better transition the moment the acoustic guitar bit ends.
Feels wrong just listening three and leaving off so much.

Solid list, fam. From Mars to Sirius and Emperor of Sand are especially great imho.
If I were gonna go for a full-blown metal top 3, I'd probably replace Townsend with, Isis' Wavering Radiant or something, but still...
So many great mentions in this thread. Anyone saying My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Sonic Youth, or Stereolab is not wrong

This was definitely the best recommendation I could've received. The only albums I felt ever came close to matching what Talk Talk were doing here was Bark Psychosis' two albums, though quite unique in their own way.

Flawless album where all songs are top tier and very different from each other. Every song here is a classic.
Genesis - Selling England by the pound:
My favorite album from them, very delicated and tight structured songs. It has two of my favorites solos (one of FoF and another in Cinema Show)
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing - my favorite modern album, one of my favorites from the band. I love every song here too.
