I would include Switch games, but I guess it's in a generation of its own. Here's mine:

1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
3. The Wonderful 101
4. Dragon Quest Builders
5. Kid Icarus Uprising

BotW
PUBG
Bloodborne

that's it. Hopefully I can find another two by the end of the generation.

1. NieR Automata
2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
3. Uncharted 4
4. Zelda Breath of the Wild
5. Persona 5

Listing them like this doesn't mean one is better than the other, but they all shared the same aspect that they left a lasting impression on me while also enjoying both their gameplay and aesthetic a lot. As someone who likes good art direction, this has been quite the generation.

Man, that's hard.

1) Breath of the Wild.

After that it gets a little harder.

Dark Souls 3, Ori and the Blind Forest, Resident Evil 7 and Uncharted 4.

Not to backseat mod, but maybe everyone should list reasons why you liked those games. It looks like a list thread so far.

It should be noted that there are games in this generation that I would rate higher than some of the games on this list but are not here because of personal preferences, specific weighting, etc.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - 9.9/10
2. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice 9.4/10
3. Rainbow Six: Siege 9.2/10
4. Life Is Strange 9/10
5. No Man's Sky 8.4/10

1. Yakuza 0
2. Yakuza 6
3. The Last Guardian
4. Bloodborne
5. Nier Automata

All really incredible games. Although, I feel like I may be suffering from recency bias as all of those games are in the last two years except for Bloodborne.

The runner up would definitely be Night in the Woods. I really wanted it to fit on my top 5, but I don't think I can remove any of the ones I've got up there.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Yakuza 0
4. Bloodborne
5. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

And, honourable mentions: Night in the Woods, Rocket League, and Sonic Mania.

In no particular order:

The Witcher 3
Shadowrun: Dragonfall
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Alien: Isolation
Europa Universalis IV

The CRPG renaissance has been pretty fantastic to be fair. Some stellar AAA games as well that I haven't mentioned, e.g. Prey and Dying Light.

You guys might wanna add a little blurb about why these games are your top 5, because this is just a list making topic otherwise.

1. Witcher 3
2. Uncharted 4
3. Horizon Zero Dawn
4. Yakuza 0
5. Assassins Creed Origins

Bare in mind that there are many games I have yet to complete or haven't played that would probably place above AC: i.e., Hellblade, Nier Automata, The Last Guardian, Shadow of the Collosus PS4

Nothing? This gen is awesome.

I should clarify that I only pick three games because they are IMO on a different league, not because they are the only games I enjoyed this gen.

Ohhh I got'cha. I thought you were implying you couldn't even come up with two more games that you thought were great haha.

1. PUBG
2. Titanfall
3. Gears of War 4
4. Forza Horizon 3
5. Halo 5

All because of their multiplayer apart from FH3. FH3 is just an incredible racer, and the setting makes me all warm and fuzzy inside as an Aussie.

This thread is gonna' get locked if you guys just keep making lists with no discussion beyond that. VanCityGamer , I'd suggest expanding on your OP.

1. Bloodborne - My second favorite video game of all time. The atmosphere, gameplay, and lore are second to none.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - The best open world game of all time and the most exciting entry in the Zelda franchise since Ocarina of Time.
3. DOOM - The best entry in the franchise and the best pure action game of this generation. Oh, it's also the best first person shooter ever made.
4. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Among the greatest 2D platformers in history. A huge step up from DKCR and Retro's second best game overall, bested only by Metroid Prime.
5. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. A wonderful return to form for the series. Only REmake and Resident Evil 4 top it.

1. Celeste
2. Forza Horizon 3
3. Life Is Strange
4. Inside
5. Sunset Overdrive

Top 3 are a lock. 4 and 5 can be interchangeable and depending on the month or my mood I would say The Witness or Furi can take their place.

I fully expect these 2018 games to contend for my own top 5:

Forza Horizon Japan (if it exists)
Hellblade (XB1 port)
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Read Dead Redemption 2

5. No Man's Sky - disappointments and all - it is so close to being what it needs to be that I'm hopeful for the next update.
