No mountain seems too high with BotW

Sales_of_console_Zelda_games.png

Huge recovery coming from Skyward Sword.

Zelda BotW sold at least 1.5m copies on WiiU. Receipts from the last quarter presentation :

Sell-through for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in March of last year, has reached 6 million units for the Nintendo Switch version alone, and 7.5 million units total when you include the Wii U version, released at the same time.

A return to the magic that started the series has really been received well... I'm looking forward to E3 2019 when we possibly see the next Zelda game!

yeah, do we have Wii U numbers?

We know it's below Mario Party's 2.10 million since it's not on best sellers.

But John H said it's done 750k in NPD.
Then we have Japan numbers.

I feel like it can't be too much below 2m.

Yea gotta ignore all the re-release sales of N64 OoT (forget the 3DS revamp), otherwise OoT is still #1. But even factoring in all that, it's only a matter of time before BotW surpasses that amount. Wouldn't be surprised if by the end of Switch's lifetime BotW outsells all versions of OoT (N64/3DS) combined.

I don't like BotW at all, but it's cool to see Zelda still being a successful series. I wonder what it will be at by the end of the generation.

bye old style Zelda.

good for the game. nice to see a Zelda game finally get over 10 million units without remasters/re-releases (OoT is still higher if you combine it with OoT3D)

Well deserved. I hope they carry on the strengths and sense of adventure and place that BOTW nailed so astonishingly. It's not without its faults, but its highs were amazing.

Nuts! I wonder where the franchise will go next? There's kinda a divide now between the fan base

I may be bitter about getting a Wii U for Zelda and having to deal with the delays, but damn am I happy for it now. It deserved to do this well.

Lovely. Absolutely love this game. A proper game. Unlike many others.

Well, this news should tell you what the future of the series will look like. After creating the most successful entry in the franchise, they obviously won’t just go back to the old style.

The Zelda fan base has always been divided though, so people are used to it :p

I think there is a vocal minority on forums that dislikes the new direction, but the general public and critics loved it.
I won't lie, I missed having the more focused/themed dungeons in older titles. The Shrines and Divine Beasts didn't really scratch that itch. But even barring that, I'm curious what this means for 2D Zelda as well.

It's a vocal minority honestly.

And seeing how it's over 10 million. This is the right direction to go, and will continue to go from here on. But old school Zelda will probabrly happen at a smaller scale (Link Between World type games)

I agree, they'd be crazy to not go with what BotW has laid out. I always find enjoyment in practically any Zelda, I just hope take next one isn't going to take so long

I mean, they are probably going to put in some more of the old Zelda stuff into the new formula so it shouldn't be that big deal anyway.

Seems premature perhaps? I don't think we have any hard Wii U numbers, other than over 1million. I might be wrong though.

I added the source in the OP, it comes from Nintendo in their presentation for the last quarter :

Sell-through for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in March of last year, has reached 6 million units for the Nintendo Switch version alone, and 7.5 million units total when you include the Wii U version, released at the same time. The game has received accolades from game media and consumers around the world and has won a variety of awards as the best game of 2017.
