I don't want to spoil the fun, but I just bumped into this really cool fake trailer for a non-existent Zatoichi (the blind samurai) film called ZvP.

It was directed/written by Junya Okabe, a veteran VFX guy in the tokusatsu/kaiju film biz. It's less of a trailer and more of a short film given its length, but I thought it was super cool nonetheless.

I highly suggest watching to the very end. Just thought I'd share! I love these kinds of silly mash ups.

Predator as the rival samurai in a Zatoichi film would make sense.

Also this fan short reminds me of the Ninja Scroll live action movie that never was.

What's up with that color grading? I saw a few crane shots so I doubt the camera team lacked equipment for better dynamic range. Someone in post fucked up their shit.

Love the little hair knot the Predator is sporting.

Real talk: Needs a few more Predators for this to be a fair fight. Zatoichi is the man.

Pretty good short, would watch a real version of it. Zatoichi is my jam.

I never knew I needed this until now. In just 7 mins, it's was better than the entirety of the two AVP movies and the recent aliens and predator movies.

Damn that was cool. It really hit on the tropes and tone of a Zatoichi movie (up until the end, obviously, when it goes off the rails into crazy sci-fi), down to the kind-hearted princess and her crew of cliche retainers as the supporting cast.

Honestly liked a lot of the ninja designs, too. The guy with the full face mask except his mouth is uncovered? Creepy.

Haha that was pretty cool!

Makes me miss Zatoichi though :/ He's one of the greatest action heroes ever, he deserves to be brought back with the same level of quality as the old film series.

I need to watch the original films. I’ve only seen Beat Takeshi’s film.
