After 4 years, here are my Top 20 most played (hours included) Nintendo Switch games. What are yours?

I really like that Nintendo Switch has a way to show you what your most played games are and also how many hours you've spent playing each game, but unfortunately those two bits of knowledge are in two separate areas.

If you're curious to find your top 20 and hours spent, you have to go backwards from your 20th most played game (can be found by scrolling to the right on the main game select menu) to first, "playing" a minute of each game...and then going to your user profile which tells you what your last 20 played games were...including how much time you spent on each.

The system does something interesting though, that you'll have to take into consideration if you have multiple accounts. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, and are three titles that for my Nintendo Switch, appear as being played more, but that's because those three are played on the console considerably more, due to others in my house playing them on their own accounts.

It might look different when you go to your own profile. For me, a few were out of order, but I eventually got my True Top 20 and here they are:

405 hours - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

195 hours - Tetris 99

180 hours - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

170 hours - Super Mario Odyssey

125 hours - Animal Crossing: New Horizons

120 hours - Fortnite

105 hours - Mortal Kombat 11

90 hours - Splatoon 2

65 hours - Xenoblade Chronicles 2

60 hours - Fire Emblem: Three Houses

60 hours - Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

55 hours - Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

45 hours - Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers

45 hours - Luigi's Mansion 3

40 hours - Astral Chain

35 hours - DOOM

35 hours - Starlink: Battle for Atlas

30 hours - Hades

25 hours - Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

20 hours - Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

************

I love stats, numbers, sales figures, you name it. I'm the kid that used to call NPD every month and inquire what the latest software abs hardware figures were for the US. I'm the teen that searched with intent, the days of the early internet, to get Famitsu sales data out of Japan. Even in weight lifting and nutrition, would I calculate the percent gains I'm seeing in my strength and how many calories I'm consuming in a day.

Heh, it's just me...until I found so many others out there with a passion for numbers, oftentimes video game related, which I decided to share mine and am looking forward to yours.

It's a little time consuming, but kind of cool (if it's your thing) and could make for a fun conversation.

For what it's worth, I'm 37, married, and have a 6 year old son, as well as a 4 year old daughter. I thought I'd share that as well, since depending on your age and status, I imagine your game time can differ quite a bit. Oh and I also have an Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and gamed regularly on my PS4, Xbox One X (and OG), 3DS, and Wii U...though the latter two, not quite as much from when Nintendo Switch came out.

If you decide to share your own stats, feel free to mention if Nintendo Switch is your only console or not, your age, etc.

Alrighty then, here's to probably seeing some of you with hours in the thousands per game!

Respect on Fire Emblem. I loved that game and hope to one day go through each path. And yeah, it would be nice to see an updated activity log. Currently, if a game isn't one of your last 20 played, you have to start it up to see where your hours are at, for it.

I apparently barely play games compared to you all. My top game is Animal Crossing at 85 hours.

Edit: Even my mom outplays me. She's at 300+ hours for AC, and she's only had her Switch since last November.

How do people put so many hours into games. I'll never understand it, how can you not burn out? 100-200 okay, some games are content rich, but more than that my brain just can't process. Even lengthy games I need to take breaks for months at a time to recharge my interest, otherwise it becomes stale.

130. loved the game, probably can play for a 10 more hours to get the last few minor prophecies.

That's a great amount for Hades. The game earned a 10 from me, last year. Nice job having very little left to get.

Splatoon 2 1200ish
Mario Maker 550ish
Smash 450ish
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 250ish
Animal Crossing 150ish

Wow at those top three! You must be really good at Splatoon 2! Do you make more than play others' levels in Super Mario Maker 2, vice versa, or what?

Pokemon Shield: 535 h
Animal Crossing: 445 h
BotW: 140 h
Dragon Quest 11 S: 120 h
Stardew Valley (80ish h)
Ace Attorney trilogy
Mario Odyssey
MK8D
Pokemon Let's Go Eevee
Smash

Killer Pokémon time! That makes me happy to see, because I hear too often of people that can't get into it and here you have over 500 hours. I'm just under 20 but do like it (Sword) and plan to continue.

I'll do a Top 5 since many others after that aren't very significant lol

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (120h)
2. Stardew Valley (110h)
3. Super Mario Odyssey (80h)
4. Splatoon 2 (75h)
5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (50h)

Mario Kart would be higher / Zelda would be on there if I didn't play a ton of them on Wii U

Yeah, if I added Mario Kart 8 from Wii U to Deluxe, it'd go up quite a bit on my list, too. Cool that you played BotW on Wii U. 👊

Two things that prevent me from making the list 100% accurate are the fact that I don't have some games anymore to check, and that I have owned 2 Switches and a Light. The fact that your playtime isn't cumulative across systems just blows my mind. Where possible, I'll just use save file info or something.

1. Pokémon Shield - 275 hours
2. Fire Emblem Three Houses - 193 hours
3. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 140 hours
4. Tokyo Mirage Sessions - 91 hours
5. Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu - 85 hours
6. Hollow Knight - 60 hours
6. Breath of the Wild - 60 hours
8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 50 hours
8. Smash Ultimate - 50 hours
10. Pokémon Sword - 35 hours
10. Hyrule Warriors DE - 35 hours
10. Bayonetta 2 - 35 hours
10. Super Mario Odyssey - 35 hours
14. Octopath Traveler - 30 hours
14. Wizard of Legend - 30 hours
14. Dead Cells - 30 hours

There are over a dozen at 25 or 20 hours

I can't be bothered doing the steps to find out the values but my #1 (Crypt of the Necrodancer) might be more than the next 19 combined (possibly with the exception of #2 Dead Cells).

(And then you can add the hours I played on PS4 and Steam...)

FE3H is a great game, no need to worry about that!

Personally my top list is basically Smash Ultimate, BotW and FE3H+Xenoblade 2.

That said, I got rookie numbers (around 380 hours) on smash compared to the folks I face at 800 or so.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 110 Hrs
Splatoon 2 - 70 Hrs

Xenoblade 2: Torna TGC - 25 Hrs

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations - 25 Hrs
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 25 Hrs
Astral Chain - 20 Hrs
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition - 20 Hrs
Doom - 20 Hrs

I have a spreadsheet that I keep track of, but it really sucks that the Switch has nowhere as detailed of an activity log compared to the GOAT 3DS. I doubt top 5 will change until Splatoon 3/BOTW2 releases, but I can see FE overtaking Smash if I decide to play the Crimson Flower route someday.

It never ceases to amaze me how long people play for

My hours are weak sauce in comparison

1. Ace Attorney trilogy 80 hours
2. Animal Crossing 75 hours
3. Breath of the Wild 70 hours
4. Fire emblem 60 hours
5. Xenoblade 2 50 hours
6. Divinity Original Sin 2 45 hours
7. Two Point Hospital 25 hours
8. Super Mario Odyssey 20 hours

Everything else hovers around the 5-15 hour mark and aren't really worth mentioning

There's even more Picross if you scroll further down, including Murder by Numbers (of course) and Volexgram (because apparently HAL doesn't want to make Picross 3D Round 3).

My problem is that switching (heh) my primary Switch borked my numbers on the nice easy to read list on the software tab but here it goes. I have to redownload FE Three Houses to get it accurate but here is the list in more or less correct order.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (630 hours)
Pokémon Sword (330 Hours)
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (310 Hours)
Fire Emblem Three Houses (310 hours)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (155 hours)
Minecraft (125 hours)
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (125 hours)
Octopath Traveler (90 hours)
Super Mario Odyssey (75 hours)
Bravely Default II (75 hours)
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (70 hours)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (60 Hours)
Splatoon 2 (45 hours)
Animal Crossing New Horizons (40 Hours)
Hades (30 Hours)
Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (30 Hours)
Fortnite (30 Hours)
Picross S (25 Hours)
Picross Lord of Nazarick (25 Hours)
ARMS (25 Hours)
Gnosia (25 hours)
Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend (25 Hours)

Of note is that I have save files of Pokémon Sword on another switch in excess of 250 hours as well, plus two 300+ hour Shield saves on my second and third Switches. But I don't want to count them. I also think if I checked NES Online app it would be over 25 as well.

Edit 1: Three Houses is 310, though I remembered my final clear save time right at 269:58.
Edit 2: I completely forgot about Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild.
Edit 3: Splatoon 2 was 45 hours.

I suppose I'm pretty good at Splatoon, though it certainly doesn't feel like it sometimes. Mario Maker time is split fairly close to 50/50 making and building, with something like 24 levels published so far
