That puts Aces numbers in perspective. They're really impressive actually.

It's just a little lower than Mario Power Tennis on GCN (which did 139.826 in its first week), it might actually be on par if we add digital though. Not a bad result, but I was expecting more with the budget and marketing muscle that has been pumped into this game (not to mention the Switch Effect). No doubt the legs will be good though.

Digital sales should increase those numbers to something around 140.000

I don't understand why everyone thought there would be a big hardware bump this week.

Is it Minecraft? A game that has been out on Switch for months and is also available on every other platform?

Or Mario Tennis Aces? Were there actually people who were not interested in the other Mario offerings that were waiting for Tennis to jump in?

The octo expansion? I mean I can't imagine that there were many people who didn't already play Splatoon that would see that as a game changer.

Was really expecting a worse debut for NGB, especially after they had a free beta to save people. Game is franchise poison.

Not surprised for Minecraft, really late retail release and while Minecraft is still popular, kids are all about Fortnight now.

What are you talking about? Again, Minecraft sold best on Switch FW in Japan :/

What's the point in already starting an add campaign for KH3 almost a year from launch? Would be different if a console manufacturer started a similar campaign early during a period with a weak lineup to push consoles and to keep awareness even in periods with a weak lineup, but as a 3rd party it's kind of a waste, especially considering actually having games releasing in just a few weeks, receiving minimal resources.

Seems decent for Mario Tennis? Expected more for Minecraft.
No real changes for hardware numbers.

What are you talking about ?

This has been the biggest retail release of Minecraft ever in Japan, and that by a factor of almost 1.5, what were you expecting ?
FW Switch to outsell all the other FW of Minecraft combined ?

Well if I remember right FF XIII also had some ads in japan like year before it released. Seems to be Square-Enix thing.

Nintendo still running things in Japan. Cool for them. Now release a bunch of content patches for Aces so it feels like a full 60 dollar game.

What are the next Switch releases?
I know Octopath is three weeks from now, but what else?

YS 8 next week, together with Death Metal.
Then a week with nothing confirmed yet i think, followed by Octopath, Captain and Shining the week after that.

From now on till mid september Switch has a new Retail release every week(usualy 3 or more) except for the first week of July and the third week of August.

Somewhere. I think.
Minecraft Switch vs Minecraft on all other platforms combined, at launch: 61 764 units vs 67 962 units. I say damn.

With the expected legs... Even with proper third-party support, it would have ended up as one of the best-sellers on Switch anyway.

A year? The game will be released in six months (25/1 in Japan).

I personally thought there was a chance Fortnite could move the needle. I know it released last week (not this past tracked week) but it was kind of a surprise shadow drop, so I thought it might move more consoles in the subsequent weeks after launch, if it was going to move consoles at all. People have said it's getting fairly popular in Japan.

It's very possible that it has affected the baseline. Not something we can ever really prove though.

We're all focused on Switch and we know Gundam Breaker was rejected by consumers but the drop is still pretty big (Famitsu numbers):

  • {27/06/2013} Gundam Breaker [PS3] - 170,020 / 240,321
  • {31/10/2013} Gundam Breaker [PSV] - 32,115 / 89,761 (80,150 retail + 9,611 digital)
  • {18/12/2014} Gundam Breaker 2 [PSV] - 54,608 / 143,804 (121,971 retail + 21,833 digital)
  • {18/12/2014} Gundam Breaker 2 [PS3] - 72,350 / 133,709 (121,748 retail + 11,961 digital)
  • {03/03/2016} Gundam Breaker 3 [PSV] - 72,240 / 135,216 (122,181 retail + 13,035 digital)
  • {03/03/2016} Gundam Breaker 3 [PS4] - 61,601 / 108,152 (90,552 retail + 17,600 digital)

What those numbers suggest to me is that the audience was gradually moving to the handheld environment, and now there's no handheld version for them (or is there, and it's just not charting because the Vita's fallen off a cliff?). For console numbers, it's actually up slightly on 3.

Alright let's not go down that road once again, I feel like we're discussing this way too often. Again, 48k is fine, a 40k baseline without anything much going until November is fine, but it could have been much better, and that's my main issue. But it speaks to a wider issue that I have with Year 2 of the Switch that's been discussed to death.

48k is a very good result for a console at that price in June. Switch will not sell 40k on a weekly basis until November because there are holidays in Japan too that can increase the baseline. Also, a 125k FW game can't be a true system seller, and you know that.

What those numbers suggest to me is that the audience was gradually moving to the handheld environment, and now there's no handheld version for them (or is there, and it's just not charting because the Vita's fallen off a cliff?). For console numbers, it's actually up slightly on 3.

This, and also the game got a really bad WOM.

No vita version, it runs on UE4 so they are not gonna bother porting for it, and it's a terrible game that nobody likes so forget about legs.

Ok. Maybe, just maybe, with the heavy discounts that is already getting. Probably not though.

FIFA18_2018w25.png

( from http://era.burner.camp/#g/8187 )

[NSW] FIFA 18 is definitely one of the more fun Switch titles to track. It has three months to continue surprising us before its successor comes out, right? Frankly, I want to see something bonkers happen like a sudden poke into the top ten after a big Japan team win.

Do people think this is laying the groundwork for FIFA 19 doing better, or will FIFA 18 be remembered as "the good one" with subsequent titles falling short?
