We're doing the Peacock June 2024 Mini-Update since the schedule is out now, and I possibly can't do this over the weekend/next week.
- How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is still being held hostage by US FuboTV. Who knows when this will end.
- Abominable is currently on no service. That said, it didn't go to US Peacock or US Netflix, so someone still has a pre-existing contract on it. Is it Fubo? Please tell me it's not Fubo.
- Secret Life of Pets 2 is still on Fubo. Curse you FuboTV!
And now onto Universal Pictures theatrical 2024 film updates:
- We should be getting the US Peacock Streaming date for Kung Fu Panda 4 in the next few weeks. It should be arriving on the service in July. I see no reason why Peacock is going to break the trend they started.
- Monkey Man I'm still not 100% sure what is going to happen just because of the way Universal Pictures acquired the movie. For those unaware, the movie was supposed to come to US Netflix. But Jordan Peele convinced Universal to bring it to theaters. The bet paid off because they ended up tripling what they bought it for. But because of this, I don't know if it'll go down the usual four month wait period to US Peacock. I'm still going to say it's coming in August to be safe, but it's not 100% out of the question we see it in June. Just as a reminder though, regardless of the release window, we won't know the release date until we're one week away from it. Unless Peacock puts out a press release promoting the release date in advance (as I suspect will happen with Kung Fu Panda 4 in a few weeks)
- I still think Abigail is still an August release. Granted, it did lose money at the box office, but since it's not a Focus Feature film, I don't think this is going to speed up the clock. But hey, I've been wrong about a number of film's streaming debut in the past few weeks. So who knows?
- The Fall Guy unfortunately took a beating in it's opening weekend in theaters. The movie jumped into the Marvel Studios May slot when Deadpool & Wolverine got delayed, but unfortunately it was unable to open anywhere near what that slot usually does. In fact it came under OW weekend estimates. It has thankfully passed production budget, but TBD on if it can pull a Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire or Elemental and at least break even/profit slightly. Still, considering it was supposed to be one of the big films for Universal this summer, I'm expecting it to not show up on streaming until at least September. If we somehow get lucky, maybe late August. But I'm banking on September.
- Universal Pictures main division is opting out of the June Box Office, so we won't be giving any updates on new theatrical films from them next month. Despicable Me 4 and Twisters is right around the corner though. Stay tuned.
Focus Features theatrical 2024 film updates:
- Housekeeping for Beginners should get a release date announcement in the next few weeks. Remember that Universal only gives one week notice on their films coming to the service. Still standing by this will be a June release.
- Back to Black didn't really light US theaters on fire. International mainly saved it. Doesn't really matter though, Focus Features always comes about two months or so after the theatrical release. Unless somehow the release gets huge at the box office, there's no reason to withhold or do an advance press release. Expect this to head to the service in July.
- While Universal Pictures main is sitting out June, Focus Features will be dropping their acquired from Searchlight Pictures film "The Bikeriders" on June 21st. We'll check back in on this film during the next update, as it's unique situation may lead to something different in terms of streaming tracking. Stay tuned!
Lionsgate 2022 Pay 2 Film Slate update:
- Announced today, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" will be making it's US Peacock debut on June 19th. It will be two years and three months (approximately) after it's theatrical debut. A reminder that the reason it took so long was because US Starz gets first dibs for 18 months. Though it appears that there will be a one month period where a film leaves US Starz and doesn't show up on US Peacock. Unless US Peacock had a reason why they decided to withhold it for a month. We'll see if this holds up as other Pay 2 films start making their way to the service.
- A reminder that not all Lionsgate 2022 films will head to US Peacock though. This is because some didn't even release on US Starz, meaning that those Lionsgate films are not on the same distribution path for whatever reason. Yes, 2022 was a weird year for the box office, but Lionsgate especially being weird that year with film releases. I believe the next film that US Peacock will be getting is Fall (if you forget, that's the movie with the main characters stuck on a giant broadcast tower. A sequel is currently in development). Using the two year, three month rule, this movie is estimated to show up on US Peacock in November 2024. So yes, there's going to be a little bit of a wait until the next film. Following that though is Clerks III and Prey for the Devil. 2023 Pay 2 window will have a bigger line-up. Both in amount of films and films more people here care about. But be patient for now.
That's it for the US Peacock June 2024 update. We'll be back sometime after the July schedule gets dropped for the July 2024 mini-update.
