It's frequently used as one. It can be town as a protective role but while I'd expect more than one form of protection in this game, that is a surprise. But I don't like to speculate too much on game design because it's almost always wrong when we do it lol.

Why not? If Sorian flips town, before we rush to kill Terra maybe consider the possibility that he's either Paranoid (for balance, maybe) or Insane (in which case he could still be useful)
