Unsurprisingly, Youngstown has gone downhill hard in the last 20 years. It's not just the local government fucking them over, it's property taxes not paying for as much anymore, and piss poor state government, too. State government cut the local government fund again, and the fire stations basically need to decide between being able to pay for overtime and being able to repair trucks. Injuries are rampant and there isn't enough hiring (because it's not in the budget) so it winds up just costing them more and more as more are forced onto overtime, which led to the closures.
Oh and State government is basically run entirely by Republicans. Like, supermajority in both state houses plus the governorship.
Vote Republican, get third world.
