Why is jumping over a skipping rope 100 times harder than any obstacle course they throw at you

I've tried the scooter trick and the Talkatoo glitch but I can't get either to work

I keep hearing those two ladies yelling HEY HEY HEY, it is killing me that I can't get this damn moon even 9 months later

It was interesting - on my first playthrough I had so much trouble with it. Try it numerous times, jumped in and out of the level to try it at different points of the game and then it was one of my very last moons that I mastered.

And then - on my second playthough - I made an attempt just for fun when entering New Donk City and it immediately clicked and I got it on my very first try. I couldn't stop laughing :D

Can't cut it with either the rope or volleyball to be honest. Stupidly hard. Jump rope in FFIX got me all confident, only for this game to go "Oh, you think you can jump?"

I spent so much time googling ways to cheese that shit.
I tried to replicate that one bug for hours. Scooter didn't help me at all either.
As usual, I got it after giving up for a while, doing something else for a couple of days and then casually giving it another shot.
Don't lose hope!

This is the only moon I have left to get and I've given up. I've tried the glitches and couldn't get them to work.

The first time I did it, I got 83.

The game came out eight months ago and I have no touched that number since.

All these mini game challenges were easy, there is nothing to say other than git gud. Just match the rhythm.

I guess if you have really bad input lag on your TV then it could be an issue.

1-50 is way harder than 51 to 100, that stupid noise it makes when it gets faster is off putting. Once you get past 50 I suggest not looking at the screen, just press the button when you hear hey and don't look at your score

I really didn't like this moon and also the volleyball ones - at least for volleyball you can do the 2P co-op cheese (which I unashamedly did).

For the rope I remember the key for me to getting it was not looking at the TV - I didn't close my eyes (that felt weird somehow), but just looked down away from the screen while pressing jump upon hearing the "hey!". I think the problem was that as it gets really fast it looks like Mario's jump animation is too slow to make it (I think the landing animation is cancelled when you jump again) and it psyched me out every time. Looking away from the TV I did in two attempts.

It was the "hey" that got me through this after about 5 million attempts. Just gotta focus on that and blank everything else out because once you've reached half way the rhythm doesn't change and if you can hit like ten in a row, you can easily hit fifty more. Don't try and hit when she says "hey," just use it to train your finger to press the button with that exact timing.

At some point (probably at 50 points) the speed doesn't change anymore so you literally get into a rhythm and just keep going.

I think the first time I got over 100 I got to 160 or so.

Clip one of the letters outside the boundary, park it in the jump rope then just sit on top.

YouTube how to do it. I gave up trying the proper way.

I wanted to show how hard this challenge was to a friend last year. Usually shit doesn't work at all when you want to show it to someone else, but in this case I managed it on my first try. I tried it a million times before that..

The trick for me was to focus on barely hitting the button at all. A full press is way too much, and a half press is even too much once it speeds up past 50 or so. You need just a slight microtouch of the button.

Skipping rope was my most difficult challenge but I managed to do it pretty easily once I tried it with the scooter.
For the volleyball, stand in the middle and just use Cappy.

I feel you OP. I gave up after a bunch of times. I think I got up to 50 ish jumps. I never cleared the volleyball one either. Got the 848 other moons, or whatever the number was.

Got it first try luckily. Not that beach volleybal thing.... had to use the 2player use cappy thingy for that. That was awful.

Got it second try. It's actually super responsive. Just quick tap. There's a rhythm to it.

I wouldn't put in the first place. 100 perfectly timed button clicks, cool. Imagine a 2D Mario level where there are 100 single tile platforms like that one in SMB 8-1.
The core design tenet of repeating a simple action at an ever-increasing speed has been one Nintendo have executed literally since they began making games.
The whole 50+ Game & Watch line is this without much variance in complexity throughout.
This has been a legitimate game design archetype for over 40 years but now all of a sudden it's "bad design" because you happened to struggle with it? No.

The trick is to not even look at the screen, close your eyes or look away and go by sound
