It's not that hard. You approach the ad campaign from the perspective of "where is Peter?" leading up to the reveal of the reveal trailer immediately after A4.

You could also focus the trailers on Mysterio and what he will do in Spidey's absence.

I'm sure they have a plan.

It's this. You'll get villain specific trailers hiding Spiderman until A4 when we get the first trailer with Spidey in it

I should mention Feige specifically said the A4 marketing wont feature any of the 'dead' heroes

https://screenrant.com/avengers-4-trailers-dead-heroes-characters/

Only the survivors will be in the trailers.

He's talking about the movie itself, not the marketing for it. He means to say the movie Avengers 4 will act as a marketing campaign for Spidey 2. And I partially agree. I mean, it won't be enough but it sure will help grow hype for the Spider-Man sequel.

They should just advertise it like normal seeing as we all expect Peter to come back.

Than they can do a MGS2 twist. Peter remains dead in Avengers 4, the hero of the new Spider-Man movie is Miles.

I don't know why they'd need to do this. We know Tom is in the movie. They don't need to pretend he's still dead. As long as they don't literally show the scene from A4 of him coming back to life it won't ruin anything.

There's no point in trying to trick everyone into thinking Spidey isn't in his own movie when Tom Holland himself announced the title.

Are we forgetting that Ant Man didn't get a trailer until the week after Avengers? Or is it because Spider-Man is an entirely different beast?

With a name like Far From Home, maybe the Infinity Gauntlet didn't destroy half of the galaxy but put them in a different universe depending on the individual? Far From Home = Spiderverse movie ? (Wishful thinking)

It's (in theory) called that because he's in Europe for the summer (well, I thought it was just London, but Wikipedia says Europe so...).

...plus there's already a Spiderverse movie coming out this year.

Everyone knows Spider-Man comes back so they should just advertise the movie as normal. There's nothing to really spoil, just keep from the trailer any shots where Peter talks about the events of Avengers 4. They don't need to act all coy.

Yeah, this is the way to go about it. Just have scenes from act 2 of the movie, basically.

Hmm, I didn't know about the Europe thing.

I honestly think this Spiderman should have been Miles Morales from the moment he was introduced in Civil War. Would have been a great way to introduce the character and give the audience something new instead of another angsty Peter Parker story. Isn't Peters' best friend in these movies, Miles' in the comics?

We also know it'll end with the villain losing after a big set piece in the third act, but you gotta play the game sometimes.

No, it's stupid to play the "OH NO THEY'RE DEAD" card on characters who everyone knows without a shadow of a doubt will be coming back to life.

Nobodies like Scarlet Witch or Vision? Sure. People who clearly want to move on and do other things like Loki? Why not?

You don't kill off Black Panther and freaking Spider-Man and expect people to think they're gonna stay dead. "Spider-Man comes back to life" isn't a spoiler, y'know? The mechanics on how it happens, sure, but not the resurrection itself.

It's mild shocker for the audience.

But it's clearly to set up things for upcoming films.

For you to say it's stupid without seeing the payoff or result might be kind of stupid in a way, no?

Clearly we know they weren't going to kill them forever, but this has been done many times before in other stories, not just comic books.

The interest lies in what is gonna happen to these heroes now, and how are they going to bring these dead heroes back.

Right. The thing I'm saying is that it doesn't make sense for Sony to hamstring its own marketing to preserve a plot un-twist everyone knows is coming.

There's no reason for them to make Spider-Man trailers without Spider-Man in them or pretend Tom isn't in the movie for Marvel's sake. As long as they don't spoil the exact details on how Spidey comes back, there's no real harm done.

He's pretty clearly talking about the marketing.

We know the dead heroes will end up in Avengers 4 in some (limited) capacity after they're revived, likely towards the climax/end of the film.

Lol we'll get Miles eventually.

I've learned never to trust Marvel to "deal with the fallout" well. It's always either an aside or handwaived, like the entire "a lot of ppl thought I was crazy for bringing you to Civil War" offhand comment in Homecoming.

What fallout from Civil War should there have been for Spidey? Lol the entire movie is Tony trying to bring him up slowly as an official Avenger.

Only solo movie that should deal with any fallout should be the one that drops this week.

It's a swerve.

We all expect it to be a superhero-flick with Spidey all alive and swinging.

Turns out it's a 2 hour long drama with Aunt May trying to cope with the death of Peter.
And in the end, he's still dead.

And that should be how they market it.

Then Peter wakes up and realizes everything since the original Iron Man was a dream and the next form of the MCU starts with Spider-Man

I saw a leaked plot point that supposedly in Far From Home...

Peter is mourning the death of his mentor Tony Stark when trouble breaks out again

Which seems like both films will essentially spoil eacher other if that is a big plot point to Far From Home and you see the trailer before Avengers 4

Make the trailer just a shot of Aunt May crying for a full two minutes.

And then...

SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME

Close up shot of Aunt May crying: Oh Peter, I miss you so much.

Camera zooms out, we see she's looking at a computer screen of Peter in Europe.

Peter:Aunt May, it's only been a day.

Cut to Spider-Man Far From Home title card

The announcement will be like "Oh no, the city is under seige, where is Spider-man" then once End Game has opened they'll do a full trailer showing why he's in London who the baddies are, etc.

They'll just make normal movie trailers that kinda suck and give too much away like they always do
They wont even address the elephant in the room because they'll figure everyone paying attention already assumes he's coming back, and the ones that dont pay attention dont care either way
And theyll be right
Then the movie will come out
And it wont matter and these threads will suddenly feel silly

"The Avengers broke up."
"What? Like a boy band?"

I'm interested in how they deal with the CW fallout in Avengers 4, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is the studio that put Hulk in space with the offhand comment that he flew a jet there.

Tony and Steve never even appear in the same place. What fallout should there have been other than the team being split up indirectly playing into Thanos' hands? Should Bruce have sat them both in a room with an alien overlord on his way to Earth to wipe out half of the universe?

Y'all just making shit up lol

I mean, this is why it was stupid of the Russos to do what they did in the first place. These characters literally cannot be dead permanently because it's an idiotic business move to do so. Those characters are so obviously coming back to life there's no point in even pretending they're gone.

Sure, if you can't think more than a movie ahead. Having half the universe disappear is going to have consequences for the characters going forward regardless of whether they manage to revive everyone.

What if the trailer has peter asking May "I don't know what Mr.Stark would have wanted me to do." and he starts crying.

They'll just reveal spider-man comes back to life in the Avengers trailer. So everyone knows it's going to happen and the can start marketing spider-man.

I think people know Spider-Man is still alive. They should advertise it just like they would advertise any other film. They just won't spoil how he was brought back from the dead, but him being alive isn't going to be a secret.

Who care if you know they're coming back? They're dead as far as the other characters are concerned. That's how entertainment works, you watch the stories to see how the characters are affected. Everyone knew the Titanic sinks, it doesn't make the movie stupid and pointless.

Also, most people who watch these movies have never read a comic book in their life and a lot of people were legitimately shocked at what happened in the movie, even if most of the people who frequent this forum were expecting the finger snap.

Yes. Everyone knows he isn't really dead, his return is a foregone conclusion and not a spoiler.

So you still dont think this will be bizarre and unprecedented?

Sorry I should have made my point more clear.

I'm saying it will be weird as hell to go to a theater in April, see a A4 trailer with Tony mourning Peter's death, then 30 seconds later see Peter swing around in the Far From Home trailer.

I'm not taking issue with the wipe. I'm taking issue with the characters the Russos chose to erase to show it.

Without seeing Far From Home or Avengers 4 how can anyone say?

Everyone is going to see Avengers and they'll no doubt have a trailer for spider man attached. Word of mouth will do the rest.
