???
Nintendo's strategies should not be dictated by their month-to-month stock price fluctuations. Letting short term randomness dictate long term strategy is what unsuccessful companies do.
???
Yeah and look at what it did
2016, they nailed it.
2017, they nailed it
2018, like Phendrift said, they nailed it.
Big events are irrelevant to the general populace. Lame video is your subjective view, which you're entitled to, but in the end the information is disseminated the same way to the mass public.
Your biases are showing
I'm surprised people don't realise that Nintendo have never seen E3 as the be-all and end-all
I still remember the E3 where the biggest megatons - Fire Emblem coming to the West and The Wonderful 101 were shown outside of the underwhelming conferences.
When you can drop Directs throughout the year, and events like The Gaming Awards exist, E3 is increasingly irrelevant.
This is the one thing I'm boggled about.I don't understand why they have shunned virtual console (legacy library in general) so much. You would think that's a great tool to fill in gaps during the first two years of its existence.
Thank god for ACA and Zerodiv.
All the time? No, not really. The only one I can think of is metroid prime and maybe fire emblem and yoshi, but those two were delayed. Now compare that to Sony where nearly every announced game is years out
So you don't think that big of a drop in 2 months is a big deal? That extra month made all the difference in the world?I'm not getting defensive at Nintendo. I'm just pointing out that you're shifting the facts and statements of your arguments when it got proven that your statements were erroneous.
2016 & 2017 nailed it when you look at the reactions to what they showed, look at how packed their E3 booth was and various other things. 2018, as was said, had the most discussed elements be from Nintendo's reveals.I'm extremely biased towards nintendo, my favorite of the big 3 but God they are awful at these things. And 2016 nailing it? 2017? How???
And 2018 nailing it you have got to be kidding me. Next to EA that was the worst one this year. If you read the live thread the smash direct for E3 this year was not received well.
You seriously thinking they are killing it?;
When did I say that? I'm just saying your facts and logic was flawed. So you don't think that big of a drop in 2 months is a big deal? That extra month made all the difference in the world?
I'm more incredulous about it than angry. It's great that Nintendo knows whats coming in the future, but everyone else is completely in the dark ... we know like nothing about the online service that launches in a few months, what kind of games are coming, what the future holds for third party support, etc. etc. etc.
It's like being told to come to a wedding but not being told what day it is, where to go, what to wear until like two days before.
You know what I mean, they aren't skipping it but they are skipping the big events and instead doing the lame as all hell videos. They have such a lackluster presence at these events. But then they have the tournaments which are not for me but are cool for those who like it so they see the importance of live events. So... Why the directs Nintendo? Why announce games during the tree house streams?
I feel the main argument here would be that you want to focus more on selling stuff in your existing service games, but Nintendo doesn't actually have a business model in most of those, so there's less incentive to do that than most publishers.
Exactly, so why didn't they talk about their online service launching in 3 months and instead spend 30 minutes going over minute details of a game launching in 6 months? Why not talk about system UX updates? And even passing references to titles for the next year?Try actually considering E3 for what it is, a trade show, not an internet ego competition.
I clarified the drops and you jumped all over me for it. It's really telling that your so desperately trying to cling on to thisWhen did I say that? I'm just saying your facts and logic was flawed.
We don't need to know as hardcore fans. We are the minority. People on the market, the actual consumers, will buy it when the market campaigns begin.
You just want them to do live presentations but that don't matter when it's part of E3 and the videos will be on their channel and the news reports of E3.
And of course, their live presentations are lame and their content is short in E3 to put a live conference too. This is also a consequence of Nintendo direct during the year where they need to hold content to do that.
I'm extremely biased towards nintendo, my favorite of the big 3 but God they are awful at these things. And 2016 nailing it? 2017? How???
And 2018 nailing it you have got to be kidding me. Next to EA that was the worst one this year. If you read the live thread the smash direct for E3 this year was not received well.
You seriously thinking they are killing it?;
The whole "it's just hardcore gamers that care about a platform's future and it's no big deal" is being proven wrong by their stock price sinking the way it has.
Investors don't like flying in the dark either.
At some point it just gets silly. You're not hurting anyone by adding say Ridge Racer and an Animal Crossing announcement to your E3 presser. You don't need to have such a relationship with your own fan base and investors that feels like it's an adversarial one where you're purposefully trying to prevent them from getting excited ever.
Nintendo sweeped game of the show effortlessly in 2016 and 2017. I'd hardly call that a lack of presence.I'm extremely biased towards nintendo, my favorite of the big 3 but God they are awful at these things. And 2016 nailing it? 2017? How???
And 2018 nailing it you have got to be kidding me. Next to EA that was the worst one this year. If you read the live thread the smash direct for E3 this year was not received well.

Nintendo doesn't treat the trade show like a trade show and it's worrying investors full stop.
There was a new thread but mods decided to merge mine into this because uh "reasons"™
The tournaments are live events because they have to be. They can't do a Nintendo Direct style tournament without people knowing the results beforehand and such. Why announce games during the tree house streams?

... IDK, I don't think this is a good comparison from you?
Investors and arm chair analysts in here are as clueleas as ever. Yes Switch isn't doing gangbusters, but its doing solid for a year 2 console. And its gonna hit a YTD equal or above 20M. A 2018 console doing that much is a miracle, lets be real. I feel like investors expected the Switch to be like a mobile phone, 30M YTD with annual iterations and god knows how many whale fishing schemes loaded into Ninty's mobile eneavours. And people need to realize yes its not the gaming fanboy wet dream phantasma we all wanted this year, but Smash ie gearing up to be the next Melee, no car Mario Party is creating a buzz, and Pokemon Go inspired Pokemon(this is till causing multiple aneurysms in my nerve system) is going to dominate the charts. No one is saying it outloud, but it seems like the actual industry is legit shook with Holiday Ninty.
You can do both and the system needs some serious updates. And not going over their online service launching in 3 months was so incredibly stupid.I find it funny how people are being asking why Nintendo focused on their big holiday release at E3 and not their system UI
Investors aren't casual consumers and part of the mass market. They're investors of companies.
http://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?topic=6396.0The fact that you think that a thread on a forum or the internet is proof of something when the market is bigger and we can't prove either side of it is a joke.

New news, new thr... oh I guess not huh.
Nintendo turned up to E3 and, despite trying to pretend they're not in competition with everyone else, soundly lost the trade show contest to their competitors. Not only did they not show enough new games to generate hype for the Switch's next year and beyond, but they also failed to even match what they themselves used to bring to the market in the past and thats whats probably spooked investors more than anything:
- No more Virtual Console. Despite having a well selling new hardware platform, Nintendo has completely failed to bring its back catalogue to it in any meaningful fashion. That's lost revenue right there, all while Neo Geo and Sega seem capable of leveraging their retro titles on the system.
- This also links in with their online service continuing to look undercooked and without detail. Nintendo isn't going to get away with "wait 'til Space World" on the business side of things, especially with a new CEO thats going to need to prove themselves.
- No 'New'. It's too soon for the portable only mini-Switch, but no N64 Mini, no Game Boy Mini, not much of anything. Just a lot of old in the form of "Here's Smash and Pokémon again!". No big new IP like Splatoon or ARMS, just... not much at all. Labo clearly wasn't the new hotness to take the world by storm, no matter how many "wait 'til Space Christmas World" arguments will be made for it.
- Third parties continue to clearly not really care, so that licensing money isn't going to be pouring back in again any time soon. I was honestly quite surprised at now GTA5 port or much of anything. They got Fortnite at the very least, but perhaps a little too late considering mobile and everything else did beforehand.
Going forward Nintendo need to create a software division that does what M2 has done with retro titles, and really just secure their back catalog as playable on their systems. How absurd is it that Mario Galaxy is out on the Shield in China, but not on the Switch? Pretty absurd.
Nintendo treat it exactly like a trade show. They hold closed doors briefings for media and business partners. They have places to try upcoming products. That's what a trade show is, not live presentations.Exactly, so why didn't they talk about their online service launching in 3 months and instead spend 30 minutes going over minute details of a game launching in 6 months? Why not talk about system UX updates? And even passing references to titles for the next year?

So 13th place for smash Bros, that is insanely low.http://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?topic=6396.0
Here is a chart of trailer views which is a more objective way of measuring interest.
Jesus christ. All E3 is to you is a pissing contest isn't it?
Dude, what? The trade shows are to show off your games but also to show what new things are coming and how you are improving things so that consumers are interested in the product, investors are interested in investing and developers are interested in developing on it. Showing how you're fixing the flaws and adding new services is a huge part of a trade show...Also, UX updates etc. are irrelevant to a trade show where they show their upcoming products and belong in Directs etc.

And Pokemon Let's Go ranked at 36th.
And I don't blame them for starting to cool on Nintendo. How the hell can you have confidence in a company when you feel like you are constantly in the dark about their lead product? I'd take my money elsewhere too.
People, gamers and investors alike want to be excited about your product, it's incredibly silly that Nintendo seems to take steps to actively block that from happening. At what point are you shooting yourself in your own foot as a company.
Once in a while you need to foster excitement in your products and especially for a platform based business where you're trying to get people to buy into a platform, you need to get them excited about the future of that platform.

We literally have proof from two of the biggest retailers for video games in this country(Best Buy and GameStop) that Smash Bros Ultimate has huge interest and have a gigantic launch.
Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration.
the smash trailer was 25 minutes long lol.
I know, I was saying that list seems skewed. We literally have proof from two of the biggest retailers for video games in this country(Best Buy and GameStop) that Smash Bros Ultimate has huge interest and have a gigantic launch.
Jeez man
And as a company what can Nintendo do in the short term, realistically? Announcing more games isn't going to raise share prices and keep them their, nor is announcing a cure for cancer. Shareholders bought in with unrealistic expectations and are now selling, its cut and dry. Nintendo has plans for the Switch, they are following them to a tee, and so far its working. Their message was clear, their path was clear, and the sales are paying off for that in many ways. If shares are dropping so much even with all that happening, then shareholders need to stop having such high demands from a company who is clearly satisfied with their results. Running the company's consumer confidence and brand quality into the ground meeting those demands is a much horrible outcome than having a couple of rough months in the stock market because capitalism is broken as fuck thanks to the mobile boom. This is all fine and good, but Nintendo is a publicly-owned corporation. If the stock prices are dropping this much, that is a cause for concern for those putting money into the company, regardless of how gamers feel. I was fine with Nintendo's E3 and am looking forward to the rest of this year's offerings. That doesn't have any effect on the company's financial standing, though.

You don't need to watch all 25 minutes to register as a view though.the smash trailer was 25 minutes long lol.
Ridley was the most tweeted about thing of the entire E3.
Fucking RIDLEY.
Smash will be fine.

Pokémon Let's Go was just the 50 minute Treehouse segment. When you look at its actual trailer it's currently at 12,853,642 views on the English channel and 2,170,087 views on the Japanese channelAnd Pokemon Let's Go ranked at 36th.
Both these games will still do insane numbers this holiday season, as well as push a ton of hardware.

Ok, I'm done.
I wonder if you'll even get one then.I refuse to buy a Switch until I see system wide party chat, and lobbies at least on par with the PlayStation Vita.
Folder support, save backups, etc would definitely have been good things to announce if they are actually comingYou're right, casual consumer #82 really cares that in this new UI update, the top right icon now also has a menu option to allow you to put
