As a Leafs fan it is kinda annoying that Tampa keeps somehow getting these deals done. But in the same breath it is what it is.
I'm grateful my team is on the upswing and confident that we have the pieces to do some damage. Whether we follow through and actually do that is another thing obviously.

It's about time these GMs stopped sitting on their asses. Just imagine how the SCF might have looked if Karlsson was playing for Vegas, but McPhee talked himself into believing that he didn't need him and who knows when their next shot of the Cup is gonna be. This could have been it and they missed their shot because they didn't wanna give up Glass or whatever.

Staying under the cap this season wouldn't be difficult. Dumping Callahan would probably be enough. If they re-sign Karlsson, they would surely have to part ways with a few of their core pieces before next season to fit him and Kucherov.
Random internet speculation for return is Point, Sergachev + 1st. Seems like a lot, but who knows.
They'll need to shed around 4 million in the deal at least to even make it legal, they'll probably want to get rid of more to have wiggle room.
The reports seem plausible given:

So the leafs have really strong offense now while the lightning's defense gets way stronger if karlsson turns out to be useful for the lightning. The lightning might win the cup in the upcoming season.
Yep. I still think the leafs are missing defense or defensively minded forwards. Doesn't mean we aren't contenders or whatever but it definitely bothers me still.
