Did it bother anyone that Walter Goggins' character didn't seem to have a base of operations? He's supposed to be this wealthy bigwig but he's running around with his crew like a couple of lowlife gangsters? Suck a half baked character.

Also he kept referring to "important investors". I thought that was hinting towards something, did I miss something?

He did though. The place they met him at was his base of operations. It's why he was getting so flustered when they were shooting at the chandelier.

She was good. Rather than being a minor support character she was a proper teammate that mattered. It's good that they weren't biased towards either character.
I feel like the women in this film had a strong participation in the plot and they did all this without feeling useless.
Marvel is getting pretty good giving women a chance to shiny without looking forced to the plot.

The more I think about it, the more I love the vibe of the film.

"Science Adventure" is such a good genre and Marvel Studios continues to make sure each Phase 3 film has it's very own distinct feel.

This is what I'm hoping Marvel with do with Fantastic Four once they get the movie rights back.

Jimmy Woo was indeed amazing, I loved his interactions with Scott. "Sooo, you want to go for dinner or something?" "Nahhh"

"Could you knock?"

Lmao.

One thing I think I missed: when Hank and Hope shrink the lab in the woods, they're caught by the FBI. They end up in custody at FB headquarters. But the lab ends up down by some warehouse with Bill and Ghost. When did the lab get separated from FBI / Bill and Ghost steal the lab?

I loved that the film didn't have save the world/universe ramifications -- it was all about different permutations of family. Add the fact that the comedy worked, and it's great entertainment. Sometimes, that's all you need from a film ... Also, they you really want to see Ant-Man and the Wasp together. The film makes you want to see them as a team.

Yes they show Ghost stealing it from the FBI.

Sonny Burch's FBI guy steals it from the van and is putting it in the trunk of his car when ghost knocks him out and steals it. Hope and Hank are shaking their heads in the cop car when they hear he lab is stolen over the radio.

Very fun movie. Wasp was great, hope to see more of her in future films, well after she is saved in A4 anyway.

Do you guys think Jimmy Woo is gonna become a recurring character in the MCU?

Really enjoyed the movie... more Michael Pena is always good. Villain a little undercooked and the ending was hokey...

I enjoyed the movie, especially the vibe between ant man and the wasp, they make such a great team. Overall I think it's a fun movie, but a weak one compared to the rest of the MCU films, specially the villians in this film. I have to admit that the only reason I watched the movie so soon was for the urge to know how it connected to Avengers 4, otherwise I would have waited for a discount to watch it.

Scott should have taken that dinner offer. It's good to have friends in high places to potentially help you out.

An Ant-Man film might be opening over $100m.

So, this movie definitely puts the dominos in motion for a mutant boom, with Janet "evolving" after exposure to the quantum realm.

Seemed like the only viable way for them to set up she's a mutant without actually calling her one. I expect something in Avengers 4 will Effect that change across the planet (maybe the cosmos).

I was thinking that, too. If a massive amount of quantum energy is released in the Realm, it could leak out through time vortex and creating mutants throughout history.

Anyone notice that when Scott, Hank and Hope pull up in the van in front of Ghost's spooky mansion and metal gate-you can hear a scary wolf howl in the distance?

lol

I didn't think the humor worked as well in this one - Michael Pena's ADHD + Truth Serum combo was the highlight of the movie for me. Movie was very very plot driven and though I love Walton Goggins, it felt like his part needed someone really hamming it up to 11.

Same. Girlfriend and I watched it last night and while I enjoyed it, she thought it was underwhelming. Strange considering that she loves the first one so much. I thought it was similar in the sense that they used the same humor from the first one, so I thought this was a good sequel.

Honestly speaking though, anything after Infinity War is gonna look underwhelming, it was such a good movie.

Had a ton of fun watching this last night. The humor was great, and I loved Paul Rudd as usual. Overall a very good side story film.

But damn that credits scene was a fucking ice cold shower. I guess I expected Thanos hit most of them, but everything was just happy and then bam. Wonder if it's up to Capt Marvel to get Lang out of the quantum realm.

Rudd was freaking amazing in that scene.
I was almost expecting him to kiss Hank lmao. Would have died

Agree about the villains. Ghost was slightly interesting, but the gangster guys? Boring. At least it led to the truth serum scenes those were amazing.

I think Ghost's hideout is one of my favorite places in the MCU alongside Harlem's Paradise in Luke Cage and Thanos' farm on Titan in Infinity War. I just love hidden places in the woods, and really liked that shot of them waiting in the van outside the gate/entrance to the house.

When they set up the phasing powers of Ghost by explaining "phasing" to Scott, I was hoping there would be a call back to this scene

It was pretty good, though I think it'll be the first MCU movie since Thor 2 that I don't rewatch in theaters. Also the first time in awhile I felt way too spoiled by trailers

For the longest time, aside from the first Ant Man, I found the humour in each Marvel movies to be a bit of hit and miss. This one is definitely the most consistent when it comes to humour, which I didn't think was possible (to top the first ant-man). The supporting caste really makes the movie for me.

Also, side note (ending spoiler ahead): Is it only my interpretation or did they just set up the possibility time travel (by calling it time "vortex")?

The deaging tech they use is getting way too real. The scene at the start looked 100% real and it's even more impressive because it wasn't a very still performance.

That and the set photos of them filming scenes from previous movies.

I wish Janet would get to keep her cloak, and that they had made her broken wing function as a Quantum Sword. So that every time she would hit somebody they would shrink into the Quantum Realm.

How cool would that have been?

Wait till you see Captain Marvel. They're de-aging Samuel L Jackson and Clark Gregg digitally for the entire movie.

I was thinking about this a lot after leaving the theater. I got spoiled by some stuff through the TV spots, which I expected, but with them seemingly keeping so much of the "story" of the film under wraps, I expected a lot of gags (both in terms of jokes as well as shrinking/growing gimmicks) to be saved for the movie proper, but while there were definitely moments that they saved how it played out for the film (the SF chase was pretty great seeing it all together), we were spoiled for lots of the key moments in just the trailers.

In a way, it's disappointing since MCU films have been pretty great at not spoiling major moments and still being able to sell the film, but I think that if the $130M budget I've heard of being rumored for the film is true (and I think with the reuse of certain sets like Scott's house and Hank's lab makes it seem more believable), then I'm not really mad. That's about what the first film cost and it feels like they were able to make it feel bigger as a sequel while also keeping the scale small and manageable.

I do think that maybe instead of the marketing focusing on a straight-forward story of the villain trying to destroy the world and them having to stop her, they could have leaned into the family aspects of the film, the partnering and chemistry between Scott and Hope, and the quest to save Janet, even if it meant spoiling a bit of the flashback scenes and Quantum Realm stuff (that is already pretty brief to begin with) or spoiling the twist (to some degree) about what is really happening with Ghost and Bill, because while most of all of that stuff is the more low-key stuff that was saved for the film, it's also what made up the core of the story, regardless of how thin some of it was. That way they could have saved a lot of the action as the surprises for the theater, which could have been really great if it wasn't all given away in the trailers.
