It was pretty good, though I think it'll be the first MCU movie since Thor 2 that I don't rewatch in theaters. Also the first time in awhile I felt way too spoiled by trailers
I was thinking about this a lot after leaving the theater. I got spoiled by some stuff through the TV spots, which I expected, but with them seemingly keeping so much of the "story" of the film under wraps, I expected a lot of gags (both in terms of jokes as well as shrinking/growing gimmicks) to be saved for the movie proper, but while there were definitely moments that they saved how it played out for the film (the SF chase was pretty great seeing it all together), we were spoiled for lots of the key moments in just the trailers.
In a way, it's disappointing since MCU films have been pretty great at not spoiling major moments and still being able to sell the film, but I think that if the $130M budget I've heard of being rumored for the film is true (and I think with the reuse of certain sets like Scott's house and Hank's lab makes it seem more believable), then I'm not really mad. That's about what the first film cost and it feels like they were able to make it feel bigger as a sequel while also keeping the scale small and manageable.
I do think that maybe instead of the marketing focusing on a straight-forward story of the villain trying to destroy the world and them having to stop her, they could have leaned into the family aspects of the film, the partnering and chemistry between Scott and Hope, and the quest to save Janet, even if it meant spoiling a bit of the flashback scenes and Quantum Realm stuff (that is already pretty brief to begin with) or spoiling the twist (to some degree) about what is really happening with Ghost and Bill, because while most of all of that stuff is the more low-key stuff that was saved for the film, it's also what made up the core of the story, regardless of how thin some of it was. That way they could have saved a lot of the action as the surprises for the theater, which could have been really great if it wasn't all given away in the trailers.
