Since my Pro died last year I have been without a Pro for a while. Since I have a set budget I need to buy the system and the PS Membership first then 2-3 games tops.

What would you recommend? I have a high end PC and a Xbox One X so 3rd party games are on the "X" or PC. So I am looking for 2-3 exclusives. When I did have my Pro, I did have Horizon Zero Down, but it just did not click with me, so not looking at that one.

Thanks for any input. I am looking to go out and buy it in the next few hours.

God of War is a very obvious answer, arguably the best exclusive on PS4 and it looks amazing on the Pro.
Also Uncharted 4 and Uncharted The Lost Legacy and Shadow of the Colossus.

Since you say you had a Pro before I'm not sure what you've already played on PS4 other than HZD if anything else, but just a few suggestions:

God of War
Ratchet & Clank
Detroit Become Human

Those are all very different games and I thought they were all great.

Thanks for the replies thus far. I think God of War is going to be a definite right now. I am also leaning towards Detroit since it seems to be something completely different. I did have Uncharted 4, but only got about half way through with it and never finished it. I am getting my unit from a mom & pop gaming store and they have used copies of Uncharted 4 for about $10.00 so that may be a no brainer, but will also give me more money to get a 4th game possibly.

Since I have few hours any further suggestions are welcomed. Not looking for Horizon Zero Down or 3rd party games since I get those on the "X" or PC.

Thanks again for the suggestions so far! Seems God of War is the prevailing suggestion so far!

Lost Legacy definitely has a better gameplay to walking ratio than Uncharted 4. Would recommend if you've got an HDR TV especially.

If you liked UC4 but thought it was maybe a bit too long and slow-paced, you'll love The Lost Legacy. It's basically UC4, but condensed, with lots of small but welcome improvements, and with an imo way cooler main protagonist couple. It's also cheap to buy in retail or to download.

God of War, Persona 5, Detroit Become Human and Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy. Ratchet and Clank and Until Dawn would be the next step down from those for me.

God Of War
Detroit: Become Human
Persona 5 - If you're not into JRPGs replace that with
Ratchet and Clank

Shame you couldn't get into UC4 (DLC is also amazing) and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Awesome games right there.

How long is U:LL? Is it short or is it a pretty good length? Would it be better to finish Uncharted 4 first or is this a standalone story?

Any input on Detroit as far as length?

And yes, Saint-14, God of War is at the top of my purchase list right now!

I did love what I played, I just don't remember what happened in my life when I was playing that took me out of it. I was nothing to with the game, I am not sure if what moving or something else that forced me to basically stop playing anything. The one game that just did not click with me was Horizon Zero Down. Looked incredible, but there was something that just did not click. Felt the character seemed a little floaty when walking around etc. Might give it another go though since it is highly recommended.

10-12 hours, if you do all the side objectives a bit longer. It is a standalone story but a couple of characters and some details might be lost on you if you haven't finished 4.

It really depends on how much of it you want to do.
Considering there is many many paths to take in the story you could replay it for quite some time, but first run probably takes around 15 hours.
I can't comment on U:LL yet as it's still on my "to play list" :)

What kind of games do you like?

Ps4 had most of my favorite games this gen, but I wouldn't say that any of them are universally recommendable.

Wipeout Omega Collection is in my opinion the best racing game around. I've been playing Wipeout since Pure came out for PSP in 2005 and there is just no other racer around with so much depth in its driving/flying physics but at the same time such an amazing sense of speed and arcady feeling. Its very hard to master, I don't even know when it clicked for me, but it took several years of me casually playing Pure, Pulse and HD/Fury before I really got the hang of it.
In the Wipeout threads I regularly see people struggling with the campaigns, which basically means that they haven't understood the mechanics yet, because once you do the campaigns are a piece of cake.

Bloodborne is something I would recommend to anyone who likes a challenges and likes to really sink their teeth into a game. But also not for everyone.

God Of War is probably the easiest to recommend. Great combat, great world, great story, great characters. Even if you don't like action adventures or story driven games you'd still might have fun with the combat on higher difficulties.

Detroit Become Human is something easy to recommend. If you haven't played a game like that before, this would be a good one to see if you like them. If you have played one before and hated them, you won't like this either. I've gone into more detail on my thought on Detroit here: https://www.resetera.com/posts/8367526/

Until Dawn is an excellent party game in my opinion. Having people over an playing the game together works very well. Its like watching a movie together, but more interactive. If you can see yourself doing that you might wanna get Until Dawn.

Ratchet & Clank is a very solid platformer. If you're into that you'll like R&C. But its not as good as Nintendos genre defining platformers.

Shadow Of The Colossus is one of the best remakes ever made to one of the best games ever made. But it, too, is very special in tone, setting and gameplay and probably not for everyone.

Uncharted 4 + Lost Legacy even though I don't consider myself a huge Uncharted fan, the series I always enjoyed the games a great deal. They're just so well made, I think its impossible not to have a good time.

Not sure if its still an exclusive, but Guacamelee is an amazing game. 2D platformer brawler. Sublime gameplay, very though.

Oh, I understand. Some gameplay controls can really turn you off a game. Not disputing it's standing as the best game of the generation but that was Witcher 3 for me. I could never got used to the controls and feel of movement on that.

About 7 hours main story which is almost as long as Uncharted 1 if you played that. It's standalone but I still recommend playing UC4 first.

Any input on Detroit as far as length?

11hrs+ for main story. If you're trying to see all the different outcomes though, you'll probably rack up 30hrs

First, thank you for the detailed breakdown of your recommendations. Detroit looks very intriguing to me, but not sure if I have played something like it before. I am going to look up some video's of gameplay in a little bit to get a better understanding of the type of game it is. For Horizon, I felt the controls seemed a little floaty, but I did not play a lot of the game. I kind of gave up a little early on and honestly, maybe I did not give it a fair chance. I believe my mom and pop game store has a used copy relatively cheap, so I may give it another shot if the price is low.

Right now my list looks like this so far:

God of War
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Detroit Become Human

Still looking for suggestions, but those three look to be my first 3 games. But still looking for suggestions. Thanks!

Depends on how much exploring you're willing to do. If you focus on rushing through the main story, I'd expect around 9-10 hours. It took me longer than that to be "done" with the game though. I recommend finishing Uncharted 4 first because the plot would make more sense.

Detroit's length is tricky to answer because this too depends on how much time you spend exploring, and on the story branches you take. The game is designed to be played multiple times since every single decision you make affects what happens next. I'd say that an average playthrough might take around 12 hours.

Thanks! I am the type of gamer that does not like to leave no stone unturned, so I tend to explore and love to see everything a game has to offer...so for me then it would be on the longer side based on the responses. I never been one to rushing through a game, always take my time and explore.

Thanks for the Detroit input. I do love a good looking/story and replay ability. Detroit just seems different than what is out there. What I did notice is that there are a lot of QTE type or prompts. Is the entire game just QTE stuff or is there more too it?

Thing about Detroit is that the the choices you make really are the gameplay. Mechanically there is not much more to it.
In fact, the major criticism I have about the game is that it still attempts to give you mechanical gameplay tasks, which just end up being pointless busywork, like QTEs to wash dishes or clean rooms. Especially early on in the game this happens.
Connors story is a little different in that sense because the detective work you do is actually fun and pays of in the end, Connors part is generally the best part of the game imo.
But what the game really does well is giving you enough information to be able to assess situations to the point where the decisions you make mostly feel like they make sense in the context of how you understood the situation. So it feels like the choices you make matter and reflect the goals you actually had. Makes the story more personal and engaging. Which is a quality of the story/writing that gets too little praise imo, making that whole thing work for all the different paths players can take must have been a lot of work.

Also, I think you should give Horizon another chance. It take some time to get used to the combat, but once you found your style its very fun and fast paced. Don't bother with melee, though.
The world is beautiful and the story is probably the best Sci-Fi story I've seen in video games, although its not paced very well and told in the form of major exposition dumps which happen during quests in linear levels.

I had a Pro before and a PS4 so I did play Bloodborne, Driveclub, The Order 1886 and played Shadow on the previous gen system. But thanks for those suggestions. I should of been more clear that I had a PS4/PRO before and the games I had already played.

But love the suggestions thus far. I am also looking at getting at a later date the Uncharted Collection since I never played through 3 but loved 1 & 2.

I would say God of War, Bloodborne, Persona 5.

There's a lot to pick from. If you like souls like games there's Nioh or Bloodborne.

If you like third person shooters there's the uncharted collection, uncharted 4, and the lost legacy.

If you like turn based jrpg's there's Persona 5.

And then there's action games with rpg elements like the 4 Yakuza games, gravity rush 2, Nier Automata (if you don't have pc/xbox version).

Edit! Forgot about Street fighter V. I just bought the arcade edition a couple days ago and it's amazing.

The Milky Way
God of War and Shadow of the Colossus for AAA. I'd say Nex Machina too but you're probably better getting that on PC. Also you might have forgotten about Wipeout Omega Collection which is pretty awesome and you can get it for peanuts.

I would check the demo before jumping in with Detroit, it's an acquired taste to say the least. If you like rubbing the touchpad to wash dishes and rate story over gameplay then you might have more patience with it than I did! It felt more like a bad parody of QTE heavy games to me.

I would describe it less as QTEs (those really only come up in the occasional action sequence but they are as good implemented as possible), but more akin to clicking on an object to interact with it like classic adventure games. Detroit pretty much is an adventure with a focus on choice and branching paths. I loved it

Persona 5
Uncharted 4
Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2

Story in the second half of GR2 will make much more sense if you've played GR1 first. Just bear in mind that the servers for GR2 will be going down by the 18th, so if you want to try out the treasure hunts, score challenges, photo sharing, or unlocking outfits and furniture tied to said servers, you might want to get on that soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I picked up the Pro with God of War, Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Legacy. Played about 3 hours of GOW and it looks so great. Then played Uncharted and got to chapter 6. The games look fantastic on my new Samsung Q9. Going to download the Detroit demo to see how that is.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
