I'm 29 and mines more gone than yours. I'm still not ready to buzz it all off quite yet. I probably will within a year or 2 though.

I started balding, shaved my head, grew a sick beard and never looked back. Everyone should shave their head at least once.

It helps that I'm freakishly tall though and have a great head shape.

Please cite your scientific evidence for saw palmetto preventing hair loss.

you're wasting your money

Research shows that saw palmetto inhibits testosterone from binding to and stimulating prostate cells, which reduces the multiplication of prostatic cells and prostatic enlargement. Other treatments for BPH, alpha blockers and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors cause sexual dysfunctions themselves — while saw palmetto is a natural supplement that doesn't have a long list of side effects. That makes it one of the best sources to increase testosterone naturally and improve prostate health the natural way.

One 2012 study conducted in Switzerland analyzed 82 patients in an eight-week trial; the patients took one capsule of 320 milligrams saw palmetto extract daily. At the end of the treatment, the International Prostate Symptom Score was reduced from 14.4 ± 4.7 to 6.9 ± 5.2. Investigators' and patients' assessments confirmed the good efficacy, and treatment was very well-tolerated and accepted by the patients.

Look into finasteride and nizoral shampoo OP. Those help prevent further loss, then when you feel like you're in a stable place you could try growth stimulants like minoxidil to see if you can get any regrowth. Prevention is much easier than regrowth, don't squander what cannot be regained.

Embrace it. Shave the hair off your head and own that shit. You're going bald. At least you're still alive to see your hair vanish, more than some can say (or would say if they were still alive.)

It's a harmless supplement to take.

So at the very worst you are spending $30-40 every 3-6 months. At the best you delay or remove chance of hair loss.

Much cheaper then rogain and propecia are.

Yup. I ordered a bottle from Amazon last week thanks to your recommendation in the Skincare thread.

Generic finasteride is pretty cheap and you know what you're getting. With saw palmetto, there's 50 different versions in different concentrations and while there's some signs it can help suppress DHT, it's not as proven a product.

Doesn't finasteride have a symptom of impotence?

I rather take a harmless supplement and keep my dick up :) Maybe if I was actually losing my hair instead of being preventative I may be tempted to then take finasteride but that symptom list sounds awful.

Not sure why people are saying you have a few years left when you can maintain what you have by starting a hair loss regimen. Been using finasteride, Rogaine and Nizoral shampoo for years with no side-effects.

My only regret is not starting sooner when I first noticed my hair thinning.

This is like saying "doesn't aspirin kill babies?" Everything has a side effect, including saw palmetto. If you're inhibiting DHT by whatever means you use to get there, there can be sexual side effects. It's all pretty limited though.

Become a hat man. Its a timeconsuming and costly role but its high risk high reward

Me myself I constantly twist and pull out my hair as a nervous tick and I think its hurting my hairline at least the corners

One of my closest friends since high school was already balding pretty badly by that time. He let me make a jab about it as long as I promised to never do it again.

Lesson here is, when it comes to hair, some guys will be dealt a crappier hand than you.

I'm about to be 23 and it looks like my hairline has started receding. Talked to my GP and they said there's nothing I can do besides throw my money at snake oil. I love my hair and I don't want to let go, seeing some discussion on medications in here. What are the ones to have a look at? Preferably ones with studies behind them, I'm feeling a glimmer of hope haha

My hairline started vanishing at 26. Stop complaining man. I hope you got a nice enough headshape.

Yeah fella, I wish I had a head shaped like that. Even as a non-balder I would love to rock the shaved head look but I look like one of the fucking coneheads :(

Does rogaine work to prevent future hair loss?

No, it is strictly a growth stimulant. Only anti-androgens, specifically DHT inhibitors, are used for prevention. There's a bit of confusion as to why Nizoral shampoo helps when included in people's routines because the exact reason is not clear but the best guess is that it stops inflammation of the follicle on the scalp and/or the main ingredient (ketoconazole) has mild anti-androgenic effects. Either way, it helps promote a healthy scalp and removes dandruff since that is what it's originally for.

My hairlline isn't receding, but my hair has definitely started getting thin the last few years. I used to have a really good, thick head of hair. I used to have trouble getting a comb through it. Lately though, I see more of my scalp every time I look in the mirror.

OP it'll be fine, don't hang onto it too long. I'm sure you're a great dude and as long as that shines through nobody will give a second thought to your lack of hair. It's all part of the unique story of you.

Finasteride's symptoms are only noticed in some men. Many others have taken it without having sexual dysfunction. It's a small risk, but worthwhile if it means saving your hair I think.

Finasteride is rock-solid proven to work, and it's the only one that you really need. You can also get PRP injections (stem cell jazz with no possibility of side effects) and/or slap some Rogaine on, as well.

Anything else is junk.

Finasteride, if that doesn't work, you can try Dutasteride.

Potential side-effects for those drugs are:

Erecticle dysfunction
Testicular pain
Gynecomastia
Depression

The ladies will be so impressed by your luxurious head of hair that they won't notice that you cannot have sex with them.

Your hair line looks fine. It's a normal hair line for a 30 something to be honest.

Receding hairline is a blessing compared to a balding spot in the center of your head even if the later is actually hide-able, a receding hairline looks decent, a balding spot never does.

Glad I never had good hair to begin with so the thinning I've had throughout my 20s hasn't been that much of a shock. Currently just buzz on a 1 every week and might eventually bic it. Definitely have no interest in rolling the dice with side effects.

Op, try Nioxin Shampoo and conditioner. It almost Immediately stopped my hair from falling off and combining it with Minoxidil I've managed to regrow almost all of my lost hair.

Granted this is only my personal experience but I got excellent results with these products.

I'm 47 and being bald is the least of my worries. Wait till random parts of your body start failing for no reason like my knees this morning.

Bald is beautiful but bum knees out of nowhere is pure bullshit.
