I utterly disliked this game but it's cool that a dedicated team is modding this game to improve performance and resolution. Kinda cool in a way to keep games (even if shitty) remembered this way.

I never got around to playing Homecoming on the PC, but this is definitely on my radar if I ever find the time to.

I'm a bit surprised at the responses, I had always thaught that this was one of the better-received later Silent Hill games?

I finished this on 360 and found it quite average overall. I then started Downpour and my opinion changed. Homecoming is now up there as one of my favs.

The game is good for the first 2 thirds..It completely falls apart tonally near the end.

The actual ending is a mess.

The beginning of the game is amazing.

Game has some incredible death animations at least, there's that hammerhead shark looking enemy that slices you in two with its head and then holds both pieces as you slowly die.

Very Silent Hill lol

Visible damage in combat was neat too.

It appears I have the game in my Steam library and I can't even remember when/why I bought it lol..anyway,that's a nice surprise I guess but I still haven't played any SH game and I heard this one is pretty bad..is it worth playing with this mod?

I liked Homecoming a lot, there were a oot of neat little details, I remember looking at a trivia FAQ and found out a lot of lore I missed, shame it was universally hated.

I almost bought this doing the steam sale but I read how shit the port was. I enjoyed it on Xbox 360.

Whaaaaat, naw. Homecoming is pretty much among the most hated along with completely out there games like Book of Memories. Origin & Downfall certainly aren't perfect (or even great...or, good, in most cases) but they are in a whole other league than this:
latest

SH: Homecoming is a legit embarassement and shows a complete and utter disregard for absolutely everything the Series stands for.

If you fail that scene the drill gets shoved into your eye Dead Space 2 style, so over the top

I remember enjoying it on its own merits but just felt like the antithesis of everything the series stood for, especially the reuse of Pyramid Head.

I do have the game, but I never actually tried it out. I remember I was bummed because my German version is so heavily censored, and I didn't play it because of that. The UK and US console versions are actually confiscated over here, but maybe I'll snag a copy off ebay UK, or get a foreign Steam and activate it via VPN. I do want to check this game out.

CTRL+F "invert"

How has this still not been fixed?

EDIT: I know you can fix it through any number of means, but still...pretty silly.

Even if they only managed to fix the boss fight issue preventing players from continuing in the game, that would already be enough.
Good on them for their hard work.

Cool that they fixed the multitude of technical issues, but this game doesn't deserve the Silent Hill name at all. It's fucking gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbbbbbbbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggggeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Well I loved and still like Homecoming, but I didn't played too much of the previous entries in the series, because they had shit PC ports and shit combat - or maybe I was shit at it, but that doesn't matter, because if the combat makes me hate a game that I would like to play more, I just can't play it more.. and SH1 isn't even on PC, as far as I know.. Homecoming atleast has good combat - in fact, I really liked it - and animations (played on PC with M+K, without a problem and with minimal bugs, no crash), interesting story and enemies, great boss battles (man, Scarlet, one of my favorite moments in all the videogames that I have played), great music and atmosphere, good writing for the most part, good level design - again, for the most part - and I just really liked it.. yeah, I know why people who were fans of the previous SH games don't like Homecoming, but for me it is one of the best horror games that I have ever played

P.S. the fact that the game has some moments very closely resembling Jacob's Ladder is in my opinion a huge +

That's like saying The Naked Mile is the best of the American Pie spinoffs

And I think most would put Origins or even Downpour over it

Downpour might have been a cruddy mess but it at least had some interesting ideas
Yeah. That said, the highs are pretty high, if spaced out. Hell descent, and the dark world version of his childhood home were great if you ask me. Everything else, not so much.

Origins and Downpour are both definitely better.

Holy crap why is SH Homecoming still $39.99 on Steam ..

edit: Also a damn shame Downpour never got a PC release for future safe keeping. The PS3/360 versions have *not* aged well at all.

Going to have to agree with you here!

I mean, I actually think it's better than Origins and I didn't play Downpour. There's much worse games to play for sure- but that final act
cultist bullshit
is really absolutely terribly awful beyond comprehension. As is a decent amount of the first section.

Someone should really have been paying attention to the graphics more.

I can respect the work and dedication, but good lord, this is the last game that deserves it. Homecoming is truly awful, and not just as a Silent Hill title. It's a complete garbage failure of an action-horror game.

That's funny. Since for me it's the reverse. Wasn't big on Homecoming, but I LOVED Downpour.

Yeah, Downpour was a really janky, poorly performing game .. but damn if it wasn't a really charming game. Probably the closest modern-3D recreation of the feeling of exploring an empty town since the original SH or SH2.

Had to do a double take at the thread title.

That's cool. Homecoming was alright by me.

Downpour is a terrible, badly designed game, and the more I think about it, the less respect I have for its designers. But Homecoming is definitely worse. Downpour at least had a solid blueprint and it did a few horror things reasonably well, like the movie projection sidequest. Homecoming, meanwhile, is an aggressive failure of horror and action from beginning to end.

Downpour is a mediocre game that could have been decent with more experience devs/a better director.

Homecoming is like absolute shitto. Especially the game's balance. It's also a Silent Hill game in which you fight human enemies like you are in fucking CoD.

I thought it was an ok game, but a mediocre Silent Hill game. You couldn't invert the camera though, which really bothered me. Steam Controller will solve this issue, might grab it in a sale.

Oof, Homecoming is awful. The combat...

Downpour, on the other hand, is one of my favourite Silent Hills. Yes, it's a bit broken, but I really enjoy the story and side quests. I also get a kick out of the fact you don't ever have to fight a single enemy and there's even an achievement for it.

I don't get the love for Hell Descent- its just a linear trek with the visuals of the movie lol

The Scarlet fight WAS one of the coolest things a SH game did with the soundtrack though, I will give it credit for that

Huh, neat. I actually enjoyed Homecoming more than most, but the biggest problem was not being able to change the camera to inverted. If this addresses that then I may have to try it out in PC.

I really enjoyed Homecoming to be honest, it's probably my third favourite after Silent Hill 1 and 2. But that's with a caveat I guess as the last third is pretty wank. SH 1 and 2 are the only ones I consider stone cold classics, didn't like 3, hated 4 (it's by far the worst of the series for me) and thought Origins was bland as fuck and Shattered Memories was just a complete misfire. Never tried Downpour but wanted to.

Might pick up the PC version dirt cheap sometime just to have another crack at it with this mod.
