Change of pace, what are you guys hoping to see in regards to new characters?

Personally, I'd love to see a character wielding a scimitar. Possibly a Persian character!

A character without weapon, just a huge shield. Bashing fools and protecting himself whenever needed.

What about a Dark Souls guest who, against all expectations, uses the little-known Dual Shield style?

I mean, if Captain America can fight with one shield and be cool, two shields has to be like... double cool.

Actual longsword and shield

Spear (Chinese or African could be cool, I guess Chinese could overlap with Kilik too much)

Jo (technically it didn't exist in this game's time period yet though)

Are those obsidian blades? Sick.

I'd like a non-acrobatic spear fighter. Hilde is kiiinda like that but then she has the shortsword too and i never got on well with her charges. I want just the spear.
An ottoman character with like a yataghan or something would be neat.

I think an unarmed or caestus character could be cool too, if it's original and not just a mishima from Tekken.

The only good suggestion so far.

He can work as a stance character, too. Offense state, shield split in two and gives him more agility. Defense state, shield in one piece and be more tanky.

I drew a thing!! Enjoy (I love Talim, I'd love to draw a few more 'best fighterz' too)

Wow, that's really good, very cool.

Finally got around to sitting down and watching some videos of the E3 build, and they reminded me just how good this game looks like it's going to be. The character specific soul charge/meter properties are so cool, I love that they're being so creative. The graphics are great too, I have no idea what people are complaining about there.

I was excited about this game but the slow leak of information and the lack of anything that feels "fresh" is a bit depressing. Looks like SC5 graphics with SC1 characters. Just a bit..meh?

Before I forget (or it passes by), this really is great! :) Love the varied line weights for depth, and you captured her baby-fat, youthful face well. Looks like the kind of thing that should be featured in the game's gallery from a guest artist.

I really don't mind the older cast so far, because they seem to be using their time to refine things nicely. I love the timestop moves for Zasalamel, "WIND!"... with actual wind effects with Talim, the horse that pops up in Nightmare's ultimate, the idea of making soul charge more than "those buttons I press by mistake", and into a tool that gives character new / EX moves, and all the little flourishes like rival banter between characters, and the special victory changes for finishing a match with a dramatic super finish.

Alongside the "We're actually trying!" story mode, with solid artist providing the 2D cinematic stuff, multiple other types of story telling, and promised paths for each character in addition to the main tale, it at least feels like they're focusing on things that actually have some value.

I do find modern Bamco games to be a bit frustrating, in the fact that a character feels great if they make it... but if they don't, they seem to fail at giving satisfying replacements.

Where's my Michelle or Wang Jinrei in T7? Or Lei Wulong? It's like they're totally forgetting certain fans until the next game, rather than making sure each product gives everyone something to re-connect with. And the T7 DLC seems like it's servicing OTHER fans, trying to expand the game (Admittedly, I don't mind AT ALL that the game got Geese, though... and that other fantasy RPG guy), rather than giving series mainstays what they want, at the same time.

And it just feels like... why? Even if they have to do things like exclude the character from Create-A-Costume stuff, or keep them from appearing in story modes, shouldn't they still be able to give a satisfying playable free character every once in a while, like the DLC updates on TTT2?

It really makes me wish we had a better version of SCIII as the basis for modern SCs. The CAS movesets that could be used to create series bonus Mainstays (like Revenant and the armies of Lizardmen) or as a basis for forgotten participants (LI LONG!) was nice. Even using Story related characters to get some of those bonus movesets into "official" play, like the shop maids using various styles. It's still THAT game (And Tobal 2) I think back to, when I think about how FG's should be filled with fun bonus content.

I don't mind the older cast either, but it just feels like the hype for this games dies really fast. They've been announcing one character at a time for the most part, and when that character is a series mainstay that's expected to be included, there hype just doesn't carry very far.

I'm guessing the SC5 characters (if any are coming) will be DLC, so I get not announcing them yet. What I don't get is why Geralt was announced so early. Put Talim where Geralt was and announce Geralt at an E3 press conference (in the Story Mode trailer). Now you've got big E3 news to go along with the release date and Story Mode stuff.

I'm guessing the other new character is coming at Evo, Gamescom or TGS, so that's good. Maybe give us some character breakdowns between announcements so we don't go so long without SC news? I think it's very telling when this thread goes dead for a week. Not saying that Resetera is the bar for gauging interest, but it's still telling.

This game is such a roller coaster ride for me. The game looked almost impressive during the Talim trailer. I saw the Kayane vs. Keev E3 build set and the stage they were playing on made the overall game look so drab and stillborn.

It would be okay if the particle effects illuminated the environment, but of course, there's no real illumination tech to add some life or dynamism to the scenery. As far as I could tell, at least. IIRC, the older games' weapon effects and hit sparks casted light on the characters at the very least.

Ugh.

Great work! I especially like the composition of the illustration.

I agree. The artwork in general has been disappointing so far. Especially after IV and V artworks looked amazing.
I think most of them look pretty good. My only complaint is that some of the faces seem a bit weird on some of them (like Siegfried and Xianghua).

My favourite is one of the first they unveiled, which is Sophitia's: https://s3-allgamesdelta.s-ul.eu/65T85IsZ - I think the pose and perspective look really cool in her illustration.

It would definitely help to have something older, and something new, side by side. But I don't feel the hype being too different than most fighters as of later, personally. Disillusioned with the current ways, people pick apart the weaknesses. The companies generally don't help, because they don't offer enough high level play, or a roadmap of info, to keep people hooked. BBCTB didn't feel like it had a good amount of release hype, and it only seems to have caught it's position with things, once people got to see what it was really about. The "Sprite Rip fighter that cost too much" mentality held through much of it's pre-release life.

I'm guessing the SC5 characters (if any are coming) will be DLC, so I get not announcing them yet. What I don't get is why Geralt was announced so early. Still surprising me how much I want Algol back, haha.

I really wish Bamco would be a bit more... forthcoming with it's DLC. Not just to tell what's in it, but just have a more solid idea of when, and why. And maybe just.. offer more? I don't mind if we need DLC to get a modern game up to a past releases standards. But even after DLC, they're still seriously lagging behind, and that's just... weird. These are the guys who had Eliza stuck into Tekken through a fan contest. And had guest costumes designs from a variety of artist in each Tekken, Unique characters per console, and multiple Star Wars characters in one fighter. They've got lots of ideas, and various ways to implement them. So why do they feel as if they're learning from scratch again?

And I guess Geralt was a box art decision at this point. Not like Talim or Zasa are as important, it seems! He's front-and-center, and I guess they figured he'd maintain excitement for longer.

I do appreciate how much hands-on they've offered of this game, at least. Taking the game to Max's, letting Kayane post direct feed, having it at larger tourneys with streams... that side of things has been better than I expected, actually. But you'd think they'd want to control the temperament of information, by injecting their own pre-made stuff more. Character lore videos, move set retrospectives, discussions with the artist, weekly breakdowns of the modes on offer, etc, etc...

This game is such a roller coaster ride for me. The game looked almost impressive during the Talim trailer. I saw the Kayane vs. Keev E3 build set and the stage they were playing on made the overall game look so drab and stillborn.

I haven't gotten to the video in question, but I did watch the one where she fought GROH with Geralt. Definitely don't find it drab. I have to make a point to watch each set she's uploaded. Really enjoyed how the music came across, and I got a lot more appreciation of GROH from watching that one vid.

I actually find the overall color grading of the stages to be somewhat striking in this game, actually. But not having hit impacts and stuff light up the characters? I wonder if that's a design decision (since offering any new lights into such specifically-lit scenes could cause unfavorable clashes), or even something that's just out of these builds?

I haven't paid much attention to that forest stage's transition, but with many other stages going from early day to late evening, maybe it has some liveliness to show, yet.

Do we know anything about the single player mode story? Will it be any good? I was pretty disappointed by the last games'.

Awesome, that looks pretty cool. The restrictions remind of me of Weapon Master Mode from SC2.

What did you want from story mode to be good? Your question is very vague.

For example, do you have a problem with its writing quality? Not enough variety (only fights vs CPU)?
Decent story, quality cutscenes, a decent length. The high water mark of SP fighting modes for me would be like the recent Mortal Kombat/Injustice games. The link SAB-CA posted makes me think I'll be happy with it.

I really love your art as always! You're so good. Talim is my favourite character in this game as you can see from my posts and avatar :)

You guuuuyssss <333 and thank you

That's great! If you draw Siegfried I might steal him for my next avatar since the official art was kind of poor for him.

Tempting :O If I got time, I've always thought he was a perfect guy too (that hair).
I also do accept commissions ;P

Kind of wish that info didn't come out until October. Now Namco has time to patch that out before release. I can't imagine they want BCD to be that powerful. We'll see though I guess.
