Honestly I think your estimation is more accurate. Finishing the game took me 35 however there's a lot of side quests I could have done.
I dipped into Refrain mode but it's basically just a New Game Plus that you can start whenever you want
Dont think it will, the demo and closeness to Octopath and Ys will hurt it.
That is true but the switch audience has been surprising, at least in the west
I actually pre-ordered this after watching a stream. I have to wait for the Amazon package later today, but I'm looking forward to it.
The music and the drop-dead gorgeous character designs got me. It looks and feels like anime/jrpg comfort food, which is just what I need right now.
Also the nail-biting wait for Octopath just has me on JRPG hype right now, and I need the distraction, even just for the few short days left until that comes out.
I'm excited for Refrain.

If you play Refrain after Original mode, will things carry over like a NG+ or will you have to start from scratch?
The game look really good for my taste, but i'm not sure about few thing, Some review said Dragon thing was OP, but at same time it can make thing way harder if thing don't go well. And some review mention the insane grind and difficulty spike for the last 3 chapters, make thing pretty unbalance. I like challenging JRPG, but random difficulty spike are another thing.
I wouldn't be surprised if it sells better on Switch than on other consoles, the system has been pretty welcoming for JRPGs. Sure, it won't sell as much as Octopath Traveler or Ys VIII but it should do decently enough.
Totally forgot this was coming out and that I had it pre ordered for PS4. I will probably go ahead and play it before I play Octopath otherwise I might never play it.
Same. This is not Shining, it's some other crap with its name slapped on. Never got a Shining game past SF3.
If it's not done by Camelot Software Planning, it's not Shining.
When you go Dragon, it continually consumes your MP. If you try to act when your MP is too low, the Dragon goes berserk and attacks allies and enemies indiscriminately. The dragon is very powerful, so that's why it's OP if you use it intelligently, but if you are careless it can go very poorly very quickly. I haven't played the game, so I can't comment on whether they got the feel for this right, but it sounds like it could be cool if implemented correctly.
This is the first I'm hearing of crazy late-game difficulty spikes though, not sure what to make of that.
I'm glad to see an OT for this. Loved the demo and will be getting it later this year, maybe during the steam winter sale. I've got too much else to play right now that I can't justify dropping $40 on it, especially when some of those other games are pretty similar to this one. Everyone else is excited about Octopath but this is the one for me.

so.... god damn it. pre-ordered it last night for the $5 discount out Switch. Only to go to check it out this morning and it hadn't unlocked on eShop yet... grr.. Still starting out in Chapter 2 on Ys though and still only in chapter 2 on NG+ XC2 (though really getting through Xeno NG+ should be like 5-6 hours tops.)

Just finished the demo on the 1X and I enjoyed it...lots of interruptions in the action with little cutscenes and all(although a lot was tutorials)but they are well done,the UI and graphics are nice and clean for the genre...I wanted the demo to keep going lol,so thats a good sign.I will probably get this at some point,it was a nice little demo.
yeah I only grabbed it because I figured $5 was probably within $10-15 of the best discount we'll see from it any time soon (not including eShop 5% on the higher price)... but I'll probably ditch Ys and this for Octopath come Friday.

Man fuck Best buy. Had to pick it up at Gamestop because they didn't have my preorder. The conversation:
"HI I'd like to pick this preorder up."
"We can't, it's not out yet."
"Yes it is, the global release was today."
"We can't sell it until friday. Maybe other stores are selling it early?"
"No, you're selling it late."
To be fair, I was clear to state that I understand it wasn't the clerks fault and that it was best buy's crappy computers, but still. What a world when Gamestop is now more reliable than Best buy.

Weird, my Best Buy had it ready for pick up like normal today. Oh wait did you have it on Switch? Because their website does show the Switch version for Friday where the Xbox/PS4 are today.
just started the demo today and I am really enjoying it so far. I might end up with this instead of Octopath.
Are there any missable for the platinum trophy or can everything be done in one playthrough without worrying about following guides.

Yup, switch. I assume some data entry guy assumed "Nintendo right? Must be friday."
I read that you need to play on Refrain mode for the platinum trophy, but none of them are missable if you do.

Great OP, been playing it on the X and IQ wise it looks pretty clean.
From what I've played there's a lot of clear limitations in terms of scope which is a bit of a bummer but it's still enjoyable for what it is.
Given it's amongst the first wave of JRPG's to hit Xbox this summer it does fill that niche decently for Xbox owners wanting these types of games on the console.

I got my Switch version from Amazon today without any issue.
Probably because Switch games generally release on Fridays and there's just some confusion.
